1 Y o, pues, prisionero del Señor, os ruego que viváis de una manera digna de la vocación con que habéis sido llamados,

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,

2 c on toda humildad y mansedumbre, con paciencia, soportándoos unos a otros en amor,

with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,

3 e sforzándoos por preservar la unidad del Espíritu en el vínculo de la paz.

endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 H ay un solo cuerpo y un solo Espíritu, así como también vosotros fuisteis llamados en una misma esperanza de vuestra vocación;

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;

5 u n solo Señor, una sola fe, un solo bautismo,

one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

6 u n solo Dios y Padre de todos, que está sobre todos, por todos y en todos.

one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Spiritual Gifts

7 P ero a cada uno de nosotros se nos ha concedido la gracia conforme a la medida del don de Cristo.

But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

8 P or tanto, dice: Cuando ascendio a lo alto, llevo cautiva una hueste de cautivos, y dio dones a los hombres.

Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.”

9 ( Esta expresión: Ascendió, ¿qué significa, sino que El también había descendido a las profundidades de la tierra ?

(Now this, “He ascended” —what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?

10 E l que descendió es también el mismo que ascendió mucho más arriba de todos los cielos, para poder llenarlo todo.)

He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)

11 Y El dio a algunos el ser apóstoles, a otros profetas, a otros evangelistas, a otros pastores y maestros,

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,

12 a fin de capacitar a los santos para la obra del ministerio, para la edificación del cuerpo de Cristo;

for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

13 h asta que todos lleguemos a la unidad de la fe y del conocimiento pleno del Hijo de Dios, a la condición de un hombre maduro, a la medida de la estatura de la plenitud de Cristo;

till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

14 p ara que ya no seamos niños, sacudidos por las olas y llevados de aquí para allá por todo viento de doctrina, por la astucia de los hombres, por las artimañas engañosas del error;

that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,

15 s ino que hablando la verdad en amor, crezcamos en todos los aspectos en aquel que es la cabeza, es decir, Cristo,

but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—

16 d e quien todo el cuerpo (estando bien ajustado y unido por la cohesión que las coyunturas proveen ), conforme al funcionamiento adecuado de cada miembro, produce el crecimiento del cuerpo para su propia edificación en amor. Nueva vida en Cristo

from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. The New Man

17 E sto digo, pues, y afirmo juntamente con el Señor: que ya no andéis así como andan también los gentiles, en la vanidad de su mente,

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,

18 e ntenebrecidos en su entendimiento, excluidos de la vida de Dios por causa de la ignorancia que hay en ellos, por la dureza de su corazón;

having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;

19 y ellos, habiendo llegado a ser insensibles, se entregaron a la sensualidad para cometer con avidez toda clase de impurezas.

who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 P ero vosotros no habéis aprendido a Cristo de esta manera,

But you have not so learned Christ,

21 s i en verdad lo oísteis y habéis sido enseñados en El, conforme a la verdad que hay en Jesús,

if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22 q ue en cuanto a vuestra anterior manera de vivir, os despojéis del viejo hombre, que se corrompe según los deseos engañosos,

that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

23 y que seáis renovados en el espíritu de vuestra mente,

and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

24 y os vistáis del nuevo hombre, el cual, en la semejanza de Dios, ha sido creado en la justicia y santidad de la verdad.

and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Do Not Grieve the Spirit

25 P or tanto, dejando a un lado la falsedad, hablad verdad cada cual con su projimo, porque somos miembros los unos de los otros.

Therefore, putting away lying, “ Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.

26 A iraos, pero no pequeis; no se ponga el sol sobre vuestro enojo,

“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,

27 n i deis oportunidad al diablo.

nor give place to the devil.

28 E l que roba, no robe más, sino más bien que trabaje, haciendo con sus manos lo que es bueno, a fin de que tenga qué compartir con el que tiene necesidad.

Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

29 N o salga de vuestra boca ninguna palabra mala, sino sólo la que sea buena para edificación, según la necesidad del momento, para que imparta gracia a los que escuchan.

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

30 Y no entristezcáis al Espíritu Santo de Dios, por el cual fuisteis sellados para el día de la redención.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 S ea quitada de vosotros toda amargura, enojo, ira, gritos, maledicencia, así como toda malicia.

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

32 S ed más bien amables unos con otros, misericordiosos, perdonándoos unos a otros, así como también Dios os perdonó en Cristo.

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
