1 Y aconteció que cuando se les informó a Sanbalat, a Tobías, a Gesem el árabe y a los demás enemigos nuestros que yo había reedificado la muralla y que no quedaba ninguna brecha en ella, aunque en aquel tiempo yo no había asentado todavía las hojas en las puertas,

Now it happened when Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall, and that there were no breaks left in it (though at that time I had not hung the doors in the gates),

2 S anbalat y Gesem me enviaron un mensaje, diciendo: Ven, reunámonos en Quefirim en el llano de Ono. Pero ellos tramaban hacerme daño.

that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come, let us meet together among the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they thought to do me harm.

3 Y les envié mensajeros, diciendo: Yo estoy haciendo una gran obra y no puedo descender. ¿Por qué ha de detenerse la obra mientras la dejo y desciendo a vosotros?

So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?”

4 Y cuatro veces me enviaron mensajes en la misma forma, y yo les respondí de la misma manera.

But they sent me this message four times, and I answered them in the same manner.

5 E ntonces Sanbalat me envió su siervo en la misma forma por quinta vez, con una carta abierta en su mano.

Then Sanballat sent his servant to me as before, the fifth time, with an open letter in his hand.

6 E n ella estaba escrito: Se ha oído entre las naciones, y Gasmu dice, que tú y los judíos estáis tramando rebelaros; por eso reedificas la muralla. Y según estos informes tú vas a ser su rey.

In it was written: It is reported among the nations, and Geshem says, that you and the Jews plan to rebel; therefore, according to these rumors, you are rebuilding the wall, that you may be their king.

7 T ambién has puesto profetas para anunciar en Jerusalén en cuanto a ti: “Un rey está en Judá.” Y ahora llegarán a oídos del rey estos informes. Ahora pues, ven, consultemos juntos.

And you have also appointed prophets to proclaim concerning you at Jerusalem, saying, “ There is a king in Judah!” Now these matters will be reported to the king. So come, therefore, and let us consult together.

8 E ntonces le envié un mensaje, diciendo: No han sucedido esas cosas que tú dices, sino que las estás inventando en tu corazón.

Then I sent to him, saying, “No such things as you say are being done, but you invent them in your own heart.”

9 P orque todos ellos querían amedrentarnos, pensando: Ellos se desanimarán con la obra y no será hecha. Pero ahora, oh Dios, fortalece mis manos.

For they all were trying to make us afraid, saying, “Their hands will be weakened in the work, and it will not be done.” Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

10 C uando entré yo en casa de Semaías, hijo de Delaía, hijo de Mehetabel, que estaba encerrado allí, él dijo: Reunámonos en la casa de Dios, dentro del templo, y cerremos las puertas del templo, porque vienen a matarte, vienen de noche a matarte.

Afterward I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was a secret informer; and he said, “Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you; indeed, at night they will come to kill you.”

11 P ero yo dije: ¿Huir un hombre como yo ? ¿Acaso uno como yo entraría al templo para salvar su vida ? No entraré.

And I said, “Should such a man as I flee? And who is there such as I who would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in!”

12 E ntonces me di cuenta de que ciertamente Dios no lo había enviado, sino que había dicho su profecía contra mí porque Tobías y Sanbalat le habían pagado.

Then I perceived that God had not sent him at all, but that he pronounced this prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

13 L e pagaron por esta razón, para que yo me atemorizara y obrara de esa manera y pecara, y ellos tuvieran un mal informe de mí y pudieran reprocharme.

For this reason he was hired, that I should be afraid and act that way and sin, so that they might have cause for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

14 A cuérdate, Dios mío, de Tobías y de Sanbalat conforme a estas obras suyas, también de la profetisa Noadías y de los demás profetas que estaban atemorizándome.

My God, remember Tobiah and Sanballat, according to these their works, and the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who would have made me afraid. The Wall Completed

15 L a muralla fue terminada el veinticinco del mes de Elul, en cincuenta y dos días.

So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days.

16 Y aconteció que cuando se enteraron todos nuestros enemigos y lo vieron todas las naciones que estaban alrededor nuestro, desfalleció su ánimo; porque reconocieron que esta obra había sido hecha con la ayuda de nuestro Dios.

And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, that they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God.

17 T ambién en aquellos días iban muchas cartas de los nobles de Judá a Tobías, y de Tobías venían cartas a ellos.

Also in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came to them.

18 P orque muchos en Judá estaban unidos a él bajo juramento porque él era yerno de Secanías, hijo de Ara, y su hijo Johanán se había casado con la hija de Mesulam, hijo de Berequías.

For many in Judah were pledged to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shechaniah the son of Arah, and his son Jehohanan had married the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.

19 A demás, hablaban de sus buenas obras en mi presencia y a él le informaban de mis palabras. Y Tobías me enviaba cartas para atemorizarme.

Also they reported his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. Tobiah sent letters to frighten me.
