1 F igli, ubbidite {nel Signore} ai vostri genitori, perché ciò è giusto.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is just and right.

2 O nora tuo padre e tua madre (questo è il primo comandamento con promessa)

Honor (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother—this is the first commandment with a promise—

3 a ffinché tu sia felice e abbia lunga vita sulla terra.

That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.

4 E voi, padri, non irritate i vostri figli, ma allevateli nella disciplina e nell’istruzione del Signore. Servi e padroni

Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger, but rear them in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord.

5 S ervi, ubbidite ai vostri padroni secondo la carne con timore e tremore, nella semplicità del vostro cuore, come a Cristo,

Servants (slaves), be obedient to those who are your physical masters, having respect for them and eager concern to please them, in singleness of motive and with all your heart, as to Christ —

6 n on servendo per essere visti, come per piacere agli uomini, ma come servi di Cristo, facendo la volontà di Dio di buon animo,

Not in the way of eye-service and only to please men, but as servants (slaves) of Christ, doing the will of God heartily and with your whole soul;

7 s ervendo con benevolenza, come se serviste il Signore e non gli uomini,

Rendering service readily with goodwill, as to the Lord and not to men,

8 s apendo che ognuno, quando abbia fatto qualche bene, ne riceverà la ricompensa dal Signore, servo o libero che sia.

Knowing that for whatever good anyone does, he will receive his reward from the Lord, whether he is slave or free.

9 V oi, padroni, agite allo stesso modo verso di loro astenendovi dalle minacce, sapendo che il Signore vostro e loro è nel cielo e che presso di lui non c’è favoritismo. L’armatura del cristiano

You masters, act on the same toward them and give up threatening and using violent and abusive words, knowing that He Who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no respect of persons (no partiality) with Him.

10 D el resto, fortificatevi nel Signore e nella forza della sua potenza.

In conclusion, be strong in the Lord; draw your strength from Him.

11 R ivestitevi della completa armatura di Dio, affinché possiate star saldi contro le insidie del diavolo;

Put on God’s whole armor, that you may be able successfully to stand up against the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

12 i l nostro combattimento infatti non è contro sangue e carne, ma contro i principati, contro le potenze, contro i dominatori di questo mondo di tenebre, contro le forze spirituali della malvagità, che sono nei luoghi celesti.

For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood, but against the despotisms, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

13 P erciò prendete la completa armatura di Dio, affinché possiate resistere nel giorno malvagio e restare in piedi dopo aver compiuto tutto il vostro dovere.

Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day, and, having done all, to stand.

14 S tate dunque saldi: prendete la verità per cintura dei vostri fianchi; rivestitevi della corazza della giustizia;

Stand therefore, having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,

15 m ettete come calzature ai vostri piedi lo zelo dato dal vangelo della pace;

And having shod your feet in preparation '> firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.

16 p rendete oltre a tutto ciò lo scudo della fede, con il quale potrete spegnere tutti i dardi infocati del maligno.

Lift up over all the shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked.

17 P rendete anche l’elmo della salvezza e la spada dello Spirito, che è la parola di Dio;

And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.

18 p regate in ogni tempo, per mezzo dello Spirito, con ogni preghiera e supplica; vegliate a questo scopo con ogni perseveranza. Pregate per tutti i santi,

Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God’s consecrated people).

19 e anche per me, affinché mi sia dato di parlare apertamente per far conoscere con franchezza il mistero del vangelo,

And also for me, that utterance may be given me, that I may open my mouth to proclaim boldly the mystery of the good news (the Gospel),

20 p er il quale sono ambasciatore in catene, perché lo annunci francamente, come conviene che ne parli. Saluti

For which I am an ambassador in a coupling chain that I may declare it boldly and courageously, as I ought to do.

21 A ffinché anche voi sappiate come sto e quello che faccio, Tichico, il caro fratello e fedele servitore nel Signore, vi informerà di tutto.

Now that you may know how I am and what I am doing, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will tell you everything.

22 V e l’ho mandato apposta perché abbiate conoscenza del nostro stato ed egli consoli i vostri cuori.

I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may console and cheer and encourage and strengthen your hearts.

23 P ace ai fratelli e amore con fede, da Dio Padre e dal Signore Gesù Cristo.

Peace be to the brethren, and love joined with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

24 L a grazia sia con tutti quelli che amano il nostro Signore Gesù Cristo con amore inalterabile.

Grace (God’s undeserved favor) be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with undying and incorruptible. Amen (so let it be).
