1 Р овоам отиде в Сихем, защото там се беше стекъл целият Израел, за да го направи цар.

And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

2 А Еровоам, Наватовият син, който още беше в Египет, където беше побегнал от присъствието на цар Соломон, като разбра за това, остана в Египет.

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)

3 Н о пратиха вестоносци и го повикаха. Тогава Еровоам и цялото Израелево общество дойдоха и казаха на Ровоам:

that they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

4 Б аща ти направи непоносим хомота ни. Облекчи сега жестокото ни работене на баща ти и тежкия хомот, който той наложи върху нас, и ще ти работим.

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

5 А той им отговори: Идете си, чакайте три дни. После се върнете при мен. И народът си отиде.

And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

6 Т огава цар Ровоам се съветва със старейшините, които бяха служили при баща му Соломон, докато беше още жив, и им каза: Как ме съветвате да отговоря на този народ?

And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?

7 Т е му отвърнаха: Ако днес станеш слуга на този народ, да им слугуваш и им отговориш, като им продумаш благи думи, тогава те ще ти бъдат слуги завинаги.

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

8 Н о той отхвърли съвета, който старейшините му дадоха, и се съветва с младите си служители, които бяха пораснали заедно с него.

But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:

9 З апита ги: Как ме съветвате да отговорим на този народ, който ми каза: Облекчи хомота, който баща ти наложи върху нас?

and he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?

10 И младежите, които бяха пораснали заедно с него, му отговориха следното: Така кажи на този народ, който ти каза: Баща ти направи тежък хомота ни, но ти ни го облекчи, - така да им отговориш: Малкият ми пръст ще бъде по-дебел от бащиния ми кръст.

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

11 А ко баща ми ви е товарил с тежък хомот, то аз ще направя още по-тежък хомота ви. Ако баща ми ви е наказвал с бичове, аз ще ви наказвам със скорпиони.

And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

12 Т огава Еровоам и целият народ дойдоха при Ровоам на третия ден, както царят беше казал: Върнете се при мене на третия ден.

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.

13 И царят отговори на народа остро, като пренебрегна съвета, който старейшините му дадоха,

And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him;

14 и им отговори според съвета на младите: Баща ми направи тежък хомота ви, но аз ще го направя още по-тежък. Баща ми ви наказа с бичове, но аз ще ви накажа със скорпиони.

and spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

15 Т ака царят не послуша народа; защото това стана от Господа, за да се изпълни словото, което Господ беше говорил чрез силонеца Ахия на Еровоам, Наватовия син.

Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the Lord, that he might perform his saying, which the Lord spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16 А след като целият Израел видя, че царят не ги послуша, народът отговори на царя: Какъв дял имаме ние с Давид? Никакво наследство нямаме в Есеевия син! В шатрите си, Израелю! Промисли сега, Давиде, за дома си.

So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

17 А колкото до израелтяните, които живееха в Юдовите градове, Ровоам царуваше над тях.

But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18 Т огава цар Ровоам прати при израелтяните Адорам, който отговаряше за данъците. Но целият Израел го затрупаха с камъни и той умря. Затова цар Ровоам побърза да се качи на колесницата си, за да се скрие в Йерусалим.

Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19 Т ака Израел въстана против Давидовия дом, както е и до днес.

So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

20 А когато целият Израел чу, че Еровоам се завърнал, пратиха да го повикат пред обществото и го направиха цар над целия Израел. Никое друго племе освен Юдовото не последва Давидовия дом.

And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

21 Т огава Ровоам, като дойде в Йерусалим, събра целия Юдов дом и Вениаминовото племе, сто и осемдесет хиляди отбрани войници, за да се бият против Израелевия дом и да възвърнат царството пак на Ровоам, Соломоновия син.

And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

22 Н о Божието слово дойде към Божия човек Семая и каза:

But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

23 Г оворѝ на Ровоам, Соломоновия син, Юдейския цар, и на целия Юдов и Вениаминов дом, и на останалите от народа, следното:

Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

24 Т ака казва Господ: Не излизайте, нито се бийте против братята си, израелтяните. Върнете се всеки у дома си; защото от Мене стана това. И те послушаха Господнето слово, върнаха се и си отидоха, според Господнето слово.

Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the Lord, and returned to depart, according to the word of the Lord.

25 Т огава Еровоам съгради Сихем в хълмистата земя на Ефрем и се засели в него. После излезе оттам и съгради Фануил.

Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

26 А Еровоам каза в сърцето си: Сега царството ще се върне в Давидовия дом;

And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:

27 з ащото, ако този народ отива да принася жертви на Господния дом в Йерусалим, тогава сърцето на този народ ще се обърне пак към господаря им, Юдейския цар Ровоам, а мене ще убият; и ще се върнат при Юдейския цар Ровоам.

if this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

28 З атова царят, като се посъветва, направи две златни телета; и каза на народа: Трудно ви е да възлизате в Йерусалим. Това са боговете ти, Израелю, които те изведоха от Египетската земя.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

29 И единия идол постави във Ветил, а другия постави в Дан.

And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.

30 А това беше грях, защото народът, за да се кланя пред всеки от тях, отиваше чак до Дан.

And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

31 Ц арят направи и капища на високите места и постави жреци от всякакъв народ, които не бяха от Левиевите потомци.

And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

32 Т огава Еровоам установи празник в осмия месец на петнадесетия ден от месеца подобен на празника, който ставаше в Юдея, и принесе жертва на жертвеника. Така направи и във Ветил, като пожертва телетата, които беше направил; и настани във Ветил жреците на високите места, които беше направил.

And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Beth-el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the priests of the high places which he had made.

33 А на петнадесетия ден от осмия месец, в месеца, който беше намислил в сърцето си, принесе жертва на жертвеника, който беше издигнал във Ветил. И установи празник за израелтяните и се възкачи на жертвеника, за да покади.

So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Beth-el the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.
