1 S e dunque v’è qualche consolazione in Cristo, se vi è qualche conforto d’amore, se vi è qualche comunione di Spirito, se vi è qualche tenerezza di affetto e qualche compassione,

If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2 r endete perfetta la mia gioia, avendo un medesimo pensare, un medesimo amore, essendo di un animo solo e di un unico sentimento.

Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 N on fate nulla per spirito di parte o per vanagloria, ma ciascuno, con umiltà, stimi gli altri superiori a se stesso,

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4 c ercando ciascuno non il proprio interesse, ma {anche} quello degli altri.

Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

5 A bbiate in voi lo stesso sentimento che è stato anche in Cristo Gesù,

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 i l quale, pur essendo in forma di Dio, non considerò l’essere uguale a Dio qualcosa a cui aggrapparsi gelosamente,

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 m a svuotò se stesso, prendendo forma di servo, divenendo simile agli uomini;

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 t rovato esteriormente come un uomo, umiliò se stesso, facendosi ubbidiente fino alla morte, e alla morte di croce.

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 P erciò Dio lo ha sovranamente innalzato e gli ha dato il nome che è al di sopra di ogni nome,

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 a ffinché nel nome di Gesù si pieghi ogni ginocchio nei cieli, sulla terra, e sotto terra,

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 e ogni lingua confessi che Gesù Cristo è il Signore, alla gloria di Dio Padre. Esortazione alla santificazione

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 C osì, miei cari, voi che foste sempre ubbidienti, non solo come quando ero presente, ma molto più adesso che sono assente, adoperatevi al compimento della vostra salvezza con timore e tremore;

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13 i nfatti è Dio che produce in voi il volere e l’agire, secondo il suo disegno benevolo.

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14 F ate ogni cosa senza mormorii e senza dispute,

Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 p erché siate irreprensibili e integri, figli di Dio senza biasimo in mezzo a una generazione storta e perversa, nella quale risplendete come astri nel mondo,

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

16 t enendo alta la parola di vita, in modo che nel giorno di Cristo io possa vantarmi di non aver corso invano, né invano faticato.

Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

17 M a se anche vengo offerto in libazione sul sacrificio e sul servizio della vostra fede, ne gioisco e me ne rallegro con tutti voi;

Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

18 e nello stesso modo gioitene anche voi e rallegratevene con me. Missione di Timoteo ed Epafròdito

For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.

19 O ra spero nel Signore Gesù di mandarvi presto Timoteo per essere io pure incoraggiato nel ricevere vostre notizie.

But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

20 I nfatti non ho nessuno di animo pari al suo che abbia sinceramente a cuore quel che vi concerne.

For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

21 P oiché tutti cercano i loro propri interessi, e non quelli di Cristo Gesù.

For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.

22 V oi sapete che egli ha dato buona prova di sé, perché ha servito con me la causa del vangelo, come un figlio con il proprio padre.

But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

23 S pero dunque di mandarvelo appena avrò visto come andrà a finire la mia situazione;

Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

24 m a ho fiducia nel Signore di poter venire presto anch’io.

But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

25 P erò ho ritenuto necessario mandarvi Epafròdito, mio fratello, mio compagno di lavoro e di lotta, inviatomi da voi per provvedere alle mie necessità;

Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

26 e gli aveva un gran desiderio di vedervi tutti ed era preoccupato perché avevate saputo della sua malattia.

For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

27 È stato ammalato, infatti, e ben vicino alla morte, ma Dio ha avuto pietà di lui; e non soltanto di lui, ma anche di me, perché io non avessi dolore su dolore.

For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

28 P erciò ve l’ho mandato con gran premura, affinché vedendolo di nuovo vi rallegriate, e anch’io sia meno afflitto.

I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

29 A ccoglietelo dunque nel Signore con ogni gioia e abbiate stima di uomini simili;

Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:

30 p erché è per l’opera di Cristo che egli è stato molto vicino alla morte, avendo rischiato la propria vita per supplire ai servizi che non potevate rendermi voi stessi.

Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
