1 Y el sumo sacerdote dijo: ¿Es esto así?

Then the high priest said, “Are these things so?”

2 Y él dijo: Escuchad me, hermanos y padres. El Dios de gloria apareció a nuestro padre Abraham cuando estaba en Mesopotamia, antes que habitara en Harán,

And he said, “Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

3 y le dijo: “ Sal de tu tierra y de tu parentela, y ve a la tierra que yo te mostrare.”

and said to him, ‘Get out of your country and from your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you.’

4 E ntonces él salió de la tierra de los caldeos y se radicó en Harán. Y de allí, después de la muerte de su padre, Dios lo trasladó a esta tierra en la cual ahora vosotros habitáis.

Then he came out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Haran. And from there, when his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell.

5 N o le dio en ella heredad, ni siquiera la medida de la planta del pie, y sin embargo, aunque no tenía hijo, prometió que se la daria en posesion a el y a su descendencia despues de el.

And God gave him no inheritance in it, not even enough to set his foot on. But even when Abraham had no child, He promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him.

6 Y Dios dijo así: “ Que sus descendientes serian extranjeros en una tierra extraña, y que serian esclavizados y maltratados por cuatrocientos años.

But God spoke in this way: that his descendants would dwell in a foreign land, and that they would bring them into bondage and oppress them four hundred years.

7 “ Pero yo mismo juzgare a cualquier nacion de la cual sean esclavos ” —dijo Dios— “ y despues de eso saldran y me serviran en este lugar.”

‘And the nation to whom they will be in bondage I will judge,’ said God, ‘and after that they shall come out and serve Me in this place.’

8 Y Dios le dio el pacto de la circuncisión; y así Abraham vino a ser el padre de Isaac, y lo circuncidó al octavo día; e Isaac vino a ser el padre de Jacob, y Jacob de los doce patriarcas.

Then He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham begot Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot the twelve patriarchs. The Patriarchs in Egypt

9 Y los patriarcas tuvieron envidia de José y lo vendieron para Egipto. Pero Dios estaba con él,

“And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him

10 y lo rescató de todas sus aflicciones, y le dio gracia y sabiduría delante de Faraón, rey de Egipto, y éste lo puso por gobernador sobre Egipto y sobre toda su casa.

and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

11 E ntonces vino hambre sobre todo Egipto y Canaán, y con ella gran aflicción; y nuestros padres no hallaban alimentos.

Now a famine and great trouble came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and our fathers found no sustenance.

12 P ero cuando Jacob supo que había grano en Egipto, envió a nuestros padres allá la primera vez.

But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

13 E n la segunda visita, José se dio a conocer a sus hermanos, y conoció Faraón el linaje de José.

And the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s family became known to the Pharaoh.

14 Y José, enviando mensaje, mandó llamar a Jacob su padre y a toda su parentela, en total setenta y cinco personas.

Then Joseph sent and called his father Jacob and all his relatives to him, seventy-five people.

15 Y Jacob descendió a Egipto, y allí murió él y también nuestros padres.

So Jacob went down to Egypt; and he died, he and our fathers.

16 Y de allí fueron trasladados a Siquem, y puestos en el sepulcro que por una suma de dinero había comprado Abraham a los hijos de Hamor en Siquem.

And they were carried back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem. God Delivers Israel by Moses

17 P ero a medida que se acercaba el tiempo de la promesa que Dios había confirmado a Abraham, el pueblo crecía y se multiplicaba en Egipto,

“But when the time of the promise drew near which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt

18 h asta que surgio otro rey en Egipto que no sabia nada de Jose.

till another king arose who did not know Joseph.

19 E ste rey, obrando con astucia contra nuestro pueblo, maltrató a nuestros padres, a fin de que expusieran a la muerte a sus niños para que no vivieran.

This man dealt treacherously with our people, and oppressed our forefathers, making them expose their babies, so that they might not live.

20 F ue por ese tiempo que Moisés nació. Era hermoso a la vista de Dios, y fue criado por tres meses en la casa de su padre.

At this time Moses was born, and was well pleasing to God; and he was brought up in his father’s house for three months.

21 D espués de ser abandonado para morir, la hija de Faraón se lo llevó y lo crió como su propio hijo.

But when he was set out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him away and brought him up as her own son.

22 Y Moisés fue instruido en toda la sabiduría de los egipcios, y era un hombre poderoso en palabras y en hechos.

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.

23 P ero cuando iba a cumplir la edad de cuarenta años, sintió en su corazón el deseo de visitar a sus hermanos, los hijos de Israel.

“Now when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel.

24 Y al ver que uno de ellos era tratado injustamente, lo defendió y vengó al oprimido matando al egipcio.

And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended and avenged him who was oppressed, and struck down the Egyptian.

25 P ensaba que sus hermanos entendían que Dios les estaba dando libertad por medio de él, pero ellos no entendieron.

For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand.

26 A l día siguiente se les presentó, cuando dos de ellos reñían, y trató de poner paz entre ellos, diciendo: “Varones, vosotros sois hermanos, ¿por qué os herís el uno al otro ?”

And the next day he appeared to two of them as they were fighting, and tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brethren; why do you wrong one another?’

27 P ero el que estaba hiriendo a su prójimo lo empujó, diciendo: “¿ Quien te ha puesto por gobernante y juez sobre nosotros ?

But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?

28 “ ¿ Acaso quieres matarme como mataste ayer al egipcio ?”

Do you want to kill me as you did the Egyptian yesterday?’

29 A l oír estas palabras, Moises huyo y se convirtio en extranjero en la tierra de Madian, donde fue padre de dos hijos.

Then, at this saying, Moses fled and became a dweller in the land of Midian, where he had two sons.

30 Y pasados cuarenta años, se le aparecio un angel en el desierto del monte Sinaí, en la llama de una zarza que ardia.

“And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai.

31 A l ver esto, Moisés se maravillaba de la visión, y al acercarse para ver mejor, vino a él la voz del Señor:

When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight; and as he drew near to observe, the voice of the Lord came to him,

32 “ Yo soy el Dios de tus padres, el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac, y de Jacob.” Moisés temblando, no se atrevía a mirar.

saying, ‘I am the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ And Moses trembled and dared not look.

33 P ero el Señor le dijo: “Quitate las sandalias de los pies, porque el lugar donde estas es tierra santa.

‘Then the L ord said to him, “Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

34 “ Ciertamente he visto la opresion de mi pueblo en Egipto y he oido sus gemidos, y he descendido para librarlos; ven ahora y te enviare a Egipto.”

I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt.”’

35 E ste Moisés, a quien ellos rechazaron, diciendo: “¿ Quien te ha puesto por gobernante y juez ?” es el mismo que Dios envió para ser gobernante y libertador con la ayuda del ángel que se le apareció en la zarza.

“This Moses whom they rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ is the one God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush.

36 E ste hombre los sacó, haciendo prodigios y señales en la tierra de Egipto, en el mar Rojo y en el desierto por cuarenta años.

He brought them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years. Israel Rebels Against God

37 E ste es el mismo Moisés que dijo a los hijos de Israel: “ Dios os levantara un profeta como yo de entre vuestros hermanos.”

“This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ‘The L ord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear.’

38 E ste es el que estaba en la congregación en el desierto junto con el ángel que le hablaba en el monte Sinaí, y con nuestros padres, y el que recibió palabras de vida para transmitirlas a vosotros;

“This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us,

39 a l cual nuestros padres no quisieron obedecer, sino que lo repudiaron, y en sus corazones regresaron a Egipto,

whom our fathers would not obey, but rejected. And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt,

40 d iciendo a Aaron: “Haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros, porque a este Moises que nos saco de la tierra de Egipto, no sabemos lo que le haya pasado.”

saying to Aaron, ‘Make us gods to go before us; as for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’

41 E n aquellos días hicieron un becerro y ofrecieron sacrificio al ídolo, y se regocijaban en las obras de sus manos.

And they made a calf in those days, offered sacrifices to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

42 P ero Dios se apartó de ellos y los entregó para que sirvieran al ejército del cielo, como está escrito en el libro de los profetas: ¿ Acaso fue a mi a quien ofrecisteis victimas y sacrificios en el desierto por cuarenta años, casa de Israel ?

Then God turned and gave them up to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets: ‘Did you offer Me slaughtered animals and sacrifices during forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

43 T ambien llevasteis el tabernaculo de Moloc, y la estrella del dios Renfan, las imagenes que hicisteis para adorarlas. Yo tambien os deportare mas alla de Babilonia.

You also took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of your god Remphan, Images which you made to worship; And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.’ God’s True Tabernacle

44 N uestros padres tuvieron el tabernáculo del testimonio en el desierto, tal como le había ordenado que lo hiciera Aquél que habló a Moisés, conforme al modelo que había visto.

“Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He appointed, instructing Moses to make it according to the pattern that he had seen,

45 A su vez, habiéndolo recibido, nuestros padres lo introdujeron con Josué al tomar posesión de las naciones que Dios arrojó de delante de nuestros padres, hasta los días de David.

which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David,

46 Y David halló gracia delante de Dios, y pidió el favor de hallar una morada para el Dios de Jacob.

who found favor before God and asked to find a dwelling for the God of Jacob.

47 P ero fue Salomón quien le edificó una casa.

But Solomon built Him a house.

48 S in embargo, el Altísimo no habita en casas hechas por manos de hombres; como dice el profeta:

“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says:

49 E l cielo es mi trono, y la tierra el estrado de mis pies; ¿ que casa me edificareis ? —dice el Señor— ¿ O cual es el lugar de mi reposo ?

‘Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says the L ord, Or what is the place of My rest?

50 ¿ No fue mi mano la que hizo todas estas cosas ?

Has My hand not made all these things?’ Israel Resists the Holy Spirit

51 V osotros, que sois duros de cerviz e incircuncisos de corazón y de oídos, resistís siempre al Espíritu Santo; como hicieron vuestros padres, así también hacéis vosotros.

“ You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

52 ¿ A cuál de los profetas no persiguieron vuestros padres ? Ellos mataron a los que antes habían anunciado la venida del Justo, del cual ahora vosotros os hicisteis traidores y asesinos;

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

53 v osotros que recibisteis la ley por disposición de ángeles y sin embargo no la guardasteis. Martirio de Esteban

who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it. ” Stephen the Martyr

54 A l oír esto, se sintieron profundamente ofendidos, y crujían los dientes contra él.

When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

55 P ero Esteban, lleno del Espíritu Santo, fijos los ojos en el cielo, vio la gloria de Dios y a Jesús de pie a la diestra de Dios;

But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,

56 y dijo: He aquí, veo los cielos abiertos, y al Hijo del Hombre de pie a la diestra de Dios.

and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

57 E ntonces ellos gritaron a gran voz, y tapándose los oídos arremetieron a una contra él.

Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord;

58 Y echándolo fuera de la ciudad, comenzaron a apedrearle; y los testigos pusieron sus mantos a los pies de un joven llamado Saulo.

and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.

59 Y mientras apedreaban a Esteban, él invocaba al Señor y decía: Señor Jesús, recibe mi espíritu.

And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

60 Y cayendo de rodillas, clamó en alta voz: Señor, no les tomes en cuenta este pecado. Habiendo dicho esto, durmió.

Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
