1 M oreover Elihu answered and said,

Eliú prosseguiu:

2 T hinkest thou this to be thy right, Or sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God's,

“Você acha que isso é justo? Pois você diz: ‘Serei absolvido por Deus’.

3 T hat thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee? And, What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?

Contudo, você lhe pergunta: ‘Que vantagem tenho eu, e o que ganho, se não pecar?’

4 I will answer thee, And thy companions with thee.

“Desejo responder-lhe, a você e aos seus amigos que estão com você.

5 L ook unto the heavens, and see; And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.

Olhe para os céus e veja; mire as nuvens, tão elevadas.

6 I f thou hast sinned, what effectest thou against him? And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

Se você pecar, em que isso o afetará? Se os seus pecados forem muitos, que é que isso lhe fará?

7 I f thou be righteous, what givest thou him? Or what receiveth he of thy hand?

Se você for justo, o que lhe dará? Ou o que ele receberá de sua mão?

8 T hy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; And thy righteousness may profit a son of man.

A sua impiedade só afeta aos homens, seus semelhantes, e a sua justiça, aos filhos dos homens.

9 B y reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

“Os homens se lamentam sob fardos de opressão; imploram que os libertem do braço dos poderosos.

10 B ut none saith, Where is God my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night,

Mas não há quem pergunte: ‘Onde está Deus, o meu Criador, que de noite faz surgirem cânticos,

11 W ho teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, And maketh us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

que nos ensina mais que aos animais da terra e nos faz mais sábios que as aves dos céus?’

12 T here they cry, but none giveth answer, Because of the pride of evil men.

Quando clamam, ele não responde, por causa da arrogância dos ímpios.

13 S urely God will not hear an empty cry, Neither will the Almighty regard it.

Aliás, Deus não escuta a vã súplica que fazem; o Todo-poderoso não lhes dá atenção.

14 H ow much less when thou sayest thou beholdest him not, The cause is before him, and thou waitest for him!

Pois muito menos escutará quando você disser que não o vê, que a sua causa está diante dele e que você tem que esperar por ele.

15 B ut now, because he hath not visited in his anger, Neither doth he greatly regard arrogance;

Mais que isso, que a sua ira jamais castiga e que ele não dá a mínima atenção à iniqüidade.

16 T herefore doth Job open his mouth in vanity; He multiplieth words without knowledge.

Assim é que Jó abre a sua boca para dizer palavras vãs; em sua ignorância ele multiplica palavras”.
