1 А докато Ездра се молеше и се изповядваше с плач, паднал пред Божия дом, при него се събра от Израел едно много голямо множество мъже, жени и деца; защото народът плачеше много горчиво.

Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.

2 Т огава Сехания, Ехииловият син, от Еламовите потомци, проговори и каза на Ездра: Ние извършихме престъпление против своя Бог, като взехме чужденки от племената на земята; все пак обаче сега има надежда за Израел относно това.

And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.

3 И така, сега нека сключим завет с нашия Бог да напуснем всички тези жени и родените от тях,съгласно съвета на господаря ми и на онези, които треперят от заповедта на нашия Бог, и нека постъпим според закона.

Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.

4 С тани, защото това нещо принадлежи на теб; и ние сме с тебе; бъди храбър и действай.

Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.

5 Т огава Ездра стана и закле началниците на свещениците, на левитите и на целия Израел, че ще постъпят според това заявление. И те се заклеха.

Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they should do according to this word. And they sware.

6 Т огава Ездра стана отпред Божия дом и отиде в стаята на Йоанан, Елиасивовия син; но когато стигна там, не яде хляб и не пи вода, защото тъжеше за престъплението на онези, които са били в плена.

Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he mourned because of the transgression of them that had been carried away.

7 П осле прогласиха по Юдея и Йерусалим между всички, върнали се от плена, да се съберат в Йерусалим

And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;

8 и да бъде конфискуван целият имот на всеки, който не би дошъл в срок от три дни според решението на началниците и старейшините, и сам той да бъде отлъчен от обществото на онези, които са били в плен.

and that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.

9 И така, за три дни в Йерусалим се събраха всички Юдови и Вениаминови мъже. Беше деветият месец, на двадесетия ден от месеца; и целият народ, като седеше в двора пред Божия дом, трепереше поради това нещо и от поройния дъжд.

Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.

10 Т огава свещеник Ездра стана и им каза: Вие сте извършили престъпление, като сте взели чужденки за жени, и сте увеличили виновността на Израел.

And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.

11 И така, сега се изповядайте на Господа, Бога на бащите си, и изпълнете волята Му, и се отлъчете от племената на тази земя и от чужденките жени.

Now therefore make confession unto the Lord God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.

12 Т огава цялото събрание отговори със силен глас: Както си казал, така подобава на нас да направим.

Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said, so must we do.

13 Н ародът обаче е много и понеже времето е много дъждовно, не можем да стоим вън; при това работата не е за един ден, нито за два, защото сме мнозина, които сме съгрешили в това.

But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have transgressed in this thing.

14 З атова нека нашите първенци бъдат назначени да надзирават тази работа за цялото общество и в определени времена нека идват пред тях всички, които са взели за жени чужденки по нашите градове, и заедно с тях старейшините на всеки град и съдиите му, докато се отвърне от нас пламенният гняв на нашия Бог поради това.

Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.

15 И понеже само Йонатан, Асаиловият син, и Яазия, Текуевият син, станаха да се противят, с Месулам и левита Саватай, които ги подкрепиха,

Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.

16 з атова завърналите се от плена постъпиха така; и към свещеника Ездра се отделиха някои началници на бащини домове, според бащините си домове, всеки по име; и те седнаха на първия ден от десетия месец да изследват тази работа.

And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain chief of the fathers, after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names, were separated, and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.

17 И до първия ден от първия месец свършиха с всички мъже, които бяха взели за жени чужденки.

And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.

18 М ежду потомците на свещениците се намериха такива, които бяха взели за жени чужденки: от синовете на Исус, Йоседековия син, и братята му - Маасия, Елиезер, Ярив и Годолия.

And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.

19 Т е дадоха ръцете си в обещание, че ще напуснат жените си; и като престъпници принесоха за престъплението си овен от стадото.

And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their trespass.

20 А от Емировите потомци - Ананий и Зевадия;

And of the sons of Immer; Hanani, and Zebadiah.

21 о т Харимовите потомци - Маасия, Илия, Семая, Ехиил и Озия.

And of the sons of Harim; Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.

22 О т Пасхоровите потомци - Елиоинай, Маасия, Исмаил, Натанаил, Йозавад и Еласа.

And of the sons of Pashur; Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.

23 А от левитите: Йозавад, Семей, Келайя (който е Келита), Петайя, Юда и Елиезер.

Also of the Levites; Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah, (the same is Kelita,) Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

24 О т певците - Елиасив; и от вратарите: Селум, Телем и Урий.

Of the singers also; Eliashib: and of the porters; Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.

25 А от Израел, от Фаросовите потомци: Рамия, Езия, Мелхия, Миамин, Елеазар, Мелхия и Ванайя.

Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

26 О т Еламовите потомци: Матания, Захария, Ехиил, Авдий, Еримот и Илия.

And of the sons of Elam; Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliah.

27 О т Затуевите потомци: Елиоинай, Елиасив, Матания, Еримот, Завад и Азиза.

And of the sons of Zattu; Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

28 О т Виваевите потомци: Йоанан, Анания, Завай и Атлай.

Of the sons also of Bebai; Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.

29 О т Ваниевите потомци: Месулам, Малух, Адайя, Ясув, Сеал и Рамот.

And of the sons of Bani; Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.

30 О т Фаат-моавовите потомци: Адна, Хелал, Ванайя, Маасия, Матания, Веселеил, Вануй и Манасия.

And of the sons of Pahath-moab; Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

31 О т Харимовите потомци: Елиезер, Есия, Мелхия, Семая и Симеон,

And of the sons of Harim; Eliezer, Ishijah, Malchiah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,

32 В ениамин, Малух и Самария.

Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.

33 О т Асумовите потомци: Матенай, Матата, Завад, Елифалет, Еремай, Манасия и Семей.

Of the sons of Hashum; Mattenai, Mattathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.

34 О т Ваниевите потомци: Маадай, Амрам и Уил,

Of the sons of Bani; Maadai, Amram, and Uel,

35 В анайя, Ведейя, Хелуй,

Benaiah, Bedeiah, Chelluh,

36 В ания, Меримот, Елиасив,

Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,

37 М атания, Матенай, Яасо,

Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasau,

38 В аний, Вануй, Семей,

and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei,

39 С елемия, Натан, Адайя,

and Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah,

40 М ахнадевай, Сасай, Сарай,

Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,

41 А зареил, Селемия, Самария,

Azareel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah,

42 С елум, Амария и Йосиф.

Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.

43 О т Невоевите потомци: Еиил, Мататия, Завад, Зевина, Ядав, Йоил и Ванайя.

Of the sons of Nebo; Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, and Joel, Benaiah.

44 В сички те бяха взели чужденки за жени; и някои от жените бяха им родили деца.

All these had taken strange wives: and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
