1 “ When the Lord your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you,

»Cuando el Señor tu Dios te haya introducido en la tierra de la que vas a tomar posesión, y haya desalojado delante de ti a muchas naciones, es decir, a los hititas, gergeseos, amorreos, cananeos, ferezeos, jivitas y jebuseos, que son siete naciones más numerosas y más poderosas que tú,

2 a nd when the Lord your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them.

y el Señor tu Dios te las haya entregado y las hayas derrotado, deberás destruirlas totalmente. No harás con ellas ninguna alianza, ni les tendrás misericordia.

3 F urthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons.

Tampoco deberás emparentar con ellas. No darás tus hijas a sus hijos, ni tomarás a sus hijas para tus hijos,

4 F or they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods; then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you and He will quickly destroy you.

porque harán que tus hijos dejen de seguirme, para seguir y servir a dioses ajenos. Entonces el furor del Señor se encenderá sobre ustedes, y los destruirá en un instante.

5 B ut thus you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire.

Lo que ustedes deberán hacer con ellos es destruir sus altares, hacer pedazos sus estatuas, destruir sus imágenes de Asera, y echar al fuego sus esculturas. Un pueblo santo para el Señor

6 F or you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

»Tú eres un pueblo santo para el Señor tu Dios. El Señor tu Dios te ha escogido para que le seas un pueblo especial, por encima de todos los pueblos que están sobre la tierra.

7 “ The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples,

El Señor los quiere, y los ha escogido, no porque ustedes sean más numerosos que todos los pueblos, pues ustedes eran el pueblo más insignificante de todos,

8 b ut because the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the Lord brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

sino porque el Señor los ama y porque quiso cumplir el juramento que les hizo a sus padres. Por eso el Señor los ha sacado con mano poderosa; por eso los ha rescatado de la esclavitud y del poder del faraón, el rey de Egipto.

9 K now therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments;

Sábelo bien: el Señor tu Dios es Dios, el Dios fiel que cumple con su pacto y su misericordia con aquellos que lo aman y cumplen sus mandamientos, hasta mil generaciones;

10 b ut repays those who hate Him to their faces, to destroy them; He will not delay with him who hates Him, He will repay him to his face.

pero que da su merecido a quien lo aborrece. A quien lo odia, no se tarda en destruirlo; él mismo le da su merecido.

11 T herefore, you shall keep the commandment and the statutes and the judgments which I am commanding you today, to do them. Promises of God

Así que cumple con los mandamientos, estatutos y decretos que hoy te mando cumplir. Bendiciones de la obediencia

12 “ Then it shall come about, because you listen to these judgments and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you His covenant and His lovingkindness which He swore to your forefathers.

»Si después de oír estos decretos, los cumples y los pones por obra, el Señor tu Dios cumplirá contigo el pacto que hizo con tus padres y te mostrará su misericordia.

13 H e will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock, in the land which He swore to your forefathers to give you.

Te amará y te bendecirá; te multiplicará y bendecirá el fruto de tu vientre, y en la tierra que juró dar a tus padres bendecirá el fruto de tu tierra: tu trigo, tu mosto, tu aceite, y las crías de tus vacas y tus rebaños de ovejas.

14 Y ou shall be blessed above all peoples; there will be no male or female barren among you or among your cattle.

¡Bendito serás, por encima de todos los pueblos! No habrá en ti hombre ni mujer que sea estéril, ni tampoco entre tus ganados.

15 T he Lord will remove from you all sickness; and He will not put on you any of the harmful diseases of Egypt which you have known, but He will lay them on all who hate you.

El Señor alejará de ti toda enfermedad. No enviará sobre ti ninguna de las plagas malignas que envió sobre Egipto, y que tú conoces, aunque sí las enviará sobre todos los que te aborrezcan.

16 Y ou shall consume all the peoples whom the Lord your God will deliver to you; your eye shall not pity them, nor shall you serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.

Tú acabarás con todos los pueblos que el Señor tu Dios te entrega; no los perdones, ni sirvas a sus dioses, porque serán para ti un tropiezo.

17 “ If you should say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’

»Si acaso llegas a decir en tu corazón: “Estas naciones son mucho más numerosas que yo; ¿cómo las podré exterminar?”,

18 y ou shall not be afraid of them; you shall well remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:

no les tengas miedo, sino acuérdate bien de lo que el Señor tu Dios hizo con el faraón y con todo Egipto;

19 t he great trials which your eyes saw and the signs and the wonders and the mighty hand and the outstretched arm by which the Lord your God brought you out. So shall the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

acuérdate de las grandes pruebas que vieron tus ojos, de las señales y milagros, y de la mano poderosa y el brazo extendido con que el Señor tu Dios te sacó de allá. ¡Y eso mismo hará el Señor tu Dios con todos los pueblos de cuya presencia ahora tienes miedo!

20 M oreover, the Lord your God will send the hornet against them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you perish.

El Señor tu Dios también enviará avispas sobre ellos, hasta que mueran los que sobrevivan y los que se hayan escondido de ti.

21 Y ou shall not dread them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God.

No te desanimes al verlos, porque el Señor tu Dios es un Dios grande y temible, y está en medio de ti.

22 T he Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly, for the wild beasts would grow too numerous for you.

Poco a poco el Señor tu Dios desalojará a esas naciones delante de ti. No podrás acabar con ellas enseguida, para que no aumente contra ti el número de las fieras del campo.

23 B ut the Lord your God will deliver them before you, and will throw them into great confusion until they are destroyed.

Pero el Señor tu Dios las pondrá en tus manos, y las despedazará por completo, hasta que sean totalmente destruidas.

24 H e will deliver their kings into your hand so that you will make their name perish from under heaven; no man will be able to stand before you until you have destroyed them.

El Señor pondrá en tus manos a sus reyes, y tú borrarás su memoria debajo del cielo. Nadie podrá hacerte frente, hasta que los destruyas.

25 T he graven images of their gods you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or you will be snared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.

Echarás al fuego las esculturas de sus dioses, y no codiciarás su plata ni su oro, ni te quedarás con ello, para que no te sean un tropiezo, pues para el Señor tu Dios son algo repugnante.

26 Y ou shall not bring an abomination into your house, and like it come under the ban; you shall utterly detest it and you shall utterly abhor it, for it is something banned.

No llevarás a tu casa nada que sea repugnante, para que no seas destruido. Todo eso lo aborrecerás y lo desecharás, porque está condenado a la destrucción.
