1 N ow after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,
Depois que Jesus nasceu em Belém da Judéia, nos dias do rei Herodes, magos vindos do oriente chegaram a Jerusalém
2 s aying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
e perguntaram: “Onde está o recém-nascido rei dos judeus? Vimos a sua estrela no oriente e viemos adorá-lo”.
3 W hen Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Quando o rei Herodes ouviu isso, ficou perturbado, e com ele toda Jerusalém.
4 A nd when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.
Tendo reunido todos os chefes dos sacerdotes do povo e os mestres da lei, perguntou-lhes onde deveria nascer o Cristo.
5 S o they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:
E eles responderam: “Em Belém da Judéia; pois assim escreveu o profeta:
6 ‘ But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”
“‘Mas tu, Belém, da terra de Judá, de forma alguma és a menor entre as principais cidades de Judá; pois de ti virá o líder que, como pastor, conduzirá Israel, o meu povo’ ”.
7 T hen Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared.
Então Herodes chamou os magos secretamente e informou-se com eles a respeito do tempo exato em que a estrela tinha aparecido.
8 A nd he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”
Enviou-os a Belém e disse: “Vão informar-se com exatidão sobre o menino. Logo que o encontrarem, avisem-me, para que eu também vá adorá-lo”.
9 W hen they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.
Depois de ouvirem o rei, eles seguiram o seu caminho, e a estrela que tinham visto no oriente foi adiante deles, até que finalmente parou sobre o lugar onde estava o menino.
10 W hen they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
Quando tornaram a ver a estrela, encheram-se de júbilo.
11 A nd when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Ao entrarem na casa, viram o menino com Maria, sua mãe, e, prostrando-se, o adoraram. Então abriram os seus tesouros e lhe deram presentes: ouro, incenso e mirra.
12 T hen, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way. The Flight into Egypt
E, tendo sido advertidos em sonho para não voltarem a Herodes, retornaram a sua terra por outro caminho. A Fuga para o Egito
13 N ow when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
Depois que partiram, um anjo do Senhor apareceu a José em sonho e lhe disse: “Levante-se, tome o menino e sua mãe, e fuja para o Egito. Fique lá até que eu lhe diga, pois Herodes vai procurar o menino para matá-lo”.
14 W hen he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,
Então ele se levantou, tomou o menino e sua mãe durante a noite, e partiu para o Egito,
15 a nd was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.” Massacre of the Innocents
onde ficou até a morte de Herodes. E assim se cumpriu o que o Senhor tinha dito pelo profeta: “Do Egito chamei o meu filho”.
16 T hen Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
Quando Herodes percebeu que havia sido enganado pelos magos, ficou furioso e ordenou que matassem todos os meninos de dois anos para baixo, em Belém e nas proximidades, de acordo com a informação que havia obtido dos magos.
17 T hen was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
Então se cumpriu o que fora dito pelo profeta Jeremias:
18 “ A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.” The Home in Nazareth
“Ouviu-se uma voz em Ramá, choro e grande lamentação; é Raquel que chora por seus filhos e recusa ser consolada, porque já não existem”. A Volta para Israel
19 N ow when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
Depois que Herodes morreu, um anjo do Senhor apareceu em sonho a José, no Egito,
20 s aying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life are dead.”
e disse: “Levante-se, tome o menino e sua mãe, e vá para a terra de Israel, pois estão mortos os que procuravam tirar a vida do menino”.
21 T hen he arose, took the young Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel.
Ele se levantou, tomou o menino e sua mãe, e foi para a terra de Israel.
22 B ut when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee.
Mas, ao ouvir que Arquelau estava reinando na Judéia em lugar de seu pai Herodes, teve medo de ir para lá. Tendo sido avisado em sonho, retirou-se para a região da Galiléia
23 A nd he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, “He shall be called a Nazarene.”
e foi viver numa cidade chamada Nazaré. Assim cumpriu-se o que fora dito pelos profetas: “Ele será chamado Nazareno”.
