1 P erciò, fratelli santi, che siete partecipi della celeste vocazione, considerate Gesù, l’apostolo e il sommo sacerdote della fede che professiamo,

So then, brethren, consecrated and set apart for God, who share in the heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest Whom we confessed.

2 i l quale è fedele a colui che lo ha costituito, come anche lo fu Mosè, in {tutta} la casa di Dio.

faithful He was to Him Who appointed Him, as Moses was also faithful in the whole house.

3 G esù, anzi, è stato ritenuto degno di una gloria tanto più grande di quella di Mosè quanto chi costruisce una casa ha maggior onore della casa stessa.

Yet Jesus has been considered worthy of much greater honor and glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house.

4 C erto ogni casa è costruita da qualcuno, ma chi ha costruito tutte le cose è Dio.

For every house is built and furnished by someone, but the Builder of all things and the Furnisher is God.

5 M osè fu fedele in tutta la casa di Dio come servitore per rendere testimonianza di ciò che doveva essere annunciato,

And Moses certainly was faithful in the administration of all God’s house as a ministering servant. a testimony to the things which were to be spoken.

6 m a Cristo lo è come Figlio, sopra la sua casa; e la sua casa siamo noi se manteniamo ferma la nostra franchezza e la speranza di cui ci vantiamo. Il riposo di Dio

But Christ (the Messiah) was faithful over His house as a Son. And it is we who are of this house, if we hold fast and firm to the end our joyful and exultant confidence and sense of triumph in our hope.

7 P erciò, come dice lo Spirito Santo: «Oggi, se udite la sua voce,

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you will hear His voice,

8 n on indurite i vostri cuori come nel giorno della ribellione, come nel giorno della tentazione nel deserto,

Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion and their provocation and embitterment in the day of testing in the wilderness,

9 d ove i vostri padri mi tentarono mettendomi alla prova, pur avendo visto le mie opere per quarant’anni!

Where your fathers tried and tested and found I stood their test, and they saw My works for forty years.

10 P erciò mi disgustai di quella generazione e dissi: “Sono sempre traviati di cuore, non hanno conosciuto le mie vie ”;

And so I was provoked (displeased and sorely grieved) with that generation, and said, They always err and are led astray in their hearts, and they have not perceived or recognized My ways and become progressively better and more experimentally and intimately acquainted with them.

11 c osì giurai nella mia ira: “Non entreranno nel mio riposo!”».

Accordingly, I swore in My wrath and indignation, They shall not enter into My rest.

12 B adate, fratelli, che non ci sia in nessuno di voi un cuore malvagio e incredulo che vi allontani dal Dio vivente;

brethren, take care, lest there be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart, leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God.

13 m a esortatevi a vicenda ogni giorno, finché si può dire: «Oggi», perché nessuno di voi s’indurisca per la seduzione del peccato.

But instead warn (admonish, urge, and encourage) one another every day, as long as it is called Today, that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

14 I nfatti siamo divenuti partecipi di Cristo, a condizione che manteniamo ferma sino alla fine la fiducia che avevamo da principio,

For we have become fellows with Christ (the Messiah) and share in all He has for us, if only we hold our first newborn confidence and original assured expectation firm and unshaken to the end.

15 m entre ci viene detto: «Oggi, se udite la sua voce, non indurite i vostri cuori, come nel giorno della ribellione».

Then while it is called Today, if you would hear His voice and when you hear it, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.

16 I nfatti, chi furono quelli che dopo averlo udito si ribellarono? Non furono forse tutti quelli che erano usciti dall’Egitto, sotto la guida di Mosè?

For who were they who heard and yet were rebellious and provoked ? Was it not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?

17 C hi furono quelli di cui Dio si disgustò per quarant’anni? Non furono quelli che peccarono, i cui cadaveri caddero nel deserto ?

And with whom was He irritated and provoked and grieved for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose dismembered bodies were strewn and left in the desert?

18 A chi giurò che non sarebbero entrati nel suo riposo, se non a quelli che furono disubbidienti?

And to whom did He swear that they should not enter His rest, but to those who disobeyed ?

19 I nfatti vediamo che non vi poterono entrare a causa della loro incredulità.

So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unwillingness to adhere to and trust in and rely on God.
