1 A fter these things Jesus was walking in Galilee, for He was unwilling to walk in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.

Después de esto, Jesús andaba por Galilea, pues no quería andar por Judea porque los judíos procuraban matarle.

2 N ow the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near.

Y la fiesta de los judíos, la de los Tabernáculos, estaba cerca.

3 T herefore His brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing.

Por eso sus hermanos le dijeron: Sal de aquí, y vete a Judea para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que tú haces.

4 F or no one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”

Porque nadie hace nada en secreto cuando procura ser conocido en público. Si haces estas cosas, muéstrate al mundo.

5 F or not even His brothers were believing in Him.

Porque ni aun sus hermanos creían en El.

6 S o Jesus said to them, “ My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune.

Entonces Jesús les dijo: Mi tiempo aún no ha llegado, pero vuestro tiempo es siempre oportuno.

7 T he world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil.

El mundo no puede odiaros a vosotros, pero a mí me odia, porque yo doy testimonio de él, que sus acciones son malas.

8 G o up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come.”

Subid vosotros a la fiesta; yo no subo a esta fiesta porque aún mi tiempo no se ha cumplido.

9 H aving said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee.

Y habiéndoles dicho esto, se quedó en Galilea. Jesús sube a la fiesta en secreto

10 B ut when His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as if, in secret.

Pero cuando sus hermanos subieron a la fiesta, entonces El también subió; no abiertamente, sino en secreto.

11 S o the Jews were seeking Him at the feast and were saying, “Where is He?”

Por eso los judíos le buscaban en la fiesta y decían: ¿Dónde está ése?

12 T here was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him; some were saying, “He is a good man”; others were saying, “No, on the contrary, He leads the people astray.”

Y había mucha murmuración entre la gente acerca de El. Unos decían: El es bueno. Otros decían: No, al contrario, extravía a la gente.

13 Y et no one was speaking openly of Him for fear of the Jews.

Sin embargo, nadie hablaba abiertamente de El por miedo a los judíos. Jesús enseña durante la fiesta

14 B ut when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and began to teach.

Pero ya a mitad de la fiesta, Jesús subió al templo y se puso a enseñar.

15 T he Jews then were astonished, saying, “How has this man become learned, having never been educated?”

Entonces los judíos se maravillaban, diciendo: ¿Cómo puede éste saber de letras sin haber estudiado?

16 S o Jesus answered them and said, “ My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.

Jesús entonces les respondió y dijo: Mi enseñanza no es mía, sino del que me envió.

17 I f anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.

Si alguien quiere hacer su voluntad, sabrá si mi enseñanza es de Dios o si hablo de mí mismo.

18 H e who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

El que habla de sí mismo busca su propia gloria; pero el que busca la gloria del que le envió, éste es verdadero y no hay injusticia en El.

19 “ Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?”

¿No os dio Moisés la ley, y sin embargo ninguno de vosotros la cumple ? ¿Por qué procuráis matarme ?

20 T he crowd answered, “ You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?”

La multitud contestó: ¡Tienes un demonio! ¿Quién procura matarte?

21 J esus answered them, “I did one deed, and you all marvel.

Respondió Jesús y les dijo: Una sola obra hice y todos os admiráis.

22 F or this reason Moses has given you circumcision (not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.

Por eso Moisés os ha dado la circuncisión (no porque sea de Moisés, sino de los padres ), y en el día de reposo circuncidáis al hombre.

23 I f a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath?

Y si para no violar la ley de Moisés un hombre recibe la circuncisión en el día de reposo, ¿ por qué estáis enojados conmigo porque sané por completo a un hombre en el día de reposo?

24 D o not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

No juzguéis por la apariencia, sino juzgad con juicio justo.

25 S o some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this not the man whom they are seeking to kill?

Entonces algunos de Jerusalén decían: ¿No es éste al que procuran matar?

26 L ook, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. The rulers do not really know that this is the Christ, do they?

Y ved, habla en público y no le dicen nada. ¿No será que en verdad los gobernantes reconocen que este es el Cristo ?

27 H owever, we know where this man is from; but whenever the Christ may come, no one knows where He is from.”

Sin embargo, nosotros sabemos de dónde es éste; pero cuando venga el Cristo, nadie sabrá de dónde es.

28 T hen Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “ You both know Me and know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know.

Jesús entonces, mientras enseñaba en el templo, exclamó en alta voz, diciendo: Vosotros me conocéis y sabéis de dónde soy. Yo no he venido por mi propia cuenta, pero el que me envió es verdadero, a quien vosotros no conocéis.

29 I know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”

Yo le conozco, porque procedo de El, y El me envió.

30 S o they were seeking to seize Him; and no man laid his hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.

Procuraban, pues, prenderle; pero nadie le echó mano porque todavía no había llegado su hora.

31 B ut many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, “ When the Christ comes, He will not perform more signs than those which this man has, will He?”

Pero muchos de la multitud creyeron en El, y decían: Cuando el Cristo venga, ¿acaso hará más señales que las que éste ha hecho?

32 T he Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to seize Him.

Los fariseos oyeron a la multitud murmurando estas cosas acerca de El, y los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos enviaron alguaciles para que le prendieran.

33 T herefore Jesus said, “ For a little while longer I am with you, then I go to Him who sent Me.

Entonces Jesús dijo: Por un poco más de tiempo estoy con vosotros; después voy al que me envió.

34 Y ou will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

Me buscaréis y no me hallaréis; y donde yo esté, vosotros no podéis ir.

35 T he Jews then said to one another, “ Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He is not intending to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, is He?

Decían entonces los judíos entre sí: ¿Adónde piensa irse éste que no le hallemos? ¿Será acaso que quiere irse a la dispersión entre los griegos y enseñar a los griegos?

36 W hat is this statement that He said, ‘ You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’ ?”

¿Qué quiere decir esto que ha dicho: “Me buscaréis y no me hallaréis; y donde yo esté, vosotros no podéis ir ”? La gran invitación

37 N ow on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “ If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.

Y en el último día, el gran día de la fiesta, Jesús puesto en pie, exclamó en alta voz, diciendo: Si alguno tiene sed, que venga a mí y beba.

38 H e who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”

El que cree en mí, como ha dicho la Escritura: “De lo más profundo de su ser brotarán ríos de agua viva.”

39 B ut this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Division of People over Jesus

Pero El decía esto del Espíritu, que los que habían creído en El habían de recibir; porque el Espíritu no había sido dado todavía, pues Jesús aún no había sido glorificado.

40 S ome of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is the Prophet.”

Entonces algunos de la multitud, cuando oyeron estas palabras, decían: Verdaderamente este es el Profeta.

41 O thers were saying, “This is the Christ.” Still others were saying, “ Surely the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He?

Otros decían: Este es el Cristo. Pero otros decían: ¿Acaso el Cristo ha de venir de Galilea ?

42 H as not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

¿No ha dicho la Escritura que el Cristo viene de la descendencia de David, y de Belén, la aldea de donde era David?

43 S o a division occurred in the crowd because of Him.

Así que se suscitó una división entre la multitud por causa de El.

44 S ome of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

Y algunos de ellos querían prenderle, pero nadie le echó mano. Los alguaciles confundidos

45 T he officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”

Entonces los alguaciles vinieron a los principales sacerdotes y fariseos, y éstos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no le trajisteis?

46 T he officers answered, “ Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks.”

Los alguaciles respondieron: ¡Jamás hombre alguno ha hablado como este hombre habla!

47 T he Pharisees then answered them, “ You have not also been led astray, have you?

Entonces los fariseos les contestaron: ¿Es que también vosotros os habéis dejado engañar ?

48 N o one of the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he?

¿Acaso ha creído en El alguno de los gobernantes, o de los fariseos?

49 B ut this crowd which does not know the Law is accursed.”

Pero esta multitud que no conoce de la ley, maldita es.

50 N icodemus (he who came to Him before, being one of them) said to them,

Nicodemo, el que había venido a Jesús antes, y que era uno de ellos, les dijo:

51 “ Our Law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?”

¿Acaso juzga nuestra ley a un hombre a menos que le oiga primero y sepa lo que hace?

52 T hey answered him, “ You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.”

Respondieron y le dijeron: ¿Es que tú también eres de Galilea ? Investiga, y verás que ningún profeta surge de Galilea.

53 ' > Everyone went to his home.

Y cada uno se fue a su casa.
