1 P reoţii, Leviţii, şi toată seminţia lui Levi, să n'aibă nici parte de moşie, nici moştenire în Israel; să se hrănească din jertfele mistuite de foc în cinstea Domnului şi din darurile aduse Domnului.

The priests the Levites, all the tribe of Levi, shall have no portion nor inheritance with Israel. They shall eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire and his portion.

2 S ă n'aibă moştenire în mijlocul fraţilor lor: Domnul va fi moştenirea lor, cum le -a spus.

They shall have no inheritance among their brothers. Yahweh is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them.

3 I ată care va fi dreptul preoţilor dela popor: cei ce vor aduce o jertfă, fie bou, fie miel, să dea preotului spata, fălcile şi pîntecele.

This shall be the priests’ due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give to the priest the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the inner parts.

4 S ă -i dai cele dintîi roade din grîul tău, din mustul tău şi din untdelemnul tău, şi pîrga din lîna oilor tale;

The first fruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him.

5 c ăci pe el l -a ales Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, dintre toate seminţiile, ca să facă slujba în Numele Domnului, el şi fiii lui, în toate zilele.

For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes, to stand to minister in Yahweh’s name, him and his sons for ever.

6 C înd va pleca un Levit din una din cetăţile tale, din locul unde locuieşte el în Israel, ca să se ducă, după deplina dorinţă a sufletului său, în locul pe care -l va alege Domnul,

If a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel, where he lives as a foreigner, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which Yahweh shall choose;

7 ş i va face slujbă în Numele Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, ca toţi fraţii lui Leviţi cari stau înaintea Domnului:

then he shall minister in the name of Yahweh his God, as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahweh.

8 v a primi ca hrană o parte la fel cu a lor, şi, pe lîngă ea, se va bucura şi de veniturile ieşite din vînzarea averii lui părinteşti.

They shall have like portions to eat, in addition to that which comes from the sale of his family possessions.

9 D upăce vei intra în ţara pe care ţi -o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, să nu te înveţi să faci după urîciunile neamurilor acelora.

When you have come into the land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of those nations.

10 S ă nu fie la tine nimeni care să-şi treacă pe fiul sau pe fiica lui prin foc, nimeni care să aibă meşteşugul de ghicitor, de cititor în stele, de vestitor al viitorului, de vrăjitor,

There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,

11 d e descîntător, nimeni care să întrebe pe cei ce cheamă duhurile sau dau cu ghiocul, nimeni care să întrebe pe morţi.

or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12 C ăci oricine face aceste lucruri este o urîciune înaintea Domnului; şi din pricina acestor lucruri va izgoni Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, pe aceste neamuri dinaintea ta.

For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. Because of these abominations, Yahweh your God drives them out from before you.

13 T u să te ţii în totul totului tot, numai de Domnul Dumnezeul tău.

You shall be perfect with Yahweh your God.

14 C ăci neamurile acelea pe cari le vei izgoni, ascultă de cei ce citesc în stele şi de ghicitori; dar ţie, Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, nu-ţi îngăduie lucrul acesta.

For these nations that you shall dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery and to diviners; but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed you so to do.

15 D omnul, Dumnezeul tău, îţi va ridica din mijlocul tău, dintre fraţii tăi, un prooroc ca mine: să ascultaţi de el!

Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from among you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.

16 A stfel el va răspunde la cererea pe care ai făcut -o Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, la Horeb, în ziua adunării poporului, cînd ziceai:,, Să nu mai aud glasul Domnului, Dumnezeului meu, şi să nu mai văd acest foc mare, ca să nu mor.``

This is according to all that you desired of Yahweh your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, “Let me not hear again Yahweh my God’s voice, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die.”

17 A tunci Domnul mi -a zis:,, Ce au zis ei, este bine.

Yahweh said to me, “They have well said that which they have spoken.

18 L e voi ridica din mijlocul fraţilor lor un prooroc ca tine, voi pune cuvintele Mele în gura lui, şi el le va spune tot ce -i voi porunci Eu.

I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you. I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.

19 Ş i dacă cineva nu va asculta de cuvintele Mele, pe cari le va spune el în Numele Meu, Eu îi voi cere socoteală.

It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

20 D ar proorocul care va avea îndrăsneala să spună în Numele Meu un cuvînt pe care nu -i voi porunci să -l spună, sau care va vorbi în numele altor dumnezei, proorocul acela să fie pedepsit cu moartea.``

But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.”

21 P oate că vei zice în inima ta:,, Cum vom cunoaşte cuvîntul pe care nu -l va spune Domnul?``

You may say in your heart, “How shall we know the word which Yahweh has not spoken?”

22 C înd ceeace va spune proorocul acela în Numele Domnului nu va avea loc şi nu se va întîmpla, va fi un cuvînt pe care nu l -a spus Domnul. Proorocul acela l -a spus din îndrăsneală: să n'ai teamă de el.

When a prophet speaks in Yahweh’s name, if the thing doesn’t follow, nor happen, that is the thing which Yahweh has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You shall not be afraid of him.
