1 I l Signore mi disse: «Va’ ancora, ama una donna amata da un altro e adultera; amala come il Signore ama i figli d’Israele, i quali pure si volgono ad altri dèi e amano le schiacciate d’uva ».

Then said the Lord unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the Lord toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.

2 A llora me la comprai per quindici sicli d’argento, per un comer d’orzo e un letec d’orzo,

So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:

3 e le dissi: «Aspettami per parecchio tempo: non ti prostituire e non darti a nessun uomo; io farò lo stesso per te».

And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.

4 I figli d’Israele infatti staranno per parecchio tempo senza re, senza capo, senza sacrificio e senza statua, senza efod e senza idoli domestici.

For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:

5 P oi i figli d’Israele torneranno a cercare il Signore, loro Dio, e Davide, loro re, e ricorreranno tremanti al Signore e alla sua bontà, negli ultimi giorni.

Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and his goodness in the latter days.
