1 D igo porém que, enquanto o herdeiro é menor de idade, em nada difere de um escravo, embora seja dono de tudo.

Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;

2 N o entanto, ele está sujeito a guardiães e administradores até o tempo determinado por seu pai.

but is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

3 A ssim também nós, quando éramos menores, estávamos escravizados aos princípios elementares do mundo.

Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

4 M as, quando chegou a plenitude do tempo, Deus enviou seu Filho, nascido de mulher, nascido debaixo da Lei,

but when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5 a fim de redimir os que estavam sob a Lei, para que recebêssemos a adoção de filhos.

to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6 E , porque vocês são filhos, Deus enviou o Espírito de seu Filho ao coração de vocês, e ele clama: “Aba, Pai”.

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

7 A ssim, você já não é mais escravo, mas filho; e, por ser filho, Deus também o tornou herdeiro. A Preocupação de Paulo com os Gálatas

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

8 A ntes, quando vocês não conheciam a Deus, eram escravos daqueles que, por natureza, não são deuses.

Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

9 M as agora, conhecendo a Deus, ou melhor, sendo por ele conhecidos, como é que estão voltando àqueles mesmos princípios elementares, fracos e sem poder? Querem ser escravizados por eles outra vez?

But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

10 V ocês estão observando dias especiais, meses, ocasiões específicas e anos!

Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

11 T emo que os meus esforços por vocês tenham sido inúteis.

I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

12 E u lhes suplico, irmãos, que se tornem como eu, pois eu me tornei como vocês. Em nada vocês me ofenderam;

Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.

13 c omo sabem, foi por causa de uma doença que lhes preguei o evangelho pela primeira vez.

Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.

14 E mbora a minha doença lhes tenha sido uma provação, vocês não me trataram com desprezo ou desdém; ao contrário, receberam-me como se eu fosse um anjo de Deus, como o próprio Cristo Jesus.

And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

15 Q ue aconteceu com a alegria de vocês? Tenho certeza que, se fosse possível, vocês teriam arrancado os próprios olhos para dá-los a mim.

Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.

16 T ornei-me inimigo de vocês por lhes dizer a verdade?

Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

17 O s que fazem tanto esforço para agradá-los não agem bem, mas querem isolá-los a fim de que vocês também mostrem zelo por eles.

They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.

18 É bom sempre ser zeloso pelo bem, e não apenas quando estou presente.

But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.

19 M eus filhos, novamente estou sofrendo dores de parto por sua causa, até que Cristo seja formado em vocês.

My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

20 E u gostaria de estar com vocês agora e mudar o meu tom de voz, pois estou perplexo quanto a vocês. Sara e Hagar

I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.

21 D igam-me vocês, os que querem estar debaixo da Lei: Acaso vocês não ouvem a Lei?

Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?

22 P ois está escrito que Abraão teve dois filhos, um da escrava e outro da livre.

For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.

23 O filho da escrava nasceu de modo natural, mas o filho da livre nasceu mediante promessa.

But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.

24 I sto é usado aqui como uma ilustração; estas mulheres representam duas alianças. Uma aliança procede do monte Sinai e gera filhos para a escravidão: esta é Hagar.

Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

25 H agar representa o monte Sinai, na Arábia, e corresponde à atual cidade de Jerusalém, que está escravizada com os seus filhos.

For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

26 M as a Jerusalém do alto é livre, e é a nossa mãe.

But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

27 P ois está escrito: “Regozije-se, ó estéril, você que nunca teve um filho; grite de alegria, você que nunca esteve em trabalho de parto; porque mais são os filhos da mulher abandonada do que os daquela que tem marido”.

For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

28 V ocês, irmãos, são filhos da promessa, como Isaque.

Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

29 N aquele tempo, o filho nascido de modo natural perseguiu o filho nascido segundo o Espírito. O mesmo acontece agora.

But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.

30 M as o que diz a Escritura? “Mande embora a escrava e o seu filho, porque o filho da escrava jamais será herdeiro com o filho da livre”.

Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.

31 P ortanto, irmãos, não somos filhos da escrava, mas da livre.

So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
