1 T hus did Jehovah shew unto me; and behold, a basket of summer-fruit.

Такое видение открыл мне Господь Бог: вот корзина со спелыми плодами.

2 A nd he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer-fruit. And Jehovah said unto me, The end is come upon my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.

И сказал Он: что ты видишь, Амос? Я ответил: корзину со спелыми плодами. Тогда Господь сказал мне: приспел конец народу Моему, Израилю: не буду более прощать ему.

3 A nd the songs of the palace shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah. The dead bodies shall be many; in every place they shall be cast forth. Silence!

Песни чертога в тот день обратятся в рыдание, говорит Господь Бог; много будет трупов, на всяком месте будут бросать их молча.

4 H ear this, ye that pant after the needy, even to cause to fail the poor of the land,

Выслушайте это, алчущие поглотить бедных и погубить нищих, --

5 s aying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat? making the ephah small and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances for deceit:

вы, которые говорите: 'когда-то пройдет новолуние, чтобы нам продавать хлеб, и суббота, чтобы открыть житницы, уменьшить меру, увеличить цену сикля и обманывать неверными весами,

6 t hat we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; and that we may sell the refuse of the wheat.

чтобы покупать неимущих за серебро и бедных за пару обуви, а высевки из хлеба продавать'.

7 J ehovah hath sworn by the glory of Jacob, Certainly I will never forget any of their works.

Клялся Господь славою Иакова: поистине во веки не забуду ни одного из дел их!

8 S hall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? And it shall wholly rise up like the Nile; and it shall surge and sink down, as the river of Egypt.

Не поколеблется ли от этого земля, и не восплачет ли каждый, живущий на ней? Взволнуется вся она, как река, и будет подниматься и опускаться, как река Египетская.

9 A nd it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the land in the clear day.

И будет в тот день, говорит Господь Бог: произведу закат солнца в полдень и омрачу землю среди светлого дня.

10 A nd I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

И обращу праздники ваши в сетование и все песни ваши в плач, и возложу на все чресла вретище и плешь на всякую голову; и произведу плач, как о единственном сыне, и конец ее будет--как горький день.

11 B ehold, days come, saith the Lord Jehovah, when I will send a famine in the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah.

Вот наступают дни, говорит Господь Бог, когда Я пошлю на землю голод, --не голод хлеба, не жажду воды, но жажду слышания слов Господних.

12 A nd they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it.

И будут ходить от моря до моря и скитаться от севера к востоку, ища слова Господня, и не найдут его.

13 I n that day shall the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst;

В тот день истаявать будут от жажды красивые девы и юноши,

14 t hey that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, thy god, O Dan, liveth! and, the way of Beer-sheba liveth! even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

которые клянутся грехом Самарийским и говорят: 'жив бог твой, Дан! и жив путь в Вирсавию!' --Они падут и уже не встанут.
