1 G esù, pieno di Spirito Santo, ritornò dal Giordano e fu condotto dallo Spirito nel deserto per quaranta giorni, dove era tentato dal diavolo.

And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

2 D urante quei giorni non mangiò nulla; e quando furono trascorsi, ebbe fame.

Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

3 I l diavolo gli disse: «Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, di’ a questa pietra che diventi pane».

And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

4 G esù gli rispose: «Sta scritto: “Non di pane soltanto vivrà l’uomo ” ».

And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

5 I l diavolo lo condusse in alto, gli mostrò in un attimo tutti i regni del mondo e gli disse:

And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6 « Ti darò tutta questa potenza e la gloria di questi regni; perché essa mi è stata data e la do a chi voglio.

And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

7 S e dunque tu ti prostri ad adorarmi, sarà tutta tua».

If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

8 G esù gli rispose: «'>.] Sta scritto: “Adora il Signore, il tuo Dio, e a lui solo rendi il tuo culto” ».

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

9 A llora lo portò a Gerusalemme e lo pose sul pinnacolo del tempio, e gli disse: «Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, gettati giù di qui,

And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

10 p erché sta scritto: “Egli darà ordine ai suoi angeli a tuo riguardo, di proteggerti”

For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:

11 e “Essi ti porteranno sulle mani, perché tu non urti col piede contro una pietra” ».

And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

12 G esù gli rispose: «È stato detto: “Non tentare il Signore Dio tuo” ».

And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

13 A llora il diavolo, dopo aver finito ogni tentazione, si allontanò da lui fino a un momento opportuno. Gesù Cristo in Galilea

And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

14 G esù, nella potenza dello Spirito, se ne tornò in Galilea; e la sua fama si sparse per tutta la regione.

And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

15 E insegnava nelle loro sinagoghe, glorificato da tutti. Gesù nella sinagoga di Nazaret

And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

16 S i recò a Nazaret, dov’era stato allevato e, com’era solito, entrò in giorno di sabato nella sinagoga e si alzò per leggere.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

17 G li fu dato il libro del profeta Isaia e, aperto il libro, trovò quel passo dov’era scritto:

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18 « Lo Spirito del Signore è sopra di me, perciò mi ha unto per evangelizzare i poveri; mi ha inviato per annunciare la liberazione ai prigionieri e il recupero della vista ai ciechi; per rimettere in libertà gli oppressi,

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 p er proclamare l’anno accettevole del Signore ».

To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 P oi, chiuso il libro e resolo all’inserviente, si mise a sedere; e gli occhi di tutti nella sinagoga erano fissi su di lui.

And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21 E gli prese a dire loro: «Oggi si è adempiuta questa Scrittura, che voi avete udito ».

And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

22 T utti gli rendevano testimonianza e si meravigliavano delle parole di grazia che uscivano dalla sua bocca, e dicevano: «Non è costui il figlio di Giuseppe?»

And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

23 E d egli disse loro: «Certo, voi mi citerete questo proverbio: “Medico, cura te stesso; fa’ anche qui nella tua patria tutto quello che abbiamo udito essere avvenuto in Capernaum!”».

And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.

24 M a egli disse: «In verità vi dico che nessun profeta è ben accetto nella sua patria.

And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

25 A nzi, vi dico in verità che ai giorni di Elia, quando il cielo fu chiuso per tre anni e sei mesi e vi fu grande carestia in tutto il paese, c’erano molte vedove in Israele;

But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

26 e ppure a nessuna di esse fu mandato Elia, bensì a una vedova in Sarepta di Sidone.

But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

27 A l tempo del profeta Eliseo c’erano molti lebbrosi in Israele; eppure nessuno di loro fu purificato, bensì Naaman, il Siro».

And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

28 U dendo queste cose, tutti nella sinagoga furono pieni d’ira.

And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

29 S i alzarono, lo cacciarono fuori dalla città e lo condussero fin sul ciglio del monte, sul quale era costruita la loro città, per precipitarlo giù.

And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.

30 M a egli, passando in mezzo a loro, se ne andò. Gesù guarisce un indemoniato a Capernaum

But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

31 P oi discese a Capernaum, città della Galilea, e qui insegnava alla gente nei giorni di sabato.

And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

32 E d essi si stupivano del suo insegnamento perché parlava con autorità.

And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

33 O r nella sinagoga si trovava un uomo che aveva uno spirito di demonio impuro, il quale gridò a gran voce:

And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

34 « Ahi! Che c’è fra noi e te, Gesù Nazareno? Sei venuto per mandarci in perdizione? Io so chi sei: il Santo di Dio!»

Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

35 G esù lo sgridò, dicendo: «Taci, ed esci da quest’uomo!» E il demonio, gettatolo a terra lì nel mezzo, uscì da lui senza fargli alcun male.

And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.

36 E tutti furono presi da stupore e discutevano tra di loro, dicendo: «Che parola è questa? Egli comanda con autorità e potenza agli spiriti immondi, ed essi escono».

And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

37 E la sua fama si diffondeva in ogni luogo della regione. Gesù guarisce la suocera di Pietro e altri malati

And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

38 P oi, alzatosi e uscito dalla sinagoga, entrò in casa di Simone. Or la suocera di Simone era tormentata da una gran febbre; e lo pregarono per lei.

And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.

39 C hinatosi su di lei, egli sgridò la febbre, e la febbre la lasciò; ed ella subito si alzò e si mise a servirli.

And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

40 A l tramontar del sole, tutti quelli che avevano dei sofferenti di varie malattie li conducevano a lui; ed egli li guariva, imponendo le mani a ciascuno.

Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

41 A nche i demòni uscivano da molti, gridando e dicendo: «Tu sei il Figlio di Dio!» Ma egli li sgridava e non permetteva loro di parlare, perché sapevano che egli era il Cristo.

And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

42 P oi, fattosi giorno, uscì e andò in un luogo deserto; e le folle lo cercavano e giunsero fino a lui, e lo trattenevano perché non si allontanasse da loro.

And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.

43 M a egli disse loro: «Anche alle altre città bisogna che io annunci la buona notizia del regno di Dio; poiché per questo sono stato mandato».

And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.

44 E andava predicando nelle sinagoghe della Giudea.

And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
