1 N ow faith is substantiating of things hoped for, conviction of things not seen.

Вера же есть осуществление ожидаемого и уверенность в невидимом.

2 F or in this the elders have obtained testimony.

В ней свидетельствованы древние.

3 B y faith we apprehend that the worlds were framed by word of God, so that that which is seen should not take its origin from things which appear.

Верою познаём, что веки устроены словом Божиим, так что из невидимого произошло видимое.

4 B y faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained testimony of being righteous, God bearing testimony to his gifts, and by it, having died, he yet speaks.

Верою Авель принес Богу жертву лучшую, нежели Каин; ею получил свидетельство, что он праведен, как засвидетельствовал Бог о дарах его; ею он и по смерти говорит еще.

5 B y faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him; for before translation he has the testimony that he had pleased God.

Верою Енох переселен был так, что не видел смерти; и не стало его, потому что Бог переселил его. Ибо прежде переселения своего получил он свидетельство, что угодил Богу.

6 B ut without faith impossible to please. For he that draws near to God must believe that he is, and he is a rewarder of them who seek him out.

А без веры угодить Богу невозможно; ибо надобно, чтобы приходящий к Богу веровал, что Он есть, и ищущим Его воздает.

7 B y faith, Noah, oracularly warned concerning things not yet seen, moved with fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his house; by which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which according to faith.

Верою Ной, получив откровение о том, что еще не было видимо, благоговея приготовил ковчег для спасения дома своего; ею осудил он (весь) мир, и сделался наследником праведности по вере.

8 B y faith Abraham, being called, obeyed to go out into the place which he was to receive for an inheritance, and went out, not knowing where he was going.

Верою Авраам повиновался призванию идти в страну, которую имел получить в наследие, и пошел, не зная, куда идет.

9 B y faith he sojourned as a stranger in the land of promise as a foreign country, having dwelt in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with of the same promise;

Верою обитал он на земле обетованной, как на чужой, и жил в шатрах с Исааком и Иаковом, сонаследниками того же обетования;

10 f or he waited for the city which has foundations, of which God is artificer and constructor.

ибо он ожидал города, имеющего основание, которого художник и строитель Бог.

11 B y faith also Sarah herself received strength for conception of seed, and beyond a seasonable age; since she counted him faithful who promised.

Верою и сама Сарра (будучи неплодна) получила силу к принятию семени, и не по времени возраста родила, ибо знала, что верен Обещавший.

12 W herefore also there have been born of one, and that of one become dead, even as the stars of heaven in multitude, and as the countless sand which by the sea shore.

И потому от одного, и притом омертвелого, родилось так много, как звезд на небе и как бесчислен песок на берегу морском.

13 A ll these died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them from afar off and embraced, and confessed that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth.

Все сии умерли в вере, не получив обетований, а только издали видели оные, и радовались, и говорили о себе, что они странники и пришельцы на земле;

14 F or they who say such things shew clearly that they seek country.

ибо те, которые так говорят, показывают, что они ищут отечества.

15 A nd if they had called to mind that from whence they went out, they had had opportunity to have returned;

И если бы они в мыслях имели то, из которого вышли, то имели бы время возвратиться;

16 b ut now they seek a better, that is, a heavenly; wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he has prepared for them a city.

но они стремились к лучшему, то есть к небесному; посему и Бог не стыдится их, называя Себя их Богом: ибо Он приготовил им город.

17 B y faith Abraham, tried, offered up Isaac, and he who had received to himself the promises offered up his only begotten,

Верою Авраам, будучи искушаем, принес в жертву Исаака и, имея обетование, принес единородного,

18 a s to whom it had been said, In Isaac shall thy seed be called:

о котором было сказано: в Исааке наречется тебе семя.

19 c ounting that God able to raise even from among dead, whence also he received him in a figure.

Ибо он думал, что Бог силен и из мертвых воскресить, почему и получил его в предзнаменование.

20 B y faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

Верою в будущее Исаак благословил Иакова и Исава.

21 B y faith Jacob dying blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshipped on the top of his staff.

Верою Иаков, умирая, благословил каждого сына Иосифова и поклонился на верх жезла своего.

22 B y faith Joseph dying called to mind the going forth of the sons of Israel, and gave commandment concerning his bones.

Верою Иосиф, при кончине, напоминал об исходе сынов Израилевых и завещал о костях своих.

23 B y faith Moses, being born, was hid three months by his parents, because they saw the child beautiful; and they did not fear the injunction of the king.

Верою Моисей по рождении три месяца скрываем был родителями своими, ибо видели они, что дитя прекрасно, и не устрашились царского повеления.

24 B y faith Moses, when he had become great, refused to be called son of Pharaoh's daughter;

Верою Моисей, придя в возраст, отказался называться сыном дочери фараоновой,

25 c hoosing rather to suffer affliction along with the people of God than to have temporary pleasure of sin;

и лучше захотел страдать с народом Божиим, нежели иметь временное греховное наслаждение,

26 e steeming the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt, for he had respect to the recompense.

и поношение Христово почел большим для себя богатством, нежели Египетские сокровища; ибо он взирал на воздаяние.

27 B y faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he persevered, as seeing him who is invisible.

Верою оставил он Египет, не убоявшись гнева царского, ибо он, как бы видя Невидимого, был тверд.

28 B y faith he celebrated the passover and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.

Верою совершил он Пасху и пролитие крови, дабы истребитель первенцев не коснулся их.

29 B y faith they passed through the Red sea as through dry land; of which the Egyptians having made trial were swallowed up.

Верою перешли они Чермное море, как по суше, --на что покусившись, Египтяне потонули.

30 B y faith the walls of Jericho fell, having been encircled for seven days.

Верою пали стены Иерихонские, по семидневном обхождении.

31 B y faith Rahab the harlot did not perish along with the unbelieving, having received the spies in peace.

Верою Раав блудница, с миром приняв соглядатаев (и проводив их другим путем), не погибла с неверными.

32 A nd what more do I say? For the time would fail me telling of Gideon, and Barak, and Samson, and Jephthah, and David and Samuel, and of the prophets:

И что еще скажу? Недостанет мне времени, чтобы повествовать о Гедеоне, о Вараке, о Самсоне и Иеффае, о Давиде, Самуиле и (других) пророках,

33 w ho by faith overcame kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped lions' mouths,

которые верою побеждали царства, творили правду, получали обетования, заграждали уста львов,

34 q uenched power of fire, escaped edge of the sword, became strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, made armies of strangers give way.

угашали силу огня, избегали острия меча, укреплялись от немощи, были крепки на войне, прогоняли полки чужих;

35 W omen received their dead again by resurrection; and others were tortured, not having accepted deliverance, that they might get a better resurrection;

жены получали умерших своих воскресшими; иные же замучены были, не приняв освобождения, дабы получить лучшее воскресение;

36 a nd others underwent trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, and of bonds and imprisonment.

другие испытали поругания и побои, а также узы и темницу,

37 T hey were stoned, were sawn asunder, were tempted, died by the death of the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, destitute, afflicted, evil treated,

были побиваемы камнями, перепиливаемы, подвергаемы пытке, умирали от меча, скитались в милотях и козьих кожах, терпя недостатки, скорби, озлобления;

38 ( of whom the world was not worthy,) wandering in deserts and mountains, and dens and caverns of the earth.

те, которых весь мир не был достоин, скитались по пустыням и горам, по пещерам и ущельям земли.

39 A nd these all, having obtained witness through faith, did not receive the promise,

И все сии, свидетельствованные в вере, не получили обещанного,

40 G od having foreseen some better thing for us, that they should not be made perfect without us.

потому что Бог предусмотрел о нас нечто лучшее, дабы они не без нас достигли совершенства.
