1 N aquele mesmo dia, o rei Xerxes deu à rainha Ester todos os bens de Hamã, o inimigo dos judeus. E Mardoqueu foi trazido à presença do rei, pois Ester lhe dissera que ele era seu parente.

On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her.

2 O rei tirou seu anel-selo, que havia tomado de Hamã, e o deu a Mardoqueu; e Ester o nomeou administrador dos bens de Hamã.

And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

3 M as Ester tornou a implorar ao rei, chorando aos seus pés, que revogasse o plano maligno de Hamã, o agagita, contra os judeus.

And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.

4 E ntão o rei estendeu o cetro de ouro para Ester, e ela se levantou diante dele e disse:

Then the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre. So Esther arose, and stood before the king.

5 “ Se for do agrado do rei, se posso contar com o seu favor, e se ele considerar justo, que se escreva uma ordem revogando as cartas que Hamã, filho do agagita Hamedata, escreveu para que os judeus fossem exterminados em todas as províncias do império.

And she said, If it please the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews that are in all the king's provinces:

6 P ois, como suportarei ver a desgraça que cairá sobre o meu povo? Como suportarei a destruição da minha própria família?”

for how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?

7 O rei Xerxes respondeu à rainha Ester e ao judeu Mardoqueu: “Mandei enforcar Hamã e dei os seus bens a Ester porque ele atentou contra os judeus.

Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.

8 E screvam agora outro decreto em nome do rei, em favor dos judeus, como melhor lhes parecer, e selem-no com o anel-selo do rei, pois nenhum documento escrito em nome do rei e selado com o seu anel pode ser revogado”.

Write ye also to the Jews, as it pleaseth you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring; for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse.

9 I sso aconteceu no vigésimo terceiro dia do terceiro mês, o mês de sivã. Os secretários do rei foram imediatamente convocados e escreveram todas as ordens de Mardoqueu aos judeus, aos sátrapas, aos governadores e aos nobres das cento e vinte e sete províncias que se estendiam da Índia até a Etiópia. Essas ordens foram redigidas na língua e na escrita de cada província e de cada povo, e também na língua e na escrita dos judeus.

Then were the king's scribes called at that time, in the third month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the satraps, and the governors and princes of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, a hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.

10 M ardoqueu escreveu em nome do rei Xerxes, selou as cartas com o anel-selo do rei, e as enviou por meio de mensageiros montados em cavalos velozes, das estrebarias do próprio rei.

And he wrote the name of king Ahasuerus, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by post on horseback, riding on swift steeds that were used in the king's service, bred of the stud:

11 O decreto do rei concedia aos judeus de cada cidade o direito de se reunirem e de se protegerem, de destruir, matar e aniquilar qualquer força armada de qualquer povo ou província que os ameaçasse, a eles, suas mulheres e seus filhos, e o direito de saquear os bens dos seus inimigos.

wherein the king granted the Jews that were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, their little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,

12 O decreto entrou em vigor nas províncias do rei Xerxes no décimo terceiro dia do décimo segundo mês, o mês de adar.

upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.

13 U ma cópia do decreto foi publicada como lei em cada província e levada ao conhecimento do povo de cada nação, a fim de que naquele dia os judeus estivessem prontos para vingar-se dos seus inimigos.

A copy of the writing, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published unto all the peoples, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.

14 O s mensageiros, montando cavalos das estrebarias do rei, saíram a galope, por causa da ordem do rei. O decreto também foi publicado na cidadela de Susã.

So the posts that rode upon swift steeds that were used in the king's service went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment; and the decree was given out in Shushan the palace.

15 M ardoqueu saiu da presença do rei usando vestes reais em azul e branco, uma grande coroa de ouro e um manto púrpura de linho fino. E a cidadela de Susã exultava de alegria.

And Mordecai went forth from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a robe of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan shouted and was glad.

16 P ara os judeus foi uma ocasião de felicidade, alegria, júbilo e honra.

The Jews had light and gladness, and joy and honor.

17 E m cada província e em cada cidade, onde quer que chegasse o decreto do rei, havia alegria e júbilo entre os judeus, com banquetes e festas. Muitos que pertenciam a outros povos do reino tornaram-se judeus, porque o temor dos judeus tinha se apoderado deles.

And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had gladness and joy, a feast and a good day. And many from among the peoples of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews was fallen upon them.
