1 S alva-nos, Senhor! Já não há quem seja fiel; já não se confia em ninguém entre os homens.

Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

2 C ada um mente ao seu próximo; seus lábios bajuladores falam com segundas intenções.

They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

3 Q ue o Senhor corte todos os lábios bajuladores e a língua arrogante

The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:

4 d os que dizem: “Venceremos graças à nossa língua; somos donos dos nossos lábios! Quem é senhor sobre nós?”

who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

5 “ Por causa da opressão do necessitado e do gemido do pobre, agora me levantarei”, diz o Senhor. “Eu lhes darei a segurança que tanto anseiam.”

For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.

6 A s palavras do Senhor são puras, são como prata purificada num forno, sete vezes refinada.

The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

7 S enhor, tu nos guardarás seguros, e dessa gente nos protegerás para sempre.

Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

8 O s ímpios andam altivos por toda parte, quando a corrupção é exaltada entre os homens.

The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
