1 H ijo mío, si recibieres mis palabras, Y mis mandamientos guardares dentro de ti,

My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you,

2 H aciendo estar atento tu oído a la sabiduría; Si inclinares tu corazón a la prudencia,

So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding;

3 S i clamares a la inteligencia, Y a la prudencia dieres tu voz;

Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding,

4 S i como a la plata la buscares, Y la escudriñares como a tesoros,

If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures;

5 E ntonces entenderás el temor de Jehová, Y hallarás el conocimiento de Dios.

Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.

6 P orque Jehová da la sabiduría, Y de su boca viene el conocimiento y la inteligencia.

For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

7 E l provee de sana sabiduría a los rectos; Es escudo a los que caminan rectamente.

He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;

8 E s el que guarda las veredas del juicio, Y preserva el camino de sus santos.

He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints.

9 E ntonces entenderás justicia, juicio Y equidad, y todo buen camino.

Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path.

10 C uando la sabiduría entrare en tu corazón, Y la ciencia fuere grata a tu alma,

When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,

11 L a discreción te guardará; Te preservará la inteligencia,

Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you,

12 P ara librarte del mal camino, De los hombres que hablan perversidades,

To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things,

13 Q ue dejan los caminos derechos, Para andar por sendas tenebrosas;

From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness;

14 Q ue se alegran haciendo el mal, Que se huelgan en las perversidades del vicio;

Who rejoice in doing evil, And delight in the perversity of the wicked;

15 C uyas veredas son torcidas, Y torcidos sus caminos.

Whose ways are crooked, And who are devious in their paths;

16 S erás librado de la mujer extraña, De la ajena que halaga con sus palabras,

To deliver you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words,

17 L a cual abandona al compañero de su juventud, Y se olvida del pacto de su Dios.

Who forsakes the companion of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God.

18 P or lo cual su casa está inclinada a la muerte, Y sus veredas hacia los muertos;

For her house leads down to death, And her paths to the dead;

19 T odos los que a ella se lleguen, no volverán, Ni seguirán otra vez los senderos de la vida.

None who go to her return, Nor do they regain the paths of life—

20 A sí andarás por el camino de los buenos, Y seguirás las veredas de los justos;

So you may walk in the way of goodness, And keep to the paths of righteousness.

21 P orque los rectos habitarán la tierra, Y los perfectos permanecerán en ella,

For the upright will dwell in the land, And the blameless will remain in it;

22 M as los impíos serán cortados de la tierra, Y los prevaricadores serán de ella desarraigados.

But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.
