1 A sí me dijo el SEÑOR: Ve, y cómprate un cinto de lino, y cíñelo sobre tus lomos, y no lo meterás en agua.

Thus the Lord said to me: “Go and get yourself a linen sash, and put it around your waist, but do not put it in water.”

2 Y compré el cinto conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR, y lo puse sobre mis lomos.

So I got a sash according to the word of the Lord, and put it around my waist.

3 Y vino a mí segunda vez palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo:

And the word of the Lord came to me the second time, saying,

4 T oma el cinto que compraste, que está sobre tus lomos, y levántate, y ve al Eufrates, y escóndelo allá en una caverna de una peña.

“Take the sash that you acquired, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole in the rock.”

5 Y fui, y lo escondí en el Eufrates, como el SEÑOR me mandó.

So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the Lord commanded me.

6 Y sucedió que al cabo de muchos días me dijo el SEÑOR: Levántate, y ve al Eufrates, y toma de allí el cinto que te mandé escondieras allá.

Now it came to pass after many days that the Lord said to me, “Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the sash which I commanded you to hide there.”

7 E ntonces fui al Eufrates, y cavé, y tomé el cinto del lugar donde lo había escondido; y he aquí que el cinto se había podrido; para ninguna cosa era bueno.

Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the sash from the place where I had hidden it; and there was the sash, ruined. It was profitable for nothing.

8 Y vino palabra del SEÑOR a mí, diciendo:

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

9 A sí dijo el SEÑOR: Así haré podrir la soberbia de Judá, y la mucha soberbia de Jerusalén,

“Thus says the Lord: ‘In this manner I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.

10 A este pueblo malo, que no quiere oír mis palabras, que anda en las imaginaciones de su corazón, y se fue en pos de dioses ajenos para servirles, y para encorvarse a ellos; y vendrá a ser como este cinto, que para ninguna cosa es bueno.

This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing.

11 P orque como el cinto se junta a los lomos del hombre, así hice juntar a mí toda la Casa de Israel y toda la Casa de Judá, dice el SEÑOR, para que me fueran por pueblo y por fama, y por alabanza y por honra; pero no escucharon.

For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,’ says the Lord, ‘that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’ Symbol of the Wine Bottles

12 L es dirás, pues, esta palabra: Así dijo el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: Se llenará de vino todo odre. Y ellos te dirán: ¿Por ventura no sabemos que todo odre se llenará de vino?

“Therefore you shall speak to them this word: ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “Every bottle shall be filled with wine.”’ And they will say to you, ‘Do we not certainly know that every bottle will be filled with wine?’

13 E ntonces les has de decir: Así dijo el SEÑOR: He aquí que yo lleno de embriaguez a todos los moradores de esta tierra, y a los reyes que están sentados por David sobre su trono, y a los sacerdotes y los profetas, y todos a los moradores de Jerusalén;

“Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land—even the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness!

14 y los quebrantaré el uno con el otro, los padres con los hijos juntamente, dice el SEÑOR: no perdonaré, ni tendré piedad, ni misericordia para no destruirlos.

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together,” says the Lord. “I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them.”’” Pride Precedes Captivity

15 E scuchad y oíd; no os elevéis, porque el SEÑOR habló.

Hear and give ear: Do not be proud, For the Lord has spoken.

16 D ad gloria al SEÑOR Dios vuestro, antes que haga venir tinieblas, y antes que vuestros pies tropiecen en montes de oscuridad, y esperéis luz, y os la torne en sombra de muerte y tinieblas.

Give glory to the Lord your God Before He causes darkness, And before your feet stumble On the dark mountains, And while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death And makes it dense darkness.

17 M as si no oyereis esto, en secreto llorará mi alma a causa de vuestra soberbia; y llorando amargamente, se desharán mis ojos en lágrimas, porque el rebaño del SEÑOR fue cautivo.

But if you will not hear it, My soul will weep in secret for your pride; My eyes will weep bitterly And run down with tears, Because the Lord ’s flock has been taken captive.

18 D i al rey y a la reina: Humillaos, sentaos en tierra; porque la corona de vuestra gloria bajó de vuestras cabezas.

Say to the king and to the queen mother, “Humble yourselves; Sit down, For your rule shall collapse, the crown of your glory.”

19 L as ciudades del Mediodía fueron cerradas, y no hubo quien las abriera; toda Judá fue transportada, transportada fue toda ella.

The cities of the South shall be shut up, And no one shall open them; Judah shall be carried away captive, all of it; It shall be wholly carried away captive.

20 A lzad vuestros ojos, y ved los que vienen del aquilón; ¿dónde está el rebaño que te fue dado, el ganado de tu hermosura?

Lift up your eyes and see Those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given to you, Your beautiful sheep?

21 ¿ Qué dirás cuando te visitará? Porque tú les enseñaste a ser príncipes y cabeza sobre ti. ¿No te tomarán dolores como a mujer que está de parto?

What will you say when He punishes you? For you have taught them To be chieftains, to be head over you. Will not pangs seize you, Like a woman in labor?

22 C uando dijeres en tu corazón: ¿Por qué me ha sobrevenido esto? Por la enormidad de tu iniquidad fueron descubiertas tus faldas, fueron desnudos tus calcañares.

And if you say in your heart, “Why have these things come upon me?” For the greatness of your iniquity Your skirts have been uncovered, Your heels made bare.

23 ¿ Por ventura mudará el negro su pellejo, y el leopardo sus manchas? Así tampoco, podréis vosotros hacer bien, estando enseñados a hacer mal.

Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Then may you also do good who are accustomed to do evil.

24 P or tanto, yo los esparciré, como tamo que pasa, al viento del desierto.

“Therefore I will scatter them like stubble That passes away by the wind of the wilderness.

25 E sta será tu suerte, la porción de tus medidas de parte mía, dijo el SEÑOR; porque te olvidaste de mí, y confiaste en la mentira.

This is your lot, The portion of your measures from Me,” says the Lord, “Because you have forgotten Me And trusted in falsehood.

26 Y o, también, descubrí tus faldas delante de tu cara, y tu vergüenza se manifestó.

Therefore I will uncover your skirts over your face, That your shame may appear.

27 T us adulterios, tus relinchos, la maldad de tu fornicación sobre los collados; en el mismo campo vi tus abominaciones. ¡Ay de ti, Jerusalén! ¿No serás limpia al fin? ¿Hasta cuándo pues?

I have seen your adulteries And your lustful neighings, The lewdness of your harlotry, Your abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! Will you still not be made clean?”
