1 N ão tenha inveja dos ímpios, nem deseje a companhia deles;

Be not thou envious against evil men; Neither desire to be with them:

2 p ois destruição é o que planejam no coração, e só falam de violência.

For their heart studieth oppression, And their lips talk of mischief.

3 C om sabedoria se constrói a casa, e com discernimento se consolida.

Through wisdom is a house builded; And by understanding it is established;

4 P elo conhecimento os seus cômodos se enchem do que é precioso e agradável.

And by knowledge are the chambers filled With all precious and pleasant riches.

5 O homem sábio é poderoso, e quem tem conhecimento aumenta a sua força;

A wise man is strong; Yea, a man of knowledge increaseth might,

6 q uem sai à guerra precisa de orientação, e com muitos conselheiros se obtém a vitória.

For by wise guidance thou shalt make thy war; And in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

7 A sabedoria é elevada demais para o insensato; ele não sabe o que dizer nas assembléias.

Wisdom is too high for a fool: He openeth not his mouth in the gate.

8 Q uem maquina o mal será conhecido como criador de intrigas.

He that deviseth to do evil, Men shall call him a mischief-maker.

9 A intriga do insensato é pecado, e o zombador é detestado pelos homens.

The thought of foolishness is sin; And the scoffer is an abomination to men.

10 S e você vacila no dia da dificuldade, como será limitada a sua força!

If thou faint in the day of adversity, Thy strength is small.

11 L iberte os que estão sendo levados para a morte; socorra os que caminham trêmulos para a matança!

Deliver them that are carried away unto death, And those that are ready to be slain see that thou hold back.

12 M esmo que você diga: “Não sabíamos o que estava acontecendo!” Não o perceberia aquele que pesa os corações? Não o saberia aquele que preserva a sua vida? Não retribuirá ele a cada um segundo o seu procedimento?

If thou sayest, Behold, we knew not this; Doth not he that weigheth the hearts consider it? And he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? And shall not he render to every man according to his work?

13 C oma mel, meu filho. É bom. O favo é doce ao paladar.

My son, eat thou honey, for it is good; And the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to thy taste:

14 S aiba que a sabedoria também será boa para a sua alma; se você a encontrar, certamente haverá futuro para você, e a sua esperança não vai decepcioná-lo.

So shalt thou know wisdom to be unto thy soul; If thou hast found it, then shall there be a reward, And thy hope shall not be cut off.

15 N ão fique de tocaia, como faz o ímpio, contra a casa do justo, e não destrua o seu local de repouso,

Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous; Destroy not his resting-place:

16 p ois ainda que o justo caia sete vezes, tornará a erguer-se, mas os ímpios são arrastados pela calamidade.

For a righteous man falleth seven times, and riseth up again; But the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

17 N ão se alegre quando o seu inimigo cair, nem exulte o seu coração quando ele tropeçar,

Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, And let not thy heart be glad when he is overthrown;

18 p ara que o Senhor não veja isso, e se desagrade, e desvie dele a sua ira.

Lest Jehovah see it, and it displease him, And he turn away his wrath from him.

19 N ão se aborreça por causa dos maus, nem tenha inveja dos ímpios,

Fret not thyself because of evil-doers; Neither be thou envious at the wicked:

20 p ois não há futuro para o mau, e a lâmpada dos ímpios se apagará.

For there shall be no reward to the evil man; The lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

21 T ema o Senhor e o rei, meu filho, e não se associe aos dissidentes,

My son, fear thou Jehovah and the king; And company not with them that are given to change:

22 p ois terão repentina destruição, e quem pode imaginar a ruína que o Senhor e o rei podem causar? Outros Ditados de Sabedoria

For their calamity shall rise suddenly; And the destruction from them both, who knoweth it?

23 A qui vão outros ditados dos sábios: Agir com parcialidade nos julgamentos não é nada bom.

These also are sayings of the wise. To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.

24 Q uem disser ao ímpio: “Você é justo”, será amaldiçoado pelos povos e sofrerá a indignação das nações.

He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; Peoples shall curse him, nations shall abhor him:

25 M as os que condenam o culpado terão vida agradável; receberão grandes bênçãos.

But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, And a good blessing shall come upon them.

26 A resposta sincera é como beijo nos lábios.

He kisseth the lips Who giveth a right answer.

27 T ermine primeiro o seu trabalho a céu aberto; deixe pronta a sua lavoura. Depois constitua família.

Prepare thy work without, And make it ready for thee in the field; And afterwards build thy house.

28 N ão testemunhe sem motivo contra o seu próximo nem use os seus lábios para enganá-lo.

Be not a witness against thy neighbor without cause; And deceive not with thy lips.

29 N ão diga: “Farei com ele o que fez comigo; ele pagará pelo que fez”.

Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.

30 P assei pelo campo do preguiçoso, pela vinha do homem sem juízo;

I went by the field of the sluggard, And by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31 h avia espinheiros por toda parte, o chão estava coberto de ervas daninhas e o muro de pedra estava em ruínas.

And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, The face thereof was covered with nettles, And the stone wall thereof was broken down.

32 O bservei aquilo, e fiquei pensando; olhei, e aprendi esta lição:

Then I beheld, and considered well; I saw, and received instruction:

33 “ Vou dormir um pouco”, você diz. “Vou cochilar um momento; vou cruzar os braços e descansar mais um pouco”,

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep;

34 m as a pobreza lhe sobrevirá como um assaltante, e a sua miséria como um homem armado.

So shall thy poverty come as a robber, And thy want as an armed man.
