1 T he words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

2 t o whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

A palavra do Senhor veio a ele no décimo terceiro ano do reinado de Josias, filho de Amom, rei de Judá,

3 I t came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

e durante o reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, até o quinto mês do décimo primeiro ano de Zedequias, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, quando os habitantes de Jerusalém foram levados para o exílio. O Chamado de Jeremias

4 N ow the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

A palavra do Senhor veio a mim, dizendo:

5 B efore I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.

“Antes de formá-lo no ventre eu o escolhi; antes de você nascer, eu o separei e o designei profeta às nações”.

6 T hen said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am a child.

Mas eu disse: Ah, Soberano Senhor! Eu não sei falar, pois ainda sou muito jovem.

7 B ut Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for to whomsoever I shall send thee thou shalt go, and whatsoever I shall command thee thou shalt speak.

O Senhor, porém, me disse: “Não diga que é muito jovem. A todos a quem eu o enviar, você irá e dirá tudo o que eu lhe ordenar.

8 B e not afraid because of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah.

Não tenha medo deles, pois eu estou com você para protegê-lo”, diz o Senhor.

9 T hen Jehovah put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth:

O Senhor estendeu a mão, tocou a minha boca e disse-me: “Agora ponho em sua boca as minhas palavras.

10 s ee, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

Veja! Eu hoje dou a você autoridade sobre nações e reinos, para arrancar, despedaçar, arruinar e destruir; para edificar e plantar”.

11 M oreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond-tree.

E a palavra do Senhor veio a mim: “O que você vê, Jeremias?” Vejo o ramo de uma amendoeira, respondi.

12 T hen said Jehovah unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I watch over my word to perform it.

O Senhor me disse: “Você viu bem, pois estou vigiando para que a minha palavra se cumpra”.

13 A nd the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a boiling caldron; and the face thereof is from the north.

A palavra do Senhor veio a mim pela segunda vez, dizendo: “O que você vê?” E eu respondi: Vejo uma panela fervendo; ela está inclinada do norte para cá.

14 T hen Jehovah said unto me, Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

O Senhor me disse: “Do norte se derramará a desgraça sobre todos os habitantes desta terra.

15 F or, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

Estou convocando todos os povos dos reinos do norte”, diz o Senhor. “Cada um virá e colocará o seu trono diante das portas de Jerusalém, virão contra todas as muralhas que a cercam e contra todas as cidades de Judá.

16 A nd I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

Pronunciarei a minha sentença contra o meu povo por todas as suas maldades; porque me abandonaram, queimaram incenso a outros deuses, e adoraram deuses que as suas mãos fizeram.

17 T hou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at them, lest I dismay thee before them.

“E você, prepare-se! Vá dizer-lhes tudo o que eu ordenar. Não fique aterrorizado por causa deles, senão eu o aterrorizarei diante deles.

18 F or, behold, I have made thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

E hoje eu faço de você uma cidade fortificada, uma coluna de ferro e um muro de bronze, contra toda a terra: contra os reis de Judá, seus oficiais, seus sacerdotes e o povo da terra.

19 A nd they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to deliver thee.

Eles lutarão contra você, mas não o vencerão, pois eu estou com você e o protegerei”, diz o Senhor.
