1 J esus went out from there and came into His hometown; and His disciples followed Him.

El se marchó de allí y llegó a su pueblo; y sus discípulos le siguieron.

2 W hen the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands?

Cuando llegó el día de reposo, comenzó a enseñar en la sinagoga; y muchos que le escuchaban se asombraban, diciendo: ¿Dónde obtuvo éste tales cosas, y cuál es esta sabiduría que le ha sido dada, y estos milagros que hace con sus manos?

3 I s not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?” And they took offense at Him.

¿No es éste el carpintero, el hijo de María, y hermano de Jacobo, José, Judas y Simón ? ¿No están sus hermanas aquí con nosotros? Y se escandalizaban a causa de El.

4 J esus said to them, “ A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household.”

Y Jesús les dijo: No hay profeta sin honra sino en su propia tierra, y entre sus parientes, y en su casa.

5 A nd He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.

Y no pudo hacer allí ningún milagro; sólo sanó a unos pocos enfermos sobre los cuales puso sus manos.

6 A nd He wondered at their unbelief. And He was going around the villages teaching. The Twelve Sent Out

Y estaba maravillado de la incredulidad de ellos. Y recorría las aldeas de alrededor enseñando. Jesús envía a los doce

7 A nd He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits;

Entonces llamó a los doce y comenzó a enviarlos de dos en dos, dándoles autoridad sobre los espíritus inmundos;

8 a nd He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belt—

y les ordenó que no llevaran nada para el camino, sino sólo un bordón; ni pan, ni alforja, ni dinero en el cinto;

9 b ut to wear sandals; and He added, “Do not put on two tunics.”

sino calzados con sandalias. No llevéis dos túnicas

10 A nd He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town.

—les dijo— y dondequiera que entréis en una casa, quedaos allí hasta que salgáis de la población.

11 A ny place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them.”

Y en cualquier lugar que no os reciban ni os escuchen, al salir de allí, sacudid el polvo de la planta de vuestros pies en testimonio contra ellos.

12 T hey went out and preached that men should repent.

Y saliendo, predicaban que todos se arrepintieran.

13 A nd they were casting out many demons and were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them. John’s Fate Recalled

Y echaban fuera muchos demonios, y ungían con aceite a muchos enfermos y los sanaban. Muerte de Juan el Bautista

14 A nd King Herod heard of it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying, “ John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”

El rey Herodes se enteró de esto, pues el nombre de Jesús se había hecho célebre, y la gente decía: Juan el Bautista ha resucitado de entre los muertos, por eso es que estos poderes milagrosos actúan en él.

15 B ut others were saying, “He is Elijah.” And others were saying, “ He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”

Pero otros decían: Es Elías. Y decían otros: Es un profeta, como uno de los profetas antiguos.

16 B ut when Herod heard of it, he kept saying, “John, whom I beheaded, has risen!”

Y al oír esto Herodes, decía: Juan, a quien yo decapité, ha resucitado.

17 F or Herod himself had sent and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her.

Porque Herodes mismo había enviado a prender a Juan y lo había encadenado en la cárcel por causa de Herodías, mujer de su hermano Felipe, pues Herodes se había casado con ella.

18 F or John had been saying to Herod, “ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”

Porque Juan le decía a Herodes: No te es lícito tener la mujer de tu hermano.

19 H erodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death and could not do so;

Y Herodías le tenía rencor y deseaba matarlo, pero no podía,

20 f or Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was very perplexed; but he used to enjoy listening to him.

porque Herodes temía a Juan, sabiendo que era un hombre justo y santo, y lo mantenía protegido. Y cuando le oía se quedaba muy perplejo, pero le gustaba escucharlo.

21 A strategic day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his lords and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee;

Pero llegó un día oportuno, cuando Herodes, siendo su cumpleaños, ofreció un banquete a sus nobles y comandantes y a los principales de Galilea;

22 a nd when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”

y cuando la hija misma de Herodías entró y danzó, agradó a Herodes y a los que se sentaban a la mesa con él; y el rey dijo a la muchacha: Pídeme lo que quieras y te lo daré.

23 A nd he swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you; up to half of my kingdom.”

Y le juró: Te daré lo que me pidas, hasta la mitad de mi reino.

24 A nd she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.”

Ella salió y dijo a su madre: ¿Qué pediré? Y ella le respondió: La cabeza de Juan el Bautista.

25 I mmediately she came in a hurry to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”

Enseguida ella se presentó apresuradamente ante el rey con su petición, diciendo: Quiero que me des ahora mismo la cabeza de Juan el Bautista en una bandeja.

26 A nd although the king was very sorry, yet because of his oaths and because of his dinner guests, he was unwilling to refuse her.

Y aunque el rey se puso muy triste, sin embargo a causa de sus juramentos y de los que se sentaban con él a la mesa, no quiso desairarla.

27 I mmediately the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring back his head. And he went and had him beheaded in the prison,

Y al instante el rey envió a un verdugo y le ordenó que trajera la cabeza de Juan. Y él fue y lo decapitó en la cárcel,

28 a nd brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother.

y trajo su cabeza en una bandeja, y se la dio a la muchacha, y la muchacha se la dio a su madre.

29 W hen his disciples heard about this, they came and took away his body and laid it in a tomb.

Cuando sus discípulos oyeron esto, fueron y se llevaron el cuerpo y le dieron sepultura. Alimentación de los cinco mil

30 T he apostles gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught.

Los apóstoles se reunieron con Jesús, y le informaron sobre todo lo que habían hecho y enseñado.

31 A nd He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)

Y El les dijo: Venid, apartaos de los demás a un lugar solitario y descansad un poco. (Porque había muchos que iban y venían, y ellos no tenían tiempo ni siquiera para comer.)

32 T hey went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves. Five Thousand Fed

Y se fueron en la barca a un lugar solitario, apartado.

33 T he people saw them going, and many recognized them and ran there together on foot from all the cities, and got there ahead of them.

Pero la gente los vio partir, y muchos los reconocieron y juntos corrieron allá a pie de todas las ciudades, y llegaron antes que ellos.

34 W hen Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.

Al desembarcar, El vio una gran multitud, y tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas sin pastor; y comenzó a enseñarles muchas cosas.

35 W hen it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said, “ This place is desolate and it is already quite late;

Y cuando era ya muy tarde, sus discípulos se le acercaron, diciendo: El lugar está desierto y ya es muy tarde;

36 s end them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

despídelos para que vayan a los campos y aldeas de alrededor, y se compren algo de comer.

37 B ut He answered them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii on bread and give them something to eat?”

Pero respondiendo El, les dijo: Dadles vosotros de comer. Y ellos le dijeron: ¿ Quieres que vayamos y compremos doscientos denarios de pan y les demos de comer ?

38 A nd He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look!” And when they found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.”

Y El les dijo: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Id y ved. Y cuando se cercioraron le dijeron: Cinco, y dos peces.

39 A nd He commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass.

Y les mandó que todos se recostaran por grupos sobre la hierba verde.

40 T hey sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties.

Y se recostaron por grupos de cien y de cincuenta.

41 A nd He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all.

Entonces El tomó los cinco panes y los dos peces, y levantando los ojos al cielo, los bendijo, y partió los panes y los iba dando a los discípulos para que se los sirvieran; también repartió los dos peces entre todos.

42 T hey all ate and were satisfied,

Todos comieron y se saciaron.

43 a nd they picked up twelve full baskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish.

Y recogieron doce cestas llenas de los pedazos, y también de los peces.

44 T here were five thousand men who ate the loaves. Jesus Walks on the Water

Los que comieron los panes eran cinco mil hombres. Jesús anda sobre el mar

45 I mmediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while He Himself was sending the crowd away.

Enseguida hizo que sus discípulos subieran a la barca y fueran delante de El al otro lado, a Betsaida, mientras El despedía a la multitud.

46 A fter bidding them farewell, He left for the mountain to pray.

Y después de despedirse de ellos, se fue al monte a orar.

47 W hen it was evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land.

Al anochecer, la barca estaba en medio del mar, y El estaba solo en tierra.

48 S eeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended to pass by them.

Y al verlos remar fatigados, porque el viento les era contrario, como a la cuarta vigilia de la noche, fue hacia ellos andando sobre el mar, y quería pasarles de largo.

49 B ut when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;

Pero cuando ellos le vieron andando sobre el mar, pensaron que era un fantasma y se pusieron a gritar;

50 f or they all saw Him and were terrified. But immediately He spoke with them and said to them, “ Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid.”

porque todos le vieron y se turbaron. Pero enseguida El habló con ellos y les dijo: ¡Tened ánimo; soy yo, no temáis!

51 T hen He got into the boat with them, and the wind stopped; and they were utterly astonished,

Y subió con ellos a la barca, y el viento se calmó; y ellos estaban asombrados en gran manera,

52 f or they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their heart was hardened. Healing at Gennesaret

porque no habían entendido lo de los panes, sino que su mente estaba embotada. Jesús en Genesaret

53 W hen they had crossed over they came to land at Gennesaret, and moored to the shore.

Terminada la travesía, llegaron a tierra en Genesaret, y atracaron.

54 W hen they got out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,

Cuando salieron de la barca, enseguida la gente reconoció a Jesús,

55 a nd ran about that whole country and began to carry here and there on their pallets those who were sick, to the place they heard He was.

y recorrieron apresuradamente toda aquella comarca, y comenzaron a traer a los enfermos en sus camillas adonde oían decir que El estaba.

56 W herever He entered villages, or cities, or countryside, they were laying the sick in the market places, and imploring Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and as many as touched it were being cured.

Y dondequiera que El entraba en aldeas, ciudades o campos, ponían a los enfermos en las plazas, y le rogaban que les permitiera tocar siquiera el borde de su manto; y todos los que lo tocaban quedaban curados.
