1 G esù, convocati i dodici, diede loro potere e autorità su tutti i demòni e di guarire le malattie.

Then Jesus called together the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases,

2 L i mandò ad annunciare il regno di Dio e a guarire {i malati}.

And He sent them out to announce and preach the kingdom of God and to bring healing.

3 E disse loro: «Non prendete nulla per il viaggio: né bastone, né sacca, né pane, né denaro, e non abbiate tunica di ricambio.

And He said to them, Do not take anything for your journey—neither walking stick, nor wallet, nor food of any kind, nor money, and do not have two undergarments (tunics).

4 I n qualunque casa entrerete, rimanete lì e da lì ripartite.

And whatever house you enter, stay there until you go away.

5 Q uanto a quelli che non vi riceveranno, uscendo da quella città, scuotete la polvere dai vostri piedi, in testimonianza contro di loro».

And wherever they do not receive and accept and welcome you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet, as a testimony against them.

6 E d essi, partiti, andavano di villaggio in villaggio, evangelizzando e operando guarigioni dappertutto. Perplessità di Erode

And departing, they went about from village to village, preaching the Gospel and restoring the afflicted to health everywhere.

7 E rode il tetrarca udì parlare di tutti quei fatti; ne era perplesso, perché alcuni dicevano: «Giovanni è risuscitato dai morti»,

Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was being done by, and he was perplexed and troubled, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead,

8 a ltri dicevano: «È apparso Elia» e altri: «È risuscitato uno degli antichi profeti».

And by others that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had come back to life.

9 M a Erode disse: «Giovanni l’ho fatto decapitare; chi è dunque costui del quale sento dire queste cose?» E cercava di vederlo. Moltiplicazione dei pani per cinquemila uomini

But Herod said, John I beheaded; but Who is this about Whom I such things by hearsay? And he sought to see Him.

10 G li apostoli ritornarono e raccontarono a Gesù tutte le cose che avevano fatte; ed egli li prese con sé e si ritirò in disparte verso una città chiamata Betsàida.

Upon their return, the apostles reported to Jesus all that they had done. And He took them and withdrew into privacy near a town called Bethsaida.

11 M a le folle, avendolo saputo, lo seguirono; ed egli li accolse e parlava loro del regno di Dio, e guariva quelli che avevano bisogno di guarigione.

But when the crowds learned of it, followed Him; and He welcomed them and talked to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed restoration to health.

12 O r il giorno cominciava a declinare; e i dodici, avvicinatisi, gli dissero: «Lascia andare la folla, perché se ne vada per i villaggi e per le campagne vicine per trovarvi cibo e alloggio, perché qui siamo in un luogo deserto».

Now the day began to decline, and the Twelve came and said to Him, Dismiss the crowds and send them away, so that they may go to the neighboring hamlets and villages and the surrounding country and find lodging and get a supply of provisions, for we are here in an uninhabited (barren, solitary) place.

13 M a egli disse loro: «Date loro voi da mangiare». Ed essi obiettarono: «Noi non abbiamo altro che cinque pani e due pesci; a meno che non andiamo noi a comprar dei viveri per tutta questa gente».

But He said to them, You give them to eat. They said, We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all this crowd,

14 P erché c’erano circa cinquemila uomini. Ed egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Fateli sedere a gruppi di una cinquantina».

For there were about 5, 000 men. And said to His disciples, Have them reclining in table groups (companies) of about fifty each.

15 E così li fecero accomodare tutti.

And they did so, and made them all recline.

16 P oi Gesù prese i cinque pani e i due pesci, alzò lo sguardo al cielo e li benedisse, li spezzò e li diede ai suoi discepoli perché li distribuissero alla gente.

And taking the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven and gave thanks and asked Him to bless them. Then He broke them and gave them to the disciples to place before the multitude.

17 T utti mangiarono e furono saziati, e dei pezzi avanzati si portarono via dodici ceste. Pietro riconosce in Gesù il Cristo

And all the people ate and were satisfied. And they gathered up what remained over—twelve '> small hand] baskets of broken pieces.

18 M entre egli stava pregando in disparte, i discepoli erano con lui; ed egli domandò loro: «Chi dice la gente che io sia?»

Now it occurred that as Jesus was praying privately, the disciples were with Him, and He asked them, Who do men say that I am?

19 E quelli risposero: «Alcuni dicono Giovanni il battista; altri, Elia, e altri, uno dei profeti antichi che è risuscitato».

And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, that one of the ancient prophets has come back to life.

20 E d egli disse loro: «E voi, chi dite che io sia?» Pietro rispose: «Il Cristo di Dio».

And He said to them, But who do you say that I am? And Peter replied, The Christ of God!

21 E d egli ordinò loro di non dirlo a nessuno, e aggiunse:

But He strictly charged and sharply commanded them '> under penalty] to tell this to no one '> whoever he might be],

22 « Bisogna che il Figlio dell’uomo soffra molte cose e sia respinto dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, sia ucciso e risusciti il terzo giorno». Il prezzo del discepolato

Saying, The Son of Man must suffer many things and be '> deliberately] disapproved and repudiated and rejected on the part of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death and on the third day be raised.

23 D iceva poi a tutti: «Se uno vuol venire dietro a me, rinunci a se stesso, prenda ogni giorno la sua croce e mi segua.

And He said to all, If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself '> disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me '> cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also].

24 P erché chi vorrà salvare la sua vita la perderà, ma chi avrà perduto la propria vita per causa mia la salverà.

For whoever would preserve his life and save it will lose and destroy it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he will preserve and save it '> from the penalty of eternal death].

25 I nfatti, che serve all’uomo guadagnare tutto il mondo, se poi perde o rovina se stesso?

For what does it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and ruins or forfeits (loses) himself?

26 P erché se uno ha vergogna di me e delle mie parole, il Figlio dell’uomo avrà vergogna di lui, quando verrà nella gloria sua e del Padre e dei santi angeli.

Because whoever is ashamed of Me and of My teachings, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when He comes in the '> threefold] glory (the splendor and majesty) of Himself and of the Father and of the holy angels.

27 O ra io vi dico in verità che alcuni di quelli che sono qui presenti non gusteranno la morte, finché non abbiano visto il regno di Dio». La trasfigurazione

However I tell you truly, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.

28 C irca otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo, e salì sul monte a pregare.

Now about eight days after these teachings, Jesus took with Him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.

29 M entre pregava, l’aspetto del suo volto fu mutato e la sua veste divenne di un candore sfolgorante.

And as He was praying, the appearance of His countenance became altered (different), and His raiment became dazzling white '> flashing with the brilliance of lightning].

30 E d ecco, due uomini conversavano con lui: erano Mosè ed Elia,

And behold, two men were conversing with Him—Moses and Elijah,

31 i quali, apparsi in gloria, parlavano della sua dipartita che stava per compiersi in Gerusalemme.

Who appeared in splendor and majesty and brightness and were speaking of His exit, which He was about to bring to realization at Jerusalem.

32 P ietro e quelli che erano con lui erano oppressi dal sonno; e, quando si furono svegliati, videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che erano con lui.

Now Peter and those with him were weighed down with sleep, but when they fully awoke, they saw His glory (splendor and majesty and brightness) and the two men who stood with Him.

33 C ome questi si separavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Maestro, è bene che stiamo qui; facciamo tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia». Egli non sapeva quello che diceva.

And it occurred as the men were parting from Him that Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is delightful and good that we are here; and let us construct three booths or huts—one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah! not noticing or knowing what he was saying.

34 M entre parlava così, venne una nuvola che li avvolse; e i discepoli temettero quando essi entrarono nella nuvola.

But even as he was saying this, a cloud came and began to overshadow them, and they were seized with alarm and struck with fear as they entered into the cloud.

35 E una voce venne dalla nuvola, dicendo: «Questo è mio Figlio, colui che io ho scelto; ascoltatelo ».

Then there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is My Son, My Chosen One or My Beloved; listen to and yield to and obey Him!

36 M entre la voce parlava, Gesù si trovò solo. Ed essi tacquero e in quei giorni non riferirono nulla a nessuno di quello che avevano visto. Guarigione di un indemoniato

And when the voice had died away, Jesus was found there alone. And they kept still, and told no one at that time any of these things that they had seen.

37 I l giorno seguente, quando essi scesero dal monte, una gran folla andò incontro a Gesù.

Now it occurred the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met Him.

38 U n uomo dalla folla gridò: «Maestro, ti prego, volgi lo sguardo a mio figlio: è l’unico che io abbia.

And behold, a man from the crowd shouted out, Master, I implore You to look at my son, for he is my only child;

39 E cco, uno spirito si impadronisce di lui e subito egli grida; e lo spirito lo contorce, facendolo schiumare, e a fatica si allontana da lui, dopo averlo straziato.

And behold, a spirit seizes him and suddenly he cries out; it convulses him so that he foams at the mouth; and he is sorely shattered, and it will scarcely leave him.

40 H o pregato i tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non hanno potuto».

And I implored Your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.

41 G esù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando sarò con voi e vi sopporterò? Porta qui tuo figlio».

Jesus answered, O unbelieving and without trust in God, a perverse ( wayward, crooked and warped) generation! Until when and how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.

42 M entre il ragazzo si avvicinava, il demonio lo gettò per terra e cominciò a contorcerlo con le convulsioni; ma Gesù sgridò lo spirito immondo, guarì il ragazzo e lo rese a suo padre.

And even while he was coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him. But Jesus censured and severely rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the child and restored him to his father.

43 E tutti rimasero sbalorditi della grandezza di Dio. Mentre tutti si meravigliavano di tutte le cose che faceva, egli disse ai suoi discepoli:

And all were astounded at the evidence of God’s mighty power and His majesty and magnificence. But they were all marveling at everything Jesus was doing, He said to His disciples,

44 « Voi, tenete bene in mente queste parole: il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere consegnato nelle mani degli uomini».

Let these words sink into your ears: the Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men '> whose conduct is opposed to God].

45 M a essi non capivano queste parole che erano per loro velate, così da risultare incomprensibili, e temevano di interrogarlo su quanto aveva detto. L’umiltà, segreto della vera grandezza; condanna dello spirito settario

However, they did not comprehend this saying; and it was kept hidden from them, so that they should not grasp it and understand, and they were afraid to ask Him about the statement.

46 P oi cominciarono a discutere su chi di loro fosse il più grande.

But a controversy arose among them as to which of them might be the greatest.

47 M a Gesù, conosciuto il pensiero del loro cuore, prese un bambino, se lo pose accanto e disse loro:

But Jesus, as He perceived the thoughts of their hearts, took a little child and put him at His side

48 « Chi riceve questo bambino nel nome mio, riceve me; e chi riceve me, riceve Colui che mi ha mandato. Perché chi è il più piccolo tra tutti voi, quello è grande ».

And told them, Whoever receives and accepts and welcomes this child in My name and for My sake receives and accepts and welcomes Me; and whoever so receives Me so also receives Him Who sent Me. For he who is least and lowliest among you all—he is great.

49 A llora Giovanni disse: «Maestro, noi abbiamo visto un tale che scacciava demòni nel tuo nome, e glielo abbiamo vietato perché non ti segue con noi».

John said, Master, we saw a man driving out demons in Your name and we commanded him to stop it, for he does not follow along with us.

50 M a Gesù gli disse: «Non glielo vietate, perché chi non è contro di voi è per voi ». Gesù in Samaria

But Jesus told him, Do not forbid; for whoever is not against you is for you.

51 P oi, mentre si avvicinava il tempo in cui sarebbe stato tolto dal mondo, Gesù si mise risolutamente in cammino per andare a Gerusalemme.

Now when the time was almost come for Jesus to be received up, He steadfastly and determinedly set His face to go to Jerusalem.

52 M andò davanti a sé dei messaggeri, i quali, partiti, entrarono in un villaggio dei Samaritani per preparargli un alloggio.

And He sent messengers before Him; and they reached and entered a Samaritan village to make ready for Him;

53 M a quelli non lo ricevettero perché era diretto verso Gerusalemme.

But would not welcome or receive or accept Him, because His face was going to Jerusalem.

54 V eduto ciò, i discepoli Giacomo e Giovanni dissero: «Signore, vuoi che diciamo che un fuoco scenda dal cielo e li consumi ? »

And when His disciples James and John observed this, they said, Lord, do You wish us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, even as Elijah did ?

55 M a egli si voltò verso di loro e li sgridò. [E disse: «Voi non sapete di quale spirito siete animati.

But He turned and rebuked and severely censured them. He said, You do not know of what sort of spirit you are,

56 P oiché il Figlio dell’uomo non è venuto per perdere le anime degli uomini, ma per salvarle».] E se ne andarono in un altro villaggio. Come seguire Gesù

For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they journeyed on to another village.

57 M entre camminavano per la via, qualcuno gli disse: «Io ti seguirò dovunque andrai».

And it occurred that as they were going along the road, a man said to Him, Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.

58 E Gesù gli rispose: «Le volpi hanno delle tane e gli uccelli del cielo dei nidi, ma il Figlio dell’uomo non ha dove posare il capo».

And Jesus told him, Foxes have lurking holes and the birds of the air have roosts and nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.

59 A un altro disse: «Seguimi». Ed egli rispose: «{Signore,} permettimi di andare prima a seppellire mio padre».

And He said to another, Become My disciple, side with My party, and accompany Me! But he replied, Lord, permit me first to go and bury ( await the death of) my father.

60 M a egli gli disse: «Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti; ma tu va’ ad annunciare il regno di Dio».

But Jesus said to him, Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and publish abroad throughout all regions the kingdom of God.

61 U n altro ancora gli disse: «Ti seguirò, Signore, ma lasciami prima salutare quelli di casa mia».

Another also said, I will follow You, Lord, and become Your disciple and side with Your party; but let me first say good-bye to those at my home.

62 M a Gesù {gli disse}: «Nessuno che abbia messo la mano all’aratro e poi volga lo sguardo indietro è adatto per il regno di Dio».

Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.
