1 T röstet, tröstet mein Volk! spricht euer Gott;

“ Comfort, O comfort My people,” says your God.

2 r edet mit Jerusalem freundlich und predigt ihr, daß ihre Dienstbarkeit ein Ende hat, denn ihre Missetat ist vergeben; denn sie hat Zwiefältiges empfangen von der Hand des HERRN für alle ihre Sünden.

“ Speak kindly to Jerusalem; And call out to her, that her warfare has ended, That her iniquity has been removed, That she has received of the Lord’s hand Double for all her sins.”

3 E s ist eine Stimme eines Predigers in der Wüste: Bereitet dem HERRN den Weg, macht auf dem Gefilde eine ebene Bahn unserm Gott!

A voice is calling, “ Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.

4 A lle Täler sollen erhöht werden und alle Berge und Hügel sollen erniedrigt werden, und was ungleich ist, soll eben, und was höckericht ist, soll schlicht werden;

“Let every valley be lifted up, And every mountain and hill be made low; And let the rough ground become a plain, And the rugged terrain a broad valley;

5 d enn die Herrlichkeit des HERRN soll offenbart werden, und alles Fleisch miteinander wird es sehen; denn des HERRN Mund hat es geredet.

Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, And all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

6 E s spricht eine Stimme: Predige! Und er sprach: Was soll ich predigen? Alles Fleisch ist Gras, und alle seine Güte ist wie eine Blume auf dem Felde.

A voice says, “Call out.” Then he answered, “What shall I call out?” All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.

7 D as Gras verdorrt, die Blume verwelkt; denn des HERRN Geist bläst darein. Ja, das Volk ist das Gras.

The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass.

8 D as Gras verdorrt, die Blume verwelkt; aber das Wort unsres Gottes bleibt ewiglich.

The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

9 Z ion, du Predigerin, steig auf deinen hohen Berg; Jerusalem, du Predigerin, hebe deine Stimme auf mit Macht, hebe auf und fürchte dich nicht; sage den Städten Juda's: Siehe, da ist euer Gott!

Get yourself up on a high mountain, O Zion, bearer of good news, Lift up your voice mightily, O Jerusalem, bearer of good news; Lift it up, do not fear. Say to the cities of Judah, “ Here is your God!”

10 D enn siehe, der HERR HERR kommt gewaltig, und sein Arm wird herrschen. Siehe, sein Lohn ist bei ihm und seine Vergeltung ist vor ihm.

Behold, the Lord God will come with might, With His arm ruling for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him And His recompense before Him.

11 E r wird seine Herde weiden wie ein Hirte; er wird die Lämmer in seine Arme sammeln und in seinem Busen tragen und die Schafmütter führen.

Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.

12 W er mißt die Wasser mit der hohlen Hand und faßt den Himmel mit der Spanne und begreift den Staub der Erde mit einem Dreiling und wägt die Berge mit einem Gewicht und die Hügel mit einer Waage?

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And marked off the heavens by the span, And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, And weighed the mountains in a balance And the hills in a pair of scales?

13 W er unterrichtet den Geist des HERRN, und welcher Ratgeber unterweist ihn?

Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, Or as His counselor has informed Him?

14 W en fragt er um Rat, der ihm Verstand gebe und lehre ihn den Weg des Rechts und lehre ihn die Erkenntnis und unterweise ihn den Weg des Verstandes?

With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge And informed Him of the way of understanding?

15 S iehe, die Heiden sind geachtet wie ein Tropfen, so im Eimer bleibt, und wie ein Scherflein, so in der Waage bleibt. Siehe, die Inseln sind wie ein Stäublein.

Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, And are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust.

16 D er Libanon wäre zu gering zum Feuer und seine Tiere zu gering zum Brandopfer.

Even Lebanon is not enough to burn, Nor its beasts enough for a burnt offering.

17 A lle Heiden sind vor ihm nichts und wie ein Nichtiges und Eitles geachtet.

All the nations are as nothing before Him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless.

18 W em wollt ihr denn Gott nachbilden? Oder was für ein Gleichnis wollt ihr ihm zurichten?

To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare with Him?

19 D er Meister gießt wohl ein Bild, und der Goldschmied übergoldet's und macht silberne Ketten daran.

As for the idol, a craftsman casts it, A goldsmith plates it with gold, And a silversmith fashions chains of silver.

20 D esgleichen wer nur eine arme Gabe vermag, der wählt ein Holz, das nicht fault, und sucht einen klugen Meister dazu, der ein Bild fertige, das beständig sei.

He who is too impoverished for such an offering Selects a tree that does not rot; He seeks out for himself a skillful craftsman To prepare an idol that will not totter.

21 W isset ihr nicht? Hört ihr nicht? Ist's euch nicht vormals verkündigt? Habt ihr's nicht verstanden von Anbeginn der Erde?

Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?

22 E r sitzt auf dem Kreis der Erde, und die darauf wohnen, sind wie Heuschrecken; der den Himmel ausdehnt wie ein dünnes Fell und breitet ihn aus wie eine Hütte, darin man wohnt;

It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.

23 D er die Fürsten zunichte macht und die Richter auf Erden eitel macht,

He it is who reduces rulers to nothing, Who makes the judges of the earth meaningless.

24 a ls wären sie nicht gepflanzt noch gesät und als hätte ihr Stamm keine Wurzel in der Erde, daß sie, wo ein Wind unter sie weht, verdorren und sie ein Windwirbel wie Stoppeln wegführt.

Scarcely have they been planted, Scarcely have they been sown, Scarcely has their stock taken root in the earth, But He merely blows on them, and they wither, And the storm carries them away like stubble.

25 W em wollt ihr denn mich nachbilden, dem ich gleich sei? spricht der Heilige.

“ To whom then will you liken Me That I would be his equal?” says the Holy One.

26 H ebet eure Augen in die Höhe und sehet! Wer hat solche Dinge geschaffen und führt ihr Heer bei der Zahl heraus? Er ruft sie alle mit Namen; sein Vermögen und seine Kraft ist so groß, daß es nicht an einem fehlen kann.

Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing.

27 W arum sprichst du denn, Jakob, und du, Israel, sagst: Mein Weg ist dem HERRN verborgen, und mein Recht geht vor meinem Gott vorüber?

Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, And the justice due me escapes the notice of my God”?

28 W eißt du nicht? hast du nicht gehört? Der HERR, der ewige Gott, der die Enden der Erde geschaffen hat, wird nicht müde noch matt; sein Verstand ist unausforschlich.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable.

29 E r gibt den Müden Kraft, und Stärke genug dem Unvermögenden.

He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power.

30 D ie Knaben werden müde und matt, und die Jünglinge fallen;

Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly,

31 a ber die auf den HERRN harren, kriegen neue Kraft, daß sie auffahren mit Flügeln wie Adler, daß sie laufen und nicht matt werden, daß sie wandeln und nicht müde werden.

Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
