1 T hen, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead.

Gesú dunque, sei giorni prima della Pasqua, si recò a Betania dove abitava Lazzaro, colui che era morto e che egli aveva risuscitato dai morti.

2 T here they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.

E qui gli fecero un convito, Marta serviva e Lazzaro era uno di quelli che erano a tavola con lui.

3 T hen Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

Maria allora prese una libbra di olio profumato di nardo autentico di gran prezzo, ne unse i piedi di Gesú e li asciugo con i suoi capelli; e la casa fu ripiena del profumo di quest'olio.

4 B ut one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said,

Allora uno dei suoi discepoli, Giuda Iscariota, figlio di Simone, quello che stava per tradirlo, disse:

5 “ Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”

«Perché non si è venduto quest'olio per trecento denari e non si è dato il ricavato ai poveri?».

6 T his he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

Or egli disse questo, non perché si curasse dei poveri, ma perché era ladro e, tenendo la borsa, ne sottraeva ciò che si metteva dentro.

7 B ut Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial.

Gesú dunque disse: «Lasciala; essa l'aveva conservato per il giorno della mia sepoltura.

8 F or the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.” The Plot to Kill Lazarus

I poveri infatti li avete sempre con voi, ma non sempre avete me».

9 N ow a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.

Intanto una grande folla di Giudei seppe che egli era là, e venne non solo a motivo di Gesú, ma anche per vedere Lazzaro che egli aveva risuscitato dai morti.

10 B ut the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also,

Or i capi dei sacerdoti deliberarono di far morire anche Lazzaro,

11 b ecause on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus. The Triumphal Entry

perché a motivo di lui molti lasciavano i Giudei e credevano in Gesú,

12 T he next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

Il giorno seguente, una grande folla che era venuta alla festa, udito che Gesú veniva a Gerusalemme,

13 t ook branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the L ord!’ The King of Israel!”

prese dei rami di palme e uscí incontro a lui, gridando: «Osanna! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore, il re d'Israele!».

14 T hen Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:

E Gesú, trovato un asinello, vi montò sopra come sta scritto:

15 “ Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”

«Non temere, o figlia di Sion; ecco, il tuo re viene, cavalcando un puledro d'asina».

16 H is disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

Or i suoi discepoli non compresero sul momento queste cose, ma quando Gesú fu glorificato, allora si ricordarono che queste cose erano state scritte di lui e che avevano fatte queste cose a lui.

17 T herefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness.

La folla dunque, che era con lui quando aveva chiamato Lazzaro fuori dal sepolcro e l'aveva risuscitato dai morti, gli rendeva testimonianza.

18 F or this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign.

Perciò la folla gli andò incontro, perché aveva udito che egli aveva fatto questo segno.

19 T he Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!” The Fruitful Grain of Wheat

I farisei allora dissero tra di loro: «Vedete che non guadagnate nulla; ecco, il mondo gli va dietro».

20 N ow there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.

Or tra quelli che erano saliti ad adorare a durante la festa c'erano alcuni Greci,

21 T hen they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

Costoro dunque, accostatisi a Filippo, che era di Betsaida di Galilea, lo pregarono dicendo: «Signore, vorremmo vedere Gesú».

22 P hilip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.

Filippo andò a dirlo ad Andrea; a loro volta, Andrea e Filippo lo dissero a Gesú.

23 B ut Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.

Ma Gesú rispose loro, dicendo: «L'ora è venuta, in cui il Figlio dell'uomo deve essere glorificato.

24 M ost assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.

In verità, in verità vi dico: Se il granel di frumento caduto in terra non muore, rimane solo; ma se muore, produce molto frutto.

25 H e who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Chi ama la sua vita la perderà, e chi odia la sua vita in questo mondo la conserverà per la vita eterna.

26 I f anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor. Jesus Predicts His Death on the Cross

Se uno mi serve, mi segua; e là dove sono io, là sarà anche il mio servo; se uno mi serve, il Padre l'onorerà.

27 “ Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

Ora l'anima mia è turbata; e che dirò: Padre, salvami da quest'ora? Ma per questo io sono giunto a quest'ora.

28 F ather, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

Padre, glorifica il tuo nome!». Allora venne una voce dal cielo: «L'ho glorificato e lo glorificherò ancora».

29 T herefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

La folla dunque, che era presente e aveva udito la voce, diceva che era stato un tuono. Altri dicevano: «Un angelo gli ha parlato».

30 J esus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake.

E Gesú rispose e disse: «Questa voce non è venuta per me, ma per voi.

31 N ow is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

Ora è il giudizio di questo mondo ora sarà cacciato fuori il principe di questo mondo.

32 A nd I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

Ed io, quando sarò innalzato dalla terra, attirerò tutti a me».

33 T his He said, signifying by what death He would die.

Or egli diceva questo, per indicare di qual morte egli doveva morire.

34 T he people answered Him, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’ ? Who is this Son of Man?”

La folla gli rispose: «Noi abbiamo appreso dalla legge che il Cristo rimane in eterno; ora come puoi tu dire che il Figlio dell'uomo deve essere innalzato? Chi è questo Figlio dell'uomo?».

35 T hen Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

Gesú allora disse loro: «La luce è con voi ancora per un po'; camminate mentre avete la luce, affinché non vi sorprendano le tenebre; chi cammina nelle tenebre non sa dove va».

36 W hile you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them. Who Has Believed Our Report?

«Mentre avete la luce, credete nella luce, affinché diventiate figli di luce». Queste cose disse Gesú; poi se ne andò e si nascose da loro.

37 B ut although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him,

Sebbene avesse fatto tanti segni davanti a loro, non credevano in lui,

38 t hat the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the L ord been revealed?”

affinché si adempisse la parola detta dal profeta Isaia: «Signore, chi ha creduto alla nostra predicazione? E a chi è stato rivelato il braccio del Signore?».

39 T herefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:

Perciò non potevano credere, perché Isaia disse ancora:

40 “ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”

«Egli ha accecato i loro occhi e ha indurito il loro cuore, perché non vedano con gli occhi, non intendano col cuore, non si convertano e io non li guarisca».

41 T hese things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him. Walk in the Light

Queste cose disse Isaia, quando vide la sua gloria e parlò di lui.

42 N evertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue;

Tuttavia, anche tra i capi, molti credettero in lui; ma a motivo dei farisei non lo confessavano, per non essere espulsi dalla sinagoga,

43 f or they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

perché amavano la gloria degli uomini piú della gloria di Dio.

44 T hen Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me.

Or Gesú gridò e disse: «Chi crede in me, non crede in me, ma in colui che mi ha mandato.

45 A nd he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.

E chi vede me, vede colui che mi ha mandato.

46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.

Io sono venuto come luce per il mondo, affinché chiunque crede in me non resti nelle tenebre.

47 A nd if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.

E se uno ode le mie parole e non crede, io non lo giudico; perché io non sono venuto a giudicare il mondo, ma a salvare il mondo.

48 H e who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

Chi mi respinge e non accoglie le mie parole, ha chi lo giudica; la parola che ho annunziata sarà quella che lo giudicherà nell'ultimo giorno.

49 F or I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.

Perché io non ho parlato da me stesso, ma il Padre stesso mi ha mandato e mi ha comandato ciò che io devo dire ed annunziare.

50 A nd I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”

Ed io so che il suo comandamento è vita eterna; le cose dunque che io dico le dico cosí come il Padre me le ha dette».
