1 O racolo contro la Valle della Visione. Che hai tu, dunque, che sei tutta quanta salita sui tetti,

The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?

2 o città piena di clamori, città di tumulti, città piena di gaiezza? I tuoi uccisi non sono uccisi di spada né morti in battaglia.

Thou that art full of stirs, a tumultuous city, joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.

3 T utti i tuoi capi fuggono assieme, sono fatti prigionieri senza che l’arco sia stato tirato; tutti quelli dei tuoi che sono trovati sono fatti prigionieri, benché fuggiti lontano.

All thy rulers are fled together, they are bound by the archers: all that are found in thee are bound together, which have fled from far.

4 P erciò dico: «Distogliete da me lo sguardo, io voglio piangere amaramente; non insistete a volermi consolare del disastro della figlia del mio popolo!»

Therefore said I, Look away from me; I will weep bitterly, labour not to comfort me, because of the spoiling of the daughter of my people.

5 È infatti un giorno di tumulto, di calpestio, di perplessità, il giorno del Signore, Dio degli eserciti, nella Valle delle Visioni. Si abbattono le mura, il grido d’angoscia giunge fino ai monti.

For it is a day of trouble, and of treading down, and of perplexity by the Lord God of hosts in the valley of vision, breaking down the walls, and of crying to the mountains.

6 E lam porta la faretra con delle truppe sui carri e dei cavalieri; Chir snuda lo scudo.

And Elam bare the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield.

7 L e tue più belle valli sono piene di carri, i cavalieri prendono posizione davanti alle tue porte.

And it shall come to pass, that thy choicest valleys shall be full of chariots, and the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.

8 I l velo è strappato a Giuda; in quel giorno, ecco che volgete lo sguardo all’arsenale della casa della Foresta,

And he discovered the covering of Judah, and thou didst look in that day to the armour of the house of the forest.

9 o sservate che le brecce della città di Davide sono numerose e raccogliete le acque del serbatoio di sotto;

Ye have seen also the breaches of the city of David, that they are many: and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool.

10 c ontate le case di Gerusalemme e demolite le case per fortificare le mura;

And ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have ye broken down to fortify the wall.

11 f ate un bacino fra le due mura per le acque del serbatoio antico, ma non volgete lo sguardo a colui che ha fatto queste cose e non vedete colui che da lungo tempo le ha preparate.

Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.

12 I l Signore, Dio degli eserciti, vi chiama in questo giorno a piangere, a fare lamento, a radervi il capo, a indossare il sacco,

And in that day did the Lord God of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:

13 e d ecco che tutto è gioia, tutto è festa! Si ammazzano buoi, si scannano pecore, si mangia carne, si beve vino. «Mangiamo e beviamo, poiché domani morremo!»

And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.

14 M a il Signore degli eserciti me l’ha rivelato chiaramente: «No, questa iniquità non la potrete espiare che con la vostra morte», dice il Signore, Dio degli eserciti.

And it was revealed in mine ears by the Lord of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord God of hosts.

15 C osì parla il Signore, Dio degli eserciti: «Va’ a trovare questo cortigiano, Sebna, prefetto del palazzo, e digli:

Thus saith the Lord God of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,

16 “ Che hai tu qui, e chi hai tu qui, che ti sei fatto scavare qui un sepolcro? Scavarsi un sepolcro in alto!… Lavorarsi una dimora nella roccia!…

What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here, as he that heweth him out a sepulchre on high, and that graveth an habitation for himself in a rock?

17 E cco, il Signore ti lancerà via con braccio vigoroso, farà di te un gomitolo,

Behold, the Lord will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee.

18 t i farà rotolare, rotolare, come una palla sopra una spaziosa pianura. Laggiù morirai, laggiù saranno i tuoi carri superbi, o vergogna della casa del tuo signore!

He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord's house.

19 I o ti scaccerò dal tuo ufficio e tu sarai buttato giù dal tuo posto!

And I will drive thee from thy station, and from thy state shall he pull thee down.

20 I n quel giorno io chiamerò il mio servo Eliachim, figlio di Chilchia;

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:

21 l o vestirò della tua tunica, gli allaccerò la tua cintura, rimetterò la tua autorità nelle sue mani; egli sarà un padre per gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e per la casa di Giuda.

And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.

22 M etterò sulla sua spalla la chiave della casa di Davide; egli aprirà, e nessuno chiuderà; egli chiuderà, e nessuno aprirà.

And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

23 L o pianterò come un chiodo in un luogo solido; egli diverrà un trono di gloria per la casa di suo padre.

And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house.

24 A lui sarà sospesa tutta la gloria della casa di suo padre, i suoi rampolli nobili e ignobili, tutti i vasi più piccoli, dalle coppe alle bottiglie”».

And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.

25 « In quel giorno», dice il Signore degli eserciti, «il chiodo piantato in luogo solido sarà tolto, sarà strappato, cadrà; tutto ciò che vi era appeso sarà distrutto», poiché il Signore l’ha detto.

In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the Lord hath spoken it.
