1 B ấy giờ, cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều kéo ra đi, từ Đan cho đến Bê -e-sê-ba, và cho đến xứ Ga-la-át; hội chúng tụ hiệp lại như một người trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, tại Mích-ba.

Then all the people of Israel from Dan to Beersheba and from the land of Gilead came out. The people gathered together as one man to the Lord at Mizpah.

2 N hững quan trưởng của cả dân sự, tức là của các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, đều ra mắt trong hội của dân Đức Chúa Trời: có bốn trăm ngàn lính bộ, có tài cầm gươm.

The leaders of all the people, all the families of Israel, showed themselves in the meeting of the people of God. There were 400, 000 soldiers on foot who used the sword.

3 V ả, người Bên-gia-min đã hay rằng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên Mích-ba. Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên nói: Hãy thuật lại cho biết tội ác nầy đã phạm làm sao?

(The people of Benjamin heard that the people of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) The people of Israel said, “Tell us. How did this sinful thing happen?”

4 N gười Lê-vi, chồng của người đờn bà bị giết, đáp rằng: Tôi có vào thành Ghi-bê -a, là thành của Bên-gia-min, với vợ bé tôi, đặng ngủ đêm tại đó.

The Levite, the husband of the woman who was killed, answered, “I came with my woman to stay the night at Gibeah, a city of Benjamin.

5 N hưng dân Ghi-bê -a dấy lên cùng tôi, đương ban đêm vây nhà tôi ở; chúng đã toan giết tôi, có hành hung cùng vợ bé tôi, và nó chết vì cớ đó.

But the men of Gibeah came against me. They gathered around the house at night because of me. They wanted to kill me. But they did sex with my woman instead, so she died.

6 Đ oạn, tôi nắm lấy thây vợ bé tôi, chặt nó ra từng đoạn, gởi đi khắp địa phận của sản nghiệp Y-sơ-ra-ên; vì chúng nó có phạm một tội trọng, một sự sỉ nhục trong Y-sơ-ra-ên.

I took my woman and cut her into pieces. I sent her out through all the land that was given to Israel. For they have done a sinful act of shame in Israel.

7 N ầy, hết thảy dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có mặt đây; anh em hãy bàn luận nhau và liệu định phải làm thế nào đây.

All you people of Israel, say what should be done.”

8 C ả dân sự đứng dậy như một người mà rằng: Chẳng ai trong chúng ta sẽ trở lại trại mình; không ai rút về nhà mình.

All the people stood up as one man, saying, “Not one of us will go to his tent. Not one of us will return to his house.

9 B ây giờ, nầy là điều chúng ta phải xử cho Ghi-bê -a: Chúng ta sẽ đi lên đánh thành đó theo thứ tự của thăm nhứt định.

But this is what we will do to Gibeah. We will go against it by drawing names.

10 T rong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, chúng ta phải lấy mười người trong một trăm, trăm người trong một ngàn, ngàn người trong một muôn. Chúng ta sẽ đi tìm lương thực cho dân sự; rồi khi trở về, người ta phải xử Ghi-bê -a của Bên-gia-min, tùy theo sự sỉ nhục mà thành ấy đã phạm nơi Y-sơ-ra-ên.

We will take ten men of every 100 among the families of Israel, and 100 of every 1, 000, and 1, 000 of every 10, 000. They will take food for the people. So when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, they may punish them for all the acts of shame they have done in Israel.”

11 A áy vậy, hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên nhóm nhau hãm đánh thành đó, hiệp lại như chỉ một người.

All the men of Israel were gathered against the city, together as one man.

12 C ác chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên sai sứ giả đến cùng chi phái Bên-gia-min mà nói rằng: Tội ác đã phạm tại trong các ngươi là gì?

The family groups of Israel sent men through the whole family group of Benjamin, saying, “What is this sin that has happened among you?

13 B ây giờ, hãy nộp cho chúng ta những người gian tà của Ghi-bê -a, để chúng ta xử tử chúng nó, và diệt điều ác khỏi giữa Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nhưng người Bên-gia-min không khứng nghe tiếng của anh em mình, là dân Y-sơ-ra-ên,

Now give us the sinful men of Gibeah. Then we will put them to death and take this sin away from Israel.” But the people of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the people of Israel.

14 b èn ra khỏi thành họ, và nhóm hiệp tại Ghi-bê -a đặng giao chiến cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.

The people of Benjamin gathered from the cities to Gibeah. They came to go out to battle against the people of Israel.

15 T rong ngày đó, người ta tu bộ người Bên-gia-min từ các thành mà đến; số là hai muôn sáu ngàn người nam, đều có tài cầm gươm, không kể dân Ghi-bê -a, được số bảy trăm người tinh-binh.

Out of the sons of Benjamin, there were 26, 000 men who used the sword who came from the cities on that day. And there were 700 chosen men who lived in Gibeah.

16 T rong cả dân sự ấy có bảy trăm người tinh-binh thuận tay tả. Hết thảy những kẻ đó có tài dùng trành ném đá trúng một sợi tóc, mà chẳng hề sai trật.

There were 700 chosen men of all these people who were left-handed. Each one could use a sling to throw a stone at a hair and not miss.

17 N gười ta cũng tu bộ những người nam Y-sơ-ra-ên, không kể người Bên-gia-min, thì số được bốn mươi vạn người, có tài cầm gươm, thảy đều là chiến sĩ.

Apart from Benjamin, there were 400, 000 men of Israel who used the sword. All of them were men of war.

18 V ậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên Ghi-bê -a và cầu vấn Đức Chúa Trời như vầy: Ai trong chúng tôi phải lên trước đặng giao chiến cùng người Bên-gia-min? Đức Giê-hô-va đáp: Giu-đa sẽ đi lên trước.

The people of Israel went up to Bethel. There they asked God, “Who should go first for us to fight against the people of Benjamin?” The Lord said, “Judah should go first.”

19 V ừa sáng ngày, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên kéo đi và đóng trại gần Ghi-bê -a.

So the people of Israel got up in the morning and went to get ready to fight against Gibeah.

20 N gười Y-sơ-ra-ên ra đánh người Bên-gia-min, dàn trận cùng chúng tại trước Ghi-bê -a.

The men of Israel went to fight against Benjamin. They dressed themselves for battle against them at Gibeah.

21 N gười Bên-gia-min bèn ra khỏi Ghi-bê -a, và trong ngày đó, giết hai muôn ngàn người Y-sơ-ra-ên, nằm chật đất.

The people of Benjamin came out of Gibeah and killed 22, 000 men of Israel on that day.

22 D ân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại phấn chí, dàn trận mới tại chỗ mình đã dàn ngày thứ nhứt.

But the men of Israel made their hearts strong. They got ready for battle again in the same place they had fought the first day.

23 D ân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên khóc trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va cho đến chiều tối, cầu vấn Đức Giê-hô-va mà rằng: Tôi phải đi giao chiến lại cùng người Bên-gia-min, là anh em của tôi, chăng? Đức Giê-hô-va đáp: Hãy lên đánh nó!

The people of Israel went up and cried before the Lord until evening. They asked the Lord, “Should we go again in battle against our brothers the people of Benjamin?” And the Lord said, “Go fight against them.”

24 N gày thứ nhì người Y-sơ-ra-ên kéo tới đánh ngươi Bên-gia-min.

So the sons of Israel came to fight against the sons of Benjamin the second day.

25 N gười Bên-gia-min cũng ra Ghi-bê -a nội ngày đó, đánh dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, lại giết nằm sải dưới đất một muôn tám ngàn người của dân ấy, thảy đều có tài cầm gươm.

Benjamin went out against them from Gibeah the second day. And they killed 18, 000 men of Israel who used the sword.

26 B ấy giờ, hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên và cả dân sự đều đi lên Bê-tên, khóc và đứng tại đó trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, cữ ăn trong ngày ấy cho đến chiều tối, rồi dâng của lễ thiêu và của lễ thù ân tại trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va.

Then all the people of Israel went up to Bethel and cried. They stayed that day before the Lord and would not eat until evening. They gave burnt gifts and peace gifts to the Lord.

27 Đ ương khi ấy, hòm giao ước của Đức Chúa Trời ở tại đó, có Phi-nê -a, con trai Ê-lê -a-sa, cháu A-rôn, phục sự trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va. Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cầu vấn Đức Giê-hô-va mà rằng:

The people of Israel asked the Lord what to do. (For the special box with the Law of God was there in those days.

28 T ôi còn phải giao chiến cùng người Bên-gia-min, anh em tôi, hay là tôi phải đình lại? Đức Giê-hô-va đáp: Hãy đi lên, vì ngày mai ta sẽ phó chúng nó vào tay các ngươi.

Phinehas the son of Eleazar, Aaron’s son, served in front of it those days.) The people said, “Should we go again in battle against our brothers the people of Benjamin? Or should we stop?” The Lord said, “Go fight against them. For tomorrow I will give them into your hand.”

29 Y -sơ-ra-ên bèn phục binh chung quanh Ghi-bê -a.

So Israel sent men to hide around Gibeah.

30 N gày thứ ba, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên, đánh người Bên-gia-min và dàn trận cùng Ghi-bê -a như các lần trước.

The sons of Israel went to fight against the sons of Benjamin on the third day. They dressed themselves for battle against Gibeah as they had done before.

31 N gười Bên-gia-min ra đón dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, bị dụ xa thành. Y như hai lần trước chúng khởi đánh và giết mấy người của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, chừng ba mươi người, tại trong hai con đường trải qua đồng bằng đi lên, một ngả tới Bê-tên, và ngả kia tới Ghi-bê -a.

The sons of Benjamin went out to fight the people and were taken away from the city. They began to fight and kill some of the people as they had done before. They killed about thirty men of Israel in the open country and on the roads. One road went up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah.

32 N gười Bên-gia-min nói rằng: Kìa, chúng nó bị bại trước mặt chúng ta như lần trước. Nhưng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên nói: Chúng ta hãy chạy trốn, dụ chúng nó ra cách xa thành, đến trong các đường cái.

The sons of Benjamin said, “They are being killed in front of us as they were the first day.” But the sons of Israel said, “Let us run away so we can get them away from the city and to the roads.”

33 H ết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn bỏ chỗ mình đứng, dàn trận tại Ba-anh-Tha-ma, và đạo binh phục của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phục của Y-sơ-ra-ên đâm sầm ra khỏi chỗ phục mình tại đồng bằng Ghi-bê -a.

Then all the men of Israel left their place and went to fight at Baal-tamar. And the men of Israel who were hiding rushed out of their place in the plain of Geba.

34 N hư vậy, xảy có một muôn tinh binh của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phục trước tại Ghi-bê -a xông tới, đánh giặc rất dữ dội; nhưng người Bên-gia-min không biết tai họa hãm lấy mình.

When 10, 000 chosen men of Israel came against Gibeah, the battle was hard. But the people of Benjamin did not know that such danger was so close to them.

35 Đ ức Giê-hô-va đánh bại người chi phái Bên-gia-min trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên; và trong ngày đó, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên giết hai muôn năm ngàn mốt người Bên-gia-min, hết thảy đều có tài cầm gươm.

The Lord destroyed Benjamin in front of Israel. The sons of Israel destroyed 25, 100 men of Benjamin that day. All these were men who used the sword.

36 N gười Bên-gia-min thấy rõ mình bị bại. Vả, người Y-sơ-ra-ên đã nhường bước cho người Bên-gia-min, vì chúng tin cậy nơi sự phục binh mình ở gần Ghi-bê -a.

So the people of Benjamin saw that they had lost the battle. The men of Israel ran from Benjamin because they trusted in the men who were hiding and waiting to take Gibeah.

37 N hững binh đã phục, lật đật xông hãm Ghi-bê -a, đi tới lấy gươm giết hết thảy cả người ở thành.

The men who had been hiding were quick to rush against Gibeah. They destroyed all of the city with the sword.

38 N gười Y-sơ-ra-ên đã hẹn một dấu hiệu với những binh phục, là những phục binh phải làm cho một ngọn khói đen cất lên khỏi thành.

The men of Israel had agreed that the men who had been hiding should make a big cloud of smoke rise from the city. It would be something special for them to see.

39 V ậy, dân Y-sơ -r-ên đã thối lại trong trận, còn người Bên-gia-min khởi đánh và giết chừng ba mươi người Y-sơ-ra-ên. Chúng nói: Quả thật chúng nó bị thua trước mặt chúng ta như lần trước!

Then the men of Israel turned around to fight in battle. Benjamin began to fight and kill about thirty men of Israel. They said, “For sure they are destroyed in front of us as in the first battle.”

40 N hưng khi trụ khói khởi bay lên khỏi thành, người Bên-gia-min nhìn xem lại đằng sau, thấy cả thành đều có khói bay lên trời.

But when the cloud of smoke started to rise from the city, the men of Benjamin looked behind them. They saw the whole city going up in smoke to heaven.

41 B ấy giờ, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên trở lại, còn nhưng người Bên-gia-min lấy làm kinh hãi, vì thấy tai họa đã hãm áp mình.

Then the men of Israel turned around. And the men of Benjamin were filled with fear. For they saw that they were in much danger.

42 C húng xây lưng lại trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng; nhưng đạo binh Y-sơ-ra-ên theo riết gần, và những kẻ ra khỏi thành đều bị giết liền.

So they turned their backs to the men of Israel and ran toward the desert. But they were caught in the battle. Those who came out of the cities destroyed them.

43 C húng vây phủ người Bên-gia-min, đuổi theo và chà đạp họ tại nơi họ dừng lại, cho đến chỗ đối ngang Ghi-bê -a, về hướng mặt trời mọc.

They gathered around the people of Benjamin. They ran after them without stopping to rest and came upon them at the east side of Gibeah.

44 N hư vậy, một muôn tám ngàn người Bên-gia-min phải ngã, thảy đều là người dõng sĩ.

So 18, 000 men of Benjamin were killed. All of them were powerful soldiers.

45 T rong số người xây lưng chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng, hướng hòn đá Rim-môn, thì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên còn giết dọc đường năm ngàn người nữa, đoạn theo riết gần đến Ghi-bê-om thì giết hai ngàn người.

The others turned and ran toward the desert to the rock of Rimmon. But Israel killed 5, 000 of them on the roads, and 2, 000 at Gidom.

46 V ậy, số tổng cộng người Bên-gia-min ngã chết trong ngày đó là hai muôn năm ngàn người có tài cầm gươm, và thảy đều là người dõng sĩ.

So 25, 000 men of Benjamin were killed that day. All of them were powerful soldiers who used the sword.

47 L ại có sáu trăm người xây lưng chạy trốn về phía đồng vắng, đến hòn đá Rim-môn và ở đó bốn tháng.

But 600 men ran toward the desert to the rock of Rimmon. They stayed there for four months.

48 Đ oạn, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên trở lại đánh người Bên-gia-min, dùng gươm giết hết thảy người ta ở trong thành, súc vật và hết thảy vật nào gặp được; lại hễ gặp thành nào, thì châm lửa đốt nó.

Then the men of Israel returned to fight the people of Benjamin. They destroyed them, their whole city, the cattle and all they found, with the sword. And they set fire to all the cities they found.
