1 « Ascoltate questo, sacerdoti! State attenti, voi della casa d’Israele! Porgete l’orecchio, voi della casa del re! Questo giudizio è contro di voi, perché siete stati un laccio a Mispa e una rete tesa sul Tabor.

Hear this, O you priests! And listen, O house of Israel! And give ear, O house of the king! For the judgment pronounced pertains to you and is meant for you, because you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor.

2 C on i loro sacrifici rendono più profonde le loro infedeltà, ma io li castigherò tutti.

The revolters are deeply sunk in corruption and slaughter, but I am a rebuke and a chastisement for them all.

3 I o conosco Efraim, e Israele non mi è ignoto; poiché ora, o Efraim, tu ti sei prostituito, e Israele si è contaminato.

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from Me; for now, O Ephraim, you have played the harlot and have worshiped idols; Israel is defiled.

4 L e loro azioni non permettono di tornare al loro Dio, perché lo spirito di prostituzione è in loro e non conoscono il Signore.

Their doings will not permit them to return to their God, for the spirit of harlotry is within them and they know not the Lord.

5 M a l’orgoglio d’Israele testimonia contro di lui. Israele ed Efraim cadranno per la loro malvagità, e anche Giuda cadrà con loro.

But the pride and self-reliance of Israel testifies before his face. Therefore shall Israel, and Ephraim, totter and fall in their iniquity and guilt, and Judah shall stumble and fall with them.

6 A ndranno con le loro greggi e con le loro mandrie in cerca del Signore, ma non lo troveranno: egli si è ritirato da loro.

They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the Lord, but they will not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from them.

7 H anno agito perfidamente contro il Signore; hanno generato figli bastardi, ma ora basterà un mese a divorarli con i loro beni.

They have dealt faithlessly and treacherously with the Lord, for they have borne alien children. Now shall a New Moon (one month) devour them with their fields.

8 S uonate il corno a Ghibea e la tromba a Rama! Date l’allarme a Bet-Aven! Ti sono alle spalle, Beniamino!

Blow the horn in Gibeah and the trumpet in Ramah. Sound the alarm at Beth-aven: behind you and after you, O Benjamin!

9 E fraim sarà devastato nel giorno del castigo; io annuncio fra le tribù d’Israele una cosa certa.

Ephraim shall become a desolation in the day of rebuke and punishment. Among the tribes of Israel I declare what shall surely be.

10 I capi di Giuda sono come quelli che spostano i confini; io riverserò la mia ira su di loro come acqua.

The princes of Judah are like those who remove the landmark; I will pour out My wrath upon them like water.

11 « Efraim è oppresso, schiacciato nel suo diritto, perché ha seguito le prescrizioni che più gli piacevano;

Ephraim is oppressed; he is broken and crushed by judgment, because he was content to walk after idols (images) and man’s command ( vanities and filth ).

12 p erciò io sono come una tignola per Efraim, come un tarlo per la casa di Giuda.

Therefore I am like a moth to Ephraim and like dry rot to the house of Judah.

13 Q uando Efraim ha visto il suo male e Giuda la sua piaga, Efraim è andato verso l’Assiria e ha mandato dei messaggeri a un re perché lo difendesse; ma questi non potrà guarirvi, né vi guarirà della vostra piaga.

When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah saw his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria and sent to great King Jareb. Yet he cannot heal you nor will he cure you of your wound.

14 P erché io sarò come un leone per Efraim, come un leoncello per la casa di Giuda. Io, io strapperò e me ne andrò; li porterò via, e non vi sarà chi li salvi.

For I will be to Ephraim like a lion, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will rend and go on; I will carry off and there will be no one to deliver.

15 I o me ne andrò e tornerò al mio luogo, finch’essi non si riconoscano colpevoli e cerchino la mia faccia; quando saranno nell’angoscia, ricorreranno a me.

I will return to My place until they acknowledge their offense and feel their guilt and seek My face; in their affliction and distress they will seek, inquire for, and require Me earnestly, saying,
