1 O uçam esta palavra que o Senhor falou contra vocês, ó israelitas; contra toda esta família que tirei do Egito:

Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

2 “ Escolhi apenas vocês de todas as famílias da terra; por isso eu os castigarei por todas as suas maldades”.

You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

3 D uas pessoas andarão juntas se não estiverem de acordo ?

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

4 O leão ruge na floresta se não apanhou presa alguma? O leão novo ruge em sua toca se nada caçou?

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

5 C ai o pássaro numa armadilha que não foi armada? Será que a armadilha se desarma se nada foi apanhado?

Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?

6 Q uando a trombeta toca na cidade, o povo não treme? Ocorre alguma desgraça na cidade sem que o Senhor a tenha mandado?

Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?

7 C ertamente o Senhor, o Soberano, não faz coisa alguma sem revelar o seu plano aos seus servos, os profetas.

Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8 O leão rugiu, quem não temerá? O Senhor, o Soberano, falou, quem não profetizará?

The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

9 P roclamem nos palácios de Asdode e do Egito: “Reúnam-se nos montes de Samaria para verem o grande tumulto que há ali, e a opressão no meio do seu povo”.

Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.

10 “ Eles não sabem agir com retidão”, declara o Senhor, “eles, que acumulam em seus palácios o que roubaram e saquearam”.

For they know not to do right, saith the Lord, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

11 P ortanto, assim diz o Senhor, o Soberano: “Um inimigo cercará o país. Ele derrubará as suas fortalezas e saqueará os seus palácios”.

Therefore thus saith the Lord God; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.

12 A ssim diz o Senhor: “Assim como o pastor livra a ovelha, arrancando da boca do leão só dois ossos da perna ou um pedaço da orelha, assim serão arrancados os israelitas de Samaria, com a ponta de uma cama e um pedaço de sofá.

Thus saith the Lord; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.

13 “ Ouçam isto e testemunhem contra a descendência de Jacó”, declara o Senhor, o Soberano, o Deus dos Exércitos.

Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord God, the God of hosts,

14 “ No dia em que eu castigar Israel por causa dos seus pecados, destruirei os altares de Betel; as pontas do altar serão cortadas e cairão no chão.

that in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Beth-el: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

15 D errubarei a casa de inverno junto com a casa de verão; as casas enfeitadas de marfim serão destruídas, e as mansões desaparecerão”, declara o Senhor.

And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the Lord.
