He who dashes in pieces has come up against you. Keep the fortress! Watch the way! Strengthen your waist! Fortify your power mightily!

2 O Senhor restaurará o esplendor de Jacó; restaurará o esplendor de Israel, embora os saqueadores tenham devastado e destruído as suas videiras.

For Yahweh restores the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel; for the destroyers have destroyed them, and ruined their vine branches.

3 O s escudos e os uniformes dos soldados inimigos são vermelhos. Os seus carros de guerra reluzem quando se alinham para a batalha; agitam-se as lanças de pinho.

The shield of his mighty men is made red. The valiant men are in scarlet. The chariots flash with steel in the day of his preparation, and the pine spears are brandished.

4 O s carros de guerra percorrem loucamente as ruas e se cruzam velozmente pelos quarteirões. Parecem tochas de fogo e se arremessam como relâmpagos.

The chariots rage in the streets. They rush back and forth in the wide ways. Their appearance is like torches. They run like the lightnings.

5 A s suas tropas de elite são convocadas, mas elas vêm tropeçando; correm para a muralha da cidade para formar a linha de proteção.

He summons his picked troops. They stumble on their way. They dash to its wall, and the protective shield is put in place.

6 A s comportas dos canais são abertas, e o palácio desaba.

The gates of the rivers are opened, and the palace is dissolved.

7 E stá decretado: A cidade irá para o exílio; será deportada. As jovens tomadas como escravas batem no peito; seu gemer é como o arrulhar das pombas.

It is decreed: she is uncovered, she is carried away; and her servants moan as with the voice of doves, beating on their breasts.

8 N ínive é como um açude antigo cujas águas estão vazando. “Parem, parem”, eles gritam, mas ninguém sequer olha para trás.

But Nineveh has been from of old like a pool of water, yet they flee away. “Stop! Stop!” they cry, but no one looks back.

9 S aqueiem a prata! Saqueiem o ouro! Sua riqueza não tem fim; está repleta de objetos de valor!

Take the plunder of silver. Take the plunder of gold, for there is no end of the store, the glory of all goodly furniture.

10 A h! Devastação! Destruição! Desolação! Os corações se derretem, os joelhos vacilam, todos os corpos tremem e o rosto de todos empalidece!

She is empty, void, and waste. The heart melts, the knees knock together, their bodies and faces have grown pale.

11 O nde está agora a toca dos leões? O lugar em que alimentavam seus filhotes, para onde iam o leão, a leoa e os leõezinhos, sem nada temer?

Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion’s cubs, and no one made them afraid?

12 O nde está o leão que caçava o bastante para os seus filhotes, estrangulava animais para as suas leoas e enchia as suas covas de presas e as suas tocas de vítimas?

The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with the kill, and his dens with prey.

13 “ Estou contra você”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos; “queimarei no fogo os seus carros de guerra, e a espada matará os seus leões. Eliminarei da terra a sua caça, e a voz dos seus mensageiros jamais será ouvida.”

“Behold, I am against you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions; and I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard.”
