1 P rovérbios de Salomão: O filho sábio dá alegria ao pai; o filho tolo dá tristeza à mãe.

The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

2 O s tesouros de origem desonesta não servem para nada, mas a retidão livra da morte.

Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

3 O Senhor não deixa o justo passar fome, mas frustra a ambição dos ímpios.

The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

4 A s mãos preguiçosas empobrecem o homem, porém as mãos diligentes lhe trazem riqueza.

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

5 A quele que faz a colheita no verão é filho sensato, mas aquele que dorme durante a ceifa é filho que causa vergonha.

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

6 A s bênçãos coroam a cabeça dos justos, mas a boca dos ímpios abriga a violência.

Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

7 A memória deixada pelos justos será uma bênção, mas o nome dos ímpios apodrecerá.

The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

8 O s sábios de coração aceitam mandamentos, mas a boca do insensato o leva à ruína.

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

9 Q uem anda com integridade anda com segurança, mas quem segue veredas tortuosas será descoberto.

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

10 A quele que pisca maliciosamente causa tristeza, e a boca do insensato o leva à ruína.

He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

11 A boca do justo é fonte de vida, mas a boca dos ímpios abriga a violência.

The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

12 O ódio provoca dissensão, mas o amor cobre todos os pecados.

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

13 A sabedoria está nos lábios dos que têm discernimento, mas a vara é para as costas daquele que não tem juízo.

In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

14 O s sábios acumulam conhecimento, mas a boca do insensato é um convite à ruína.

Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

15 A riqueza dos ricos é a sua cidade fortificada, mas a pobreza é a ruína dos pobres.

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

16 O salário do justo lhe traz vida, mas a renda do ímpio lhe traz castigo.

The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

17 Q uem acolhe a disciplina mostra o caminho da vida, mas quem ignora a repreensão desencaminha outros.

He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

18 Q uem esconde o ódio tem lábios mentirosos, e quem espalha calúnia é tolo.

He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

19 Q uando são muitas as palavras, o pecado está presente, mas quem controla a língua é sensato.

In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

20 A língua dos justos é prata escolhida, mas o coração dos ímpios quase não tem valor.

The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

21 A s palavras dos justos dão sustento a muitos, mas os insensatos morrem por falta de juízo.

The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

22 A bênção do Senhor traz riqueza, e não inclui dor alguma.

The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

23 O tolo encontra prazer na má conduta, mas o homem cheio de entendimento deleita-se na sabedoria.

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

24 O que o ímpio teme lhe acontecerá; o que os justos desejam lhes será concedido.

The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

25 P assada a tempestade, o ímpio já não existe, mas o justo permanece firme para sempre.

As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

26 C omo o vinagre para os dentes e a fumaça para os olhos, assim é o preguiçoso para aqueles que o enviam.

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

27 O temor do Senhor prolonga a vida, mas a vida do ímpio é abreviada.

The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

28 O que o justo almeja redunda em alegria, mas as esperanças dos ímpios dão em nada.

The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

29 O caminho do Senhor é o refúgio dos íntegros, mas é a ruína dos que praticam o mal.

The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

30 O s justos jamais serão desarraigados, mas os ímpios pouco duram na terra.

The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

31 A boca do justo produz sabedoria, mas a língua perversa será extirpada.

The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

32 O s lábios do justo sabem o que é próprio, mas a boca dos ímpios só conhece a perversidade.

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
