1 Д о това време Саул беше царувал една година. А като минаха две години от Сауловото царуване над Израел,

Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel,

2 т ой си избра три хиляди мъже от Израел, от които две хиляди бяха с него в Михмас и на хълма Ветил, а хиляда бяха с Йонатан в Гавая Вениаминова. Останалата част от народа Саул отпрати обратно, всеки в шатъра му.

Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in mount Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.

3 Й онатан разби филистимската стража, която беше в Гавая. И филистимците разбраха за това. А Саул извести с тръба по цялата земя, като казваше: Нека чуят за това и евреите.

And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.

4 И така, целият Израел беше известѐн, че Саул нападнал филистимската стража и че Израел бил намразен от филистимците. И народът се събра в Галгал да следва Саул.

And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel also was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.

5 А филистимците се събраха да се бият с Израел, тридесет хиляди колесници и шест хиляди конници - народ на брой като пясъка край морския бряг. И излязоха и разположиха стан в Михмас, на изток от Ветавен.

And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Beth-aven.

6 К огато Израелевите мъже видяха, че бяха притиснати (защото народът беше в опасност), тогава хората се скриха в пещерите, в гъсталаците, в скалите, в проломите и в рововете.

When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.

7 Н якои от евреите преминаха Йордан към Гадовата и Галаадската земя. А колкото до Саул, той беше още в Галгал; и целият народ вървеше след него с трепет.

And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

8 С аул чака седем дни според определеното от Самуил време, но понеже Самуил не беше дошъл в Галгал и народът се разпръскваше,

And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

9 С аул каза: Донесете тук при мене всеизгарянето и мирните приноси. И той принесе всеизгарянето.

And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.

10 И щом свърши принасянето на всеизгарянето, Самуил дойде. И Саул излезе да го посрещне и да го поздрави.

And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

11 А Самуил каза: Какво направи ти? Саул отговори: Понеже видях, че народът се разпръсваше от мен и че ти не дойде в определеното време, а филистимците се събраха в Михмас,

And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;

12 с и казах: Сега филистимците ще ме нападнат в Галгал, а пък аз не съм отправил молба към Господа. Затова дръзнах и принесох всеизгарянето.

therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.

13 С амуил каза на Саул: Безумие си извършил ти, че не си спазил повелението, което Господ, твоят Бог, ти заповяда, а Господ щеше сега да утвърди царството ти над Израел до века.

And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

14 Н о сега царството ти няма да устои. Господ Си потърси човек според сърцето Си и него определи да бъде цар над народа Му, понеже ти не спази онова, което Господ ти заповяда.

But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.

15 Т огава Самуил стана и си отиде от Галгал в Гавая Вениаминова. А Саул преброи народа, който се намираше с него, и те бяха около шестстотин мъже.

And Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.

16 С аул, синът му Йонатан и хората, които се намираха с тях, седяха в Гавая Вениаминова; а филистимците бяха разположили стан в Михмас.

And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Gibeah of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.

17 Т огава от филистимския стан излязоха три дружини грабители; една дружина се отправи по пътя за Офра към земята Согал;

And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual:

18 д руга дружина се отправи по пътя за Веторон; а трета дружина се отправи по пътя за околността, която гледа към долината Севоим, към пустинята.

and another company turned the way to Beth-horon: and another company turned to the way of the border that looketh to the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.

19 А в цялата Израелева земя нямаше нито един ковач, защото филистимците си казваха: Да не позволяваме евреите да си направят мечове или копия.

Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:

20 В сички израелтяни отиваха при филистимците, за да наклепят всеки търнокопа си, палешника си, брадвата си и мотиката си.

but all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock.

21 И маха обаче пили за търнокопите, палешниците, тризъбците и брадвите и за да си острят остените.

Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads.

22 И така, в деня на боя нямаше нито меч, нито копие в ръката на някого от хората, които бяха със Саул и Йонатан. Само Саул и синът му Йонатан имаха.

So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.

23 А филистимската стража беше разположена към прохода на Михмас.

And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.
