1 O give thanks unto Jehovah; For he is good; For his lovingkindness endureth for ever.

Dêem graças ao Senhor porque ele é bom; o seu amor dura para sempre.

2 L et the redeemed of Jehovah say so, Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the adversary,

Assim o digam os que o Senhor resgatou, os que livrou das mãos do adversário,

3 A nd gathered out of the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.

e reuniu de outras terras, do oriente e do ocidente, do norte e do sul.

4 T hey wandered in the wilderness in a desert way; They found no city of habitation.

Perambularam pelo deserto e por terras áridas sem encontrar cidade habitada.

5 H ungry and thirsty, Their soul fainted in them.

Estavam famintos e sedentos; sua vida ia se esvaindo.

6 T hen they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, And he delivered them out of their distresses,

Na sua aflição, clamaram ao Senhor, e ele os livrou da tribulação em que se encontravam

7 H e led them also by a straight way, That they might go to a city of habitation.

e os conduziu por caminho seguro a uma cidade habitada.

8 O h that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men!

Que eles dêem graças ao Senhor por seu amor leal e por suas maravilhas em favor dos homens,

9 F or he satisfieth the longing soul, And the hungry soul he filleth with good.

porque ele sacia o sedento e satisfaz plenamente o faminto.

10 S uch as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Being bound in affliction and iron,

Assentaram-se nas trevas e na sombra mortal, aflitos, acorrentados,

11 B ecause they rebelled against the words of God, And contemned the counsel of the Most High:

pois se rebelaram contra as palavras de Deus e desprezaram os desígnios do Altíssimo.

12 T herefore he brought down their heart with labor; They fell down, and there was none to help.

Por isso ele os sujeitou a trabalhos pesados; eles tropeçaram, e não houve quem os ajudasse.

13 T hen they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, And he saved them out of their distresses.

Na sua aflição, clamaram ao Senhor, e eles os salvou da tribulação em que se encontravam.

14 H e brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And brake their bonds in sunder.

Ele os tirou das trevas e da sombra mortal, e quebrou as correntes que os prendiam.

15 O h that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men!

Que eles dêem graças ao Senhor, por seu amor leal e por suas maravilhas em favor dos homens,

16 F or he hath broken the gates of brass, And cut the bars of iron in sunder.

porque despedaçou as portas de bronze e rompeu as trancas de ferro.

17 F ools because of their transgression, And because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

Tornaram-se tolos por causa dos seus caminhos rebeldes, e sofreram por causa das suas maldades.

18 T heir soul abhorreth all manner of food; And they draw near unto the gates of death.

Sentiram repugnância por toda comida e chegaram perto das portas da morte.

19 T hen they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, And he saveth them out of their distresses.

Na sua aflição, clamaram ao Senhor, e ele os salvou da tribulação em que se encontravam.

20 H e sendeth his word, and healeth them, And delivereth them from their destructions.

Ele enviou a sua palavra e os curou, e os livrou da morte.

21 O h that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men!

Que eles dêem graças ao Senhor, por seu amor leal e por suas maravilhas em favor dos homens.

22 A nd let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, And declare his works with singing.

Que eles ofereçam sacrifícios de ação de graças e anunciem as suas obras com cânticos de alegria.

23 T hey that go down to the sea in ships, That do business in great waters;

Fizeram-se ao mar em navios, para negócios na imensidão das águas,

24 T hese see the works of Jehovah, And his wonders in the deep.

e viram as obras do Senhor, as suas maravilhas nas profundezas.

25 F or he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, Which lifteth up the waves thereof.

Deus falou e provocou um vendaval que levantava as ondas.

26 T hey mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths: Their soul melteth away because of trouble.

Subiam aos céus e desciam aos abismos; diante de tal perigo, perderam a coragem.

27 T hey reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits' end.

Cambaleavam, tontos como bêbados, e toda a sua habilidade foi inútil.

28 T hen they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, And he bringeth them out of their distresses.

Na sua aflição, clamaram ao Senhor, e ele os tirou da tribulação em que se encontravam.

29 H e maketh the storm a calm, So that the waves thereof are still.

Reduziu a tempestade a uma brisa e serenou as ondas.

30 T hen are they glad because they are quiet; So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

As ondas sossegaram, eles se alegraram, e Deus os guiou ao porto almejado.

31 O h that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men!

Que eles dêem graças ao Senhor por seu amor leal e por suas maravilhas em favor dos homens.

32 L et them exalt him also in the assembly of the people, And praise him in the seat of the elders.

Que o exaltem na assembléia do povo e o louvem na reunião dos líderes.

33 H e turneth rivers into a wilderness, And watersprings into a thirsty ground;

Ele transforma os rios em deserto e as fontes em terra seca,

34 A fruitful land into a salt desert, For the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

faz da terra fértil um solo estéril, por causa da maldade dos seus moradores.

35 H e turneth a wilderness into a pool of water, And a dry land into watersprings.

Transforma o deserto em açudes e a terra ressecada, em fontes.

36 A nd there he maketh the hungry to dwell, That they may prepare a city of habitation,

Ali ele assenta os famintos, para fundarem uma cidade habitável,

37 A nd sow fields, and plant vineyards, And get them fruits of increase.

semearem lavouras, plantarem vinhas e colherem uma grande safra.

38 H e blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; And he suffereth not their cattle to decrease.

Ele os abençoa, e eles se multiplicam; e não deixa que os seus rebanhos diminuam.

39 A gain, they are diminished and bowed down Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.

Quando, porém, reduzidos, são humilhados com opressão, desgraça e tristeza.

40 H e poureth contempt upon princes, And causeth them to wander in the waste, where there is no way.

Deus derrama desprezo sobre os nobres e os faz vagar num deserto sem caminhos.

41 Y et setteth he the needy on high from affliction, And maketh him families like a flock.

Mas tira os pobres da miséria e aumenta as suas famílias como rebanhos.

42 T he upright shall see it, and be glad; And all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

Os justos vêem tudo isso e se alegram, mas todos os perversos se calam.

43 W hoso is wise will give heed to these things; And they will consider the lovingkindnesses of Jehovah. Psalm 108 A Song, A Psalm of David.
