1 A conteció en el año undécimo, en el mes tercero, el día primero del mes, que vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

Now it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 H ijo de hombre, di a Faraón rey de Egipto, y a su pueblo: ¿A quién te comparaste en tu grandeza?

“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his multitude: ‘Whom are you like in your greatness?

3 H e aquí era el asirio cedro en el Líbano, de hermosas ramas, de frondoso ramaje y de grande altura, y su copa estaba entre densas ramas.

Indeed Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon, With fine branches that shaded the forest, And of high stature; And its top was among the thick boughs.

4 L as aguas lo hicieron crecer, lo encumbró el abismo; sus ríos corrían alrededor de su pie, y a todos los árboles del campo enviaba sus corrientes.

The waters made it grow; Underground waters gave it height, With their rivers running around the place where it was planted, And sent out rivulets to all the trees of the field.

5 P or tanto, se encumbró su altura sobre todos los árboles del campo, y se multiplicaron sus ramas, y a causa de las muchas aguas se alargó su ramaje que había echado.

‘Therefore its height was exalted above all the trees of the field; Its boughs were multiplied, And its branches became long because of the abundance of water, As it sent them out.

6 E n sus ramas hacían nido todas las aves del cielo, y debajo de su ramaje parían todas las bestias del campo, y a su sombra habitaban muchas naciones.

All the birds of the heavens made their nests in its boughs; Under its branches all the beasts of the field brought forth their young; And in its shadow all great nations made their home.

7 S e hizo, pues, hermoso en su grandeza con la extensión de sus ramas; porque su raíz estaba junto a muchas aguas.

‘Thus it was beautiful in greatness and in the length of its branches, Because its roots reached to abundant waters.

8 L os cedros no lo cubrieron en el huerto de Dios; las hayas no fueron semejantes a sus ramas, ni los castaños fueron semejantes a su ramaje; ningún árbol en el huerto de Dios fue semejante a él en su hermosura.

The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it; The fir trees were not like its boughs, And the chestnut trees were not like its branches; No tree in the garden of God was like it in beauty.

9 L o hice hermoso con la multitud de sus ramas; y todos los árboles del Edén, que estaban en el huerto de Dios, tuvieron de él envidia.

I made it beautiful with a multitude of branches, So that all the trees of Eden envied it, That were in the garden of God.’

10 P or tanto, así dijo Jehová el Señor: Ya que por ser encumbrado en altura, y haber levantado su cumbre entre densas ramas, su corazón se elevó con su altura,

“Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Because you have increased in height, and it set its top among the thick boughs, and its heart was lifted up in its height,

11 y o lo entregaré en manos del poderoso de las naciones, que de cierto le tratará según su maldad. Yo lo he desechado.

therefore I will deliver it into the hand of the mighty one of the nations, and he shall surely deal with it; I have driven it out for its wickedness.

12 Y lo destruirán extranjeros, los poderosos de las naciones, y lo derribarán; sus ramas caerán sobre los montes y por todos los valles, y por todos los arroyos de la tierra será quebrado su ramaje; y se irán de su sombra todos los pueblos de la tierra, y lo dejarán.

And aliens, the most terrible of the nations, have cut it down and left it; its branches have fallen on the mountains and in all the valleys; its boughs lie broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the peoples of the earth have gone from under its shadow and left it.

13 S obre su ruina habitarán todas las aves del cielo, y sobre sus ramas estarán todas las bestias del campo,

‘On its ruin will remain all the birds of the heavens, And all the beasts of the field will come to its branches—

14 p ara que no se exalten en su altura todos los árboles que crecen junto a las aguas, ni levanten su copa entre la espesura, ni confíen en su altura todos los que beben aguas; porque todos están destinados a muerte, a lo profundo de la tierra, entre los hijos de los hombres, con los que descienden a la fosa.

‘So that no trees by the waters may ever again exalt themselves for their height, nor set their tops among the thick boughs, that no tree which drinks water may ever be high enough to reach up to them. ‘For they have all been delivered to death, To the depths of the earth, Among the children of men who go down to the Pit.’

15 A sí ha dicho Jehová el Señor: El día que descendió al Seol, hice hacer luto, hice cubrir por él el abismo, y detuve sus ríos, y las muchas aguas fueron detenidas; al Líbano cubrí de tinieblas por él, y todos los árboles del campo se desmayaron.

“Thus says the Lord God: ‘In the day when it went down to hell, I caused mourning. I covered the deep because of it. I restrained its rivers, and the great waters were held back. I caused Lebanon to mourn for it, and all the trees of the field wilted because of it.

16 D el estruendo de su caída hice temblar a las naciones, cuando las hice descender al Seol con todos los que descienden a la sepultura; y todos los árboles escogidos del Edén, y los mejores del Líbano, todos los que beben aguas, fueron consolados en lo profundo de la tierra.

I made the nations shake at the sound of its fall, when I cast it down to hell together with those who descend into the Pit; and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the depths of the earth.

17 T ambién ellos descendieron con él al Seol, con los muertos a espada, los que fueron su brazo, los que estuvieron a su sombra en medio de las naciones.

They also went down to hell with it, with those slain by the sword; and those who were its strong arm dwelt in its shadows among the nations.

18 ¿ A quién te has comparado así en gloria y en grandeza entre los árboles del Edén? Pues derribado serás con los árboles del Edén en lo profundo de la tierra; entre los incircuncisos yacerás, con los muertos a espada. Este es Faraón y todo su pueblo, dice Jehová el Señor.

‘To which of the trees in Eden will you then be likened in glory and greatness? Yet you shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the depths of the earth; you shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude,’ says the Lord God.”
