1 ¶ Después llegó a Derbe, y a Listra; y he aquí, estaba allí un discípulo llamado Timoteo, hijo de una mujer judía fiel, mas de padre gentil.

Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain Jewish woman who believed, but his father was Greek.

2 D e éste daban buen testimonio los hermanos que estaban en Listra y en Iconio.

He was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium.

3 P ablo quiso que éste fuera con él; y tomándole, le circuncidó por causa de los judíos que estaban en aquellos lugares; porque todos sabían que su padre era griego.

Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in that region, for they all knew that his father was Greek.

4 Y cuando pasaban por las ciudades, les daban que guardaran los decretos que habían sido determinados por los apóstoles y los ancianos que estaban en Jerusalén.

And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem.

5 A sí que, las Iglesias eran confirmadas en la fe, y eran aumentadas en número cada día.

So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily. The Macedonian Call

6 ¶ Y pasando a Frigia y la provincia de Galacia, les fue prohibido por el Espíritu Santo hablar la Palabra en Asia.

Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.

7 C uando llegaron a Misia, intentaron de ir a Bitinia; mas el Espíritu no les dejó.

After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.

8 Y pasando a Misia, descendieron a Troas.

So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.

9 Y fue mostrada a Pablo de noche una visión: Un varón Macedonio se puso delante, rogándole, y diciendo: Pasa a Macedonia, y ayúdanos.

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

10 Y como vio la visión, luego procuramos partir a Macedonia, dando por cierto que Dios nos llamaba para que les anunciáramos el Evangelio.

Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them. Lydia Baptized at Philippi

11 P artidos pues de Troas, vinimos camino derecho a Samotracia, y el día siguiente a Neápolis;

Therefore, sailing from Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, and the next day came to Neapolis,

12 y de allí a Filipos, que es la primera ciudad de la parte de Macedonia, y una colonia; y estuvimos en aquella ciudad algunos días.

and from there to Philippi, which is the foremost city of that part of Macedonia, a colony. And we were staying in that city for some days.

13 Y un día de los sábados salimos de la puerta junto al río, donde solía ser la oración; y sentándonos, hablamos a las mujeres que se habían juntado.

And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there.

14 E ntonces una mujer llamada Lidia, que vendía púrpura en la ciudad de Tiatira, temerosa de Dios, estaba oyendo; el corazón de la cual abrió el Señor para que estuviera atenta a lo que Pablo decía.

Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.

15 Y cuando fue bautizada, con su casa, nos rogó, diciendo: Si habéis juzgado que yo sea fiel al Señor, entrad en mi casa, y posad; y nos constriñó.

And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us. Paul and Silas Imprisoned

16 ¶ Y aconteció, que yendo nosotros a la oración, una muchacha que tenía espíritu pitónico, nos salió al encuentro, la cual daba grande ganancia a sus amos adivinando.

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.

17 E sta, siguiendo a Pablo y a nosotros, daba voces, diciendo: Estos hombres son siervos del Dios Alto, los cuales os anuncian el camino de salud.

This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.”

18 Y esto hacía por muchos días; mas desagradando esto a Pablo, se volvió y dijo al espíritu: Te mando en el Nombre de Jesús, el Cristo, que salgas de ella. Y salió en la misma hora.

And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

19 Y viendo sus amos que había salido la esperanza de su ganancia, prendieron a Pablo y a Silas, y los trajeron al foro, ante el magistrado;

But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.

20 y presentándolos a los magistrados, dijeron: Estos hombres, siendo judíos, alborotan nuestra ciudad,

And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city;

21 y predican ritos, los cuales no nos es lícito recibir ni hacer, pues somos romanos.

and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.”

22 Y se agolpó el pueblo contra ellos; y los magistrados rompiéndoles sus ropas, les mandaron azotar con varas.

Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.

23 Y después que los hirieron de muchos azotes, los echaron en la cárcel, mandando al carcelero que los guardara con diligencia;

And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.

24 e l cual, recibido este mandamiento, los metió en la cárcel de más adentro; y les apretó los pies en el cepo.

Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. The Philippian Jailer Saved

25 ¶ Mas a medianoche, orando Pablo y Silas, cantaban himnos a Dios; y los que estaban presos los oían.

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

26 E ntonces fue hecho de repente un gran terremoto, de tal manera que los cimientos de la cárcel se movían; y luego todas las puertas se abrieron, y las prisiones de todos soltaron.

Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.

27 Y despertado el carcelero, como vio abiertas las puertas de la cárcel, sacando la espada se quería matar, pensando que los presos habían huido.

And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself.

28 E ntonces Pablo clamó a gran voz, diciendo: No te hagas ningún mal; que todos estamos aquí.

But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

29 E l entonces pidiendo luz, entró dentro, y temblando, se derribó a los pies de Pablo y de Silas;

Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.

30 y sacándolos fuera, les dice: Señores, ¿qué es necesario que yo haga para ser salvo?

And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

31 Y ellos dijeron: Cree en el Señor Jesús, el Cristo, y serás salvo tú, y tu casa.

So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

32 Y le hablaron la Palabra del Señor, y a todos los que estaban en su casa.

Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.

33 Y tomándolos él en aquella misma hora de la noche, les lavó las heridas; y se bautizó luego él, y todos los suyos.

And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.

34 Y llevándolos a su casa, les puso la mesa; y se gozó de que con toda su casa había creído a Dios.

Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household. Paul Refuses to Depart Secretly

35 ¶ Cuando fue de día, los magistrados enviaron los alguaciles, diciendo: Deja ir a aquellos hombres.

And when it was day, the magistrates sent the officers, saying, “Let those men go.”

36 Y el carcelero hizo saber estas palabras a Pablo: Los magistrados han enviado a decir que seas suelto; así que ahora salid, e id en paz.

So the keeper of the prison reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go. Now therefore depart, and go in peace.”

37 E ntonces Pablo les dijo: Azotados públicamente sin ser condenados, siendo hombres romanos, nos echaron en la cárcel; y ¿ahora nos echan encubiertamente? No, de cierto, sino vengan ellos y sáquennos.

But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us openly, uncondemned Romans, and have thrown us into prison. And now do they put us out secretly? No indeed! Let them come themselves and get us out.”

38 Y los alguaciles volvieron a decir a los magistrados estas palabras; y tuvieron miedo, oído que eran romanos.

And the officers told these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans.

39 Y viniendo, les rogaron; y sacándolos, les pidieron que se salieran de la ciudad.

Then they came and pleaded with them and brought them out, and asked them to depart from the city.

40 E ntonces salidos de la cárcel, entraron en casa de Lidia; y habiendo visto a los hermanos, los consolaron, y se salieron.

So they went out of the prison and entered the house of Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.
