1 N ow the whole earth had one language and one speech.

2 A nd it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.

3 T hen they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.

E si dissero l'un l'altro: «Orsù, facciamo dei mattoni e cuociamoli col fuoco!». E usarono mattoni invece di pietre e bitume invece di malta.

4 A nd they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

E dissero: «Orsù, costruiamoci una città e una torre la cui cima giunga fino al cielo, e facciamoci un nome, per non essere dispersi sulla faccia di tutta la terra».

5 B ut the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

Ma l'Eterno discese per vedere la città e la torre che i figli degli uomini stavano costruendo.

6 A nd the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.

7 C ome, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

Orsú, scendiamo laggiú e confondiamo la loro lingua, affinché l'uno non comprenda piú il parlare dell'altro».

8 S o the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.

Così l'Eterno li disperse di là sulla faccia di tutta la terra, ed essi cessarono di costruire la città.

9 T herefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. Shem’s Descendants

32 S o the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.

E il tempo che Terah visse fu di duecentocinque anni; poi Terah morì in Haran.
