1 D epois que os filisteus tomaram a arca de Deus, eles a levaram de Ebenézer para Asdode

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod.

2 e a colocaram dentro do templo de Dagom, ao lado de sua estátua.

When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

3 Q uando o povo de Asdode se levantou na madrugada do dia seguinte, lá estava Dagom caído, rosto em terra, diante da arca do Senhor! Eles levantaram Dagom e o colocaram de volta em seu lugar.

And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

4 M as, na manhã seguinte, quando se levantaram de madrugada, lá estava Dagom caído, rosto em terra, diante da arca do Senhor! Sua cabeça e mãos tinham sido quebradas e estavam sobre a soleira; só o seu corpo ficou no lugar.

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

5 P or isso, até hoje, os sacerdotes de Dagom e todos os que entram em seu templo, em Asdode, não pisam na soleira.

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

6 D epois disso a mão do Senhor pesou sobre o povo de Asdode e dos arredores, trazendo devastação sobre eles e afligindo-os com tumores.

But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

7 Q uando os homens de Asdode viram o que estava acontecendo, disseram: “A arca do deus de Israel não deve ficar aqui conosco, pois a mão dele pesa sobre nós e sobre nosso deus Dagom”.

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

8 E ntão reuniram todos os governantes dos filisteus e lhes perguntaram: “O que faremos com a arca do deus de Israel?” Eles responderam: “Levem a arca do deus de Israel para Gate”. E então levaram a arca do Deus de Israel.

They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

9 M as, quando a arca chegou, a mão do Senhor castigou aquela cidade e lhe trouxe grande pânico. Ele afligiu o povo da cidade, jovens e velhos, com uma epidemia de tumores.

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

10 E ntão enviaram a arca de Deus para Ecrom. Quando a arca de Deus estava entrando na cidade de Ecrom, o povo começou a gritar: “Eles trouxeram a arca do deus de Israel para cá a fim de matar a nós e a nosso povo”.

Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

11 E ntão reuniram todos os governantes dos filisteus e disseram: “Levem embora a arca do deus de Israel; que ela volte ao seu lugar; caso contrário ela matará a nós e a nosso povo”. Pois havia pânico mortal em toda a cidade; a mão de Deus pesava muito sobre ela.

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

12 A queles que não morreram foram afligidos com tumores, e o clamor da cidade subiu até o céu.

And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
