1 S e o Senhor não estivesse do nosso lado; que Israel o repita:

2 S e o Senhor não estivesse do nosso lado quando os inimigos nos atacaram,

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

3 e les já nos teriam engolido vivos, quando se enfureceram contra nós;

then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

4 a s águas nos teriam arrastado e as torrentes nos teriam afogado;

then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

5 s im, as águas violentas nos teriam afogado!

then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

6 B endito seja o Senhor, que não nos entregou para sermos dilacerados pelos dentes deles.

Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

7 C omo um pássaro escapamos da armadilha do caçador; a armadilha foi quebrada, e nós escapamos.

Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

8 O nosso socorro está no nome do Senhor, que fez os céus e a terra.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
