1 I osafat a adormit cu părinţii săi, şi a fost îngropat cu părinţii săi în cetatea lui David. Şi, în locul lui, a domnit fiul său Ioram.

And Jehoshaphat rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. Then Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

2 I oram avea ca fraţi, fii ai lui Iosafat, pe: Azaria, Iehiel, Zaharia, Azaria, Micael şi Şefatia, toţi fii ai lui Iosafat, împăratul lui Israel.

He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azaryahu, Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

3 T atăl lor le dăduse daruri însemnate în argint, în aur şi în lucruri scumpe, împreună cu cetăţi întărite în Iuda; dar împărăţia a lăsat -o lui Ioram, pentrucă el era întîiul născut.

Their father gave them great gifts of silver and gold and precious things, with fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.

4 C înd a luat Ioram în stăpînire împărăţia tatălui său, şi cînd s'a întărit, a omorît cu sabia pe toţi fraţii săi şi pe vreo cîţiva din capii lui Israel.

Now when Jehoram was established over the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself and killed all his brothers with the sword, and also others of the princes of Israel.

5 I oram avea treizeci şi doi de ani cînd a ajuns împărat, şi a domnit opt ani la Ierusalim.

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6 E l a umblat în calea împăraţilor lui Israel, cum făcuse casa lui Ahab, căci avea de nevastă pe o fată a lui Ahab, şi a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului.

And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for he had the daughter of Ahab as a wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

7 D ar Domnul n'a voit să peardă casa lui David, din pricina legămîntului pe care -l făcuse cu David, şi din pricina făgăduinţei pe care o făcuse că îi va da totdeauna o lumină, lui şi fiilor lui.

Yet the Lord would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that He had made with David, and since He had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons forever.

8 P e vremea sa, Edom s'a răsculat împotriva stăpînirii lui Iuda, şi şi -a pus un împărat.

In his days Edom revolted against Judah’s authority, and made a king over themselves.

9 I oram a pornit cu căpeteniile şi cu toate carăle sale. Sculîndu-se noaptea, a bătut pe Edomiţi, cari -l înconjurau şi pe căpeteniile carălor lor.

So Jehoram went out with his officers, and all his chariots with him. And he rose by night and attacked the Edomites who had surrounded him and the captains of the chariots.

10 R ăscoala lui Edom împotriva stăpînirii lui Iuda a ţinut pînă în ziua de azi. În acelaş timp s'a răsculat şi Libna împotriva stăpînirii lui, pentrucă părăsise pe Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor săi.

Thus Edom has been in revolt against Judah’s authority to this day. At that time Libnah revolted against his rule, because he had forsaken the Lord God of his fathers.

11 I oram a făcut chiar înălţimi în munţii lui Iuda. A tîrît pe locuitorii Ierusalimului la curvie, şi a amăgit pe Iuda.

Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit harlotry, and led Judah astray.

12 I -a venit o scrisoare dela proorocul Ilie, care zicea:,, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul tatălui tău David:,, Pentrucă n'ai umblat în căile tatălui tău Iosafat, şi în căile lui Asa, împăratul lui Iuda,

And a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus says the Lord God of your father David: Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, or in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

13 c i ai umblat în calea împăraţilor lui Israel; pentrucă ai tîrît la curvie pe Iuda şi locuitorii Ierusalimului, cum a făcut casa lui Ahab faţă de Israel: şi pentrucă ai omorît pe fraţii tăi, cari erau mai buni decît tine, şi cari făceau parte din însăş casa tatălui tău; -

but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot like the harlotry of the house of Ahab, and also have killed your brothers, those of your father’s household, who were better than yourself,

14 i ată, Domnul va lovi cu o mare urgie pe poporul tău, pe fiii tăi, pe nevestele tale, şi tot ce este al tău.

behold, the Lord will strike your people with a serious affliction—your children, your wives, and all your possessions;

15 I ar pe tine, te va lovi cu o boală grea, cu o boală de măruntaie, care se va îngreuia din zi în zi pînă cînd îţi vor ieşi măruntaiele din pricina tăriei bolii.``

and you will become very sick with a disease of your intestines, until your intestines come out by reason of the sickness, day by day.

16 Ş i Domnul a aţîţat împotriva lui Ioram duhul Filistenilor şi al Arabilor, cari sînt în vecinătatea Etiopienilor.

Moreover the Lord stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and the Arabians who were near the Ethiopians.

17 S 'au suit împotriva lui Iuda, au năvălit în el, au jăfuit toate bogăţiile cari se aflau în casa împăratului, şi i-au luat fiii şi nevestele, aşa încît nu i -a mai rămas alt fiu decît Ioahaz1, cel mai tînăr dintre fiii săi.

And they came up into Judah and invaded it, and carried away all the possessions that were found in the king’s house, and also his sons and his wives, so that there was not a son left to him except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

18 D upă toate acestea, Domnul l -a lovit cu o boală de măruntaie, care era fără leac.

After all this the Lord struck him in his intestines with an incurable disease.

19 E a s'a îngreuiat din zi în zi, şi pela sfîrşitul anului al doilea i-au ieşit lui Ioram măruntaiele din pricina tăriei bolii. A murit în dureri grele. Şi poporul lui n'a ars tămîie în cinstea lui, cum făcuse pentru părinţii lui.

Then it happened in the course of time, after the end of two years, that his intestines came out because of his sickness; so he died in severe pain. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning for his fathers.

20 A vea treizeci şi doi de ani cînd a ajuns împărat, şi a domnit opt ani la Ierusalim. A murit fără să lase părere de rău în urmă, şi l-au îngropat în cetatea lui David, dar nu în mormintele împăraţilor.

He was thirty-two years old when he became king. He reigned in Jerusalem eight years and, to no one’s sorrow, departed. However they buried him in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
