1 A scultaţi Cuvîntul Domnului, copiii lui Israel! Căci Domnul are o judecată cu locuitorii ţării, pentru că nu este adevăr, nu este îndurare, nu este cunoştinţă de Dumnezeu în ţară.

Hear Yahweh’s word, you children of Israel; for Yahweh has a charge against the inhabitants of the land: “Indeed there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.

2 F iecare jură strîmb şi minte, ucide, fură, şi prea curveşte; năpăstuieşte şi face omoruri după omoruri.

There is cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed.

3 D e aceea, ţara se va jăli, toţi ceice o locuiesc vor tînji, împreună cu fiarele cîmpului şi păsările cerului; chiar şi peştii mării vor pieri.

Therefore the land will mourn, and everyone who dwells therein will waste away. all living things in her, even the animals of the field and the birds of the sky; yes, the fish of the sea also die.

4 D ar nimeni să nu certe pe altul, nimeni să nu mustre pe altul, căci poporul tău este ca ceice se ceartă cu preoţii.

“Yet let no man bring a charge, neither let any man accuse; For your people are like those who bring charges against a priest.

5 T e vei poticni ziua, proorocul se va poticni şi el împreună cu tine noaptea, şi pe mama ta o voi nimici.

You will stumble in the day, and the prophet will also stumble with you in the night; and I will destroy your mother.

6 P oporul Meu piere din lipsă de cunoştinţă. Fiindcă ai lepădat cunoştinţa, şi Eu te voi lepăda, şi nu-Mi vei mai fi preot. Fiindcă ai uitat Legea Dumnezeului tău, voi uita şi Eu pe copiii tăi!

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to me. Because you have forgotten your God’s law, I will also forget your children.

7 C u cît s'au înmulţit, cu atît au păcătuit împotriva Mea. De aceea, le voi preface slava în ocară.

As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me. I will change their glory into shame.

8 E i se hrănesc din jertfele pentru păcatele poporului Meu, şi sînt lacomi de nelegiuirile lui.

They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.

9 D ar şi preotului i se va întîmpla ca şi poporului; îl voi pedepsi după umbletele lui, şi -i voi răsplăti după faptele lui.

It will be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will repay them for their deeds.

10 V or mînca şi tot nu se vor sătura, vor curvi şi tot nu se vor înmulţi, pentrucă au părăsit pe Domnul şi poruncile Lui.

They will eat, and not have enough. They will play the prostitute, and will not increase; because they have abandoned giving to Yahweh.

11 C urvia, vinul şi mustul iau minţile omului.

Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding.

12 P oporul Meu îşi întreabă lemnul lui, şi toiagul lui îi prooroceşte; căci duhul curviei îi duce în rătăcire, şi sînt necredincioşi Dumnezeului lor.

My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God.

13 A duc jertfe pe vîrful munţilor, ard tămîie pe dealuri, supt stejari, plopi şi terebinţi, a căror umbră este plăcută. De aceea, fetele voastre curvesc, şi nurorile voastre sînt prea curve.

They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the prostitute, and your brides commit adultery.

14 N u pot pedepsi pe fetele voastre pentrucă sînt curve, nici pe nurorile voastre pentru că sînt preacurve, căci ei înşişi se duc la oparte cu nişte curve, şi jertfesc împreună cu desfrînatele din temple. Poporul fără minte aleargă spre pieire.

I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes; so the people without understanding will come to ruin.

15 D acă tu curveşti, Israele, măcar Iuda să nu se facă vinovat. Nu vă duceţi măcar la Ghilgal, nu vă suiţi la Bet-Aven, şi nu juraţi zicînd:,, Viu este Domnul!``

“Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, yet don’t let Judah offend; and don’t come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beth Aven, nor swear, ‘As Yahweh lives.’

16 P entrucă Israel dă din picioare ca o mînzată neîmblînzită; şi să -l mai pască Domnul acum ca pe un miel în imaşuri întinse!

For Israel has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. Then how will Yahweh feed them like a lamb in a meadow.

17 E fraim s'a lipit de idoli: lasă -l în pace!

Ephraim is joined to idols. Leave him alone!

18 A bea au încetat să bea, şi se dedau la curvie; cîrmuitorii lor sînt lacomi, da, sînt lacomi după ruşine!

Their drink has become sour. They play the prostitute continually. Her rulers dearly love their shameful way.

19 V întul îi va strînge cu aripile lui, şi vor fi daţi de ruşine cu altarele lor!

The wind has wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be disappointed because of their sacrifices.
