1 N ow Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took action,

Y se rebeló Coré, hijo de Izhar, hijo de Coat, hijo de Leví, con Datán y Abiram, hijos de Eliab, y On, hijo de Pelet, hijos de Rubén,

2 a nd they rose up before Moses, together with some of the sons of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the congregation, chosen in the assembly, men of renown.

y se alzaron contra Moisés, junto con algunos de los hijos de Israel, doscientos cincuenta jefes de la congregación, escogidos en la asamblea, hombres de renombre.

3 T hey assembled together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “ You have gone far enough, for all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is in their midst; so why do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord ?”

Y se juntaron contra Moisés y Aarón, y les dijeron: ¡Basta ya de vosotros! Porque toda la congregación, todos ellos son santos, y el Señor está en medio de ellos. ¿Por qué, entonces, os levantáis por encima de la asamblea del Señor ?

4 W hen Moses heard this, he fell on his face;

Cuando Moisés escuchó esto, cayó sobre su rostro;

5 a nd he spoke to Korah and all his company, saying, “Tomorrow morning the Lord will show who is His, and who is holy, and will bring him near to Himself; even the one whom He will choose, He will bring near to Himself.

y habló a Coré y a todo su grupo, diciendo: Mañana temprano el Señor mostrará quién es de El, y quién es santo, y lo acercará a sí; aquel a quien El escoja, lo acercará a sí.

6 D o this: take censers for yourselves, Korah and all your company,

Haced esto, Coré y todo vuestro grupo: tomad incensarios para vosotros,

7 a nd put fire in them, and lay incense upon them in the presence of the Lord tomorrow; and the man whom the Lord chooses shall be the one who is holy. You have gone far enough, you sons of Levi!”

y poned fuego en ellos, y echad incienso sobre ellos mañana en la presencia del Señor; y el hombre a quien el Señor escoja será el que es santo. ¡Basta ya de vosotros, hijos de Leví!

8 T hen Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, you sons of Levi,

Entonces Moisés dijo a Coré: Oíd ahora, hijos de Leví.

9 i s it not enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them;

¿No os es suficiente que el Dios de Israel os haya separado del resto de la congregación de Israel, para acercaros a sí, a fin de cumplir el ministerio del tabernáculo del Señor, y para estar ante la congregación para ministrarles,

10 a nd that He has brought you near, Korah, and all your brothers, sons of Levi, with you? And are you seeking for the priesthood also?

y que se te ha acercado a ti, Coré, y a todos tus hermanos, hijos de Leví, contigo? ¿Y pretendéis también el sacerdocio ?

11 T herefore you and all your company are gathered together against the Lord; but as for Aaron, who is he that you grumble against him?”

Por tanto, tú y toda tu compañía os habéis juntado contra el Señor; pues en cuanto a Aarón, ¿quién es él para que murmuréis contra él ?

12 T hen Moses sent a summons to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; but they said, “We will not come up.

Entonces Moisés mandó llamar a Datán y a Abiram, hijos de Eliab, pero ellos dijeron: No iremos.

13 I s it not enough that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to have us die in the wilderness, but you would also lord it over us?

¿No es suficiente que nos hayas sacado de una tierra que mana leche y miel para que muramos en el desierto, sino que también quieras enseñorearte sobre nosotros?

14 I ndeed, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor have you given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Would you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up!”

En verdad, tú no nos has traído a una tierra que mana leche y miel, ni nos has dado herencia de campos y viñas. ¿Les sacarías los ojos a estos hombres ? ¡No iremos!

15 T hen Moses became very angry and said to the Lord, “ Do not regard their offering! I have not taken a single donkey from them, nor have I done harm to any of them.”

Moisés se enojó mucho y dijo al Señor: ¡No aceptes su ofrenda! No he tomado de ellos ni un solo asno, ni le he hecho daño a ninguno de ellos.

16 M oses said to Korah, “You and all your company be present before the Lord tomorrow, both you and they along with Aaron.

Y dijo Moisés a Coré: Tú y toda tu compañía presentaos mañana delante del Señor; tú, ellos y Aarón.

17 E ach of you take his firepan and put incense on it, and each of you bring his censer before the Lord, two hundred and fifty firepans; also you and Aaron shall each bring his firepan.”

Cada uno de vosotros tome su incensario y ponga incienso en él, y cada uno de vosotros traiga su incensario delante del Señor, doscientos cincuenta incensarios; tú también, y Aarón, cada uno traiga su incensario.

18 S o they each took his own censer and put fire on it, and laid incense on it; and they stood at the doorway of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron.

Y cada uno tomó su incensario y puso fuego en él, y echó incienso en él; y se pusieron a la puerta de la tienda de reunión con Moisés y Aarón.

19 T hus Korah assembled all the congregation against them at the doorway of the tent of meeting. And the glory of the Lord appeared to all the congregation.

Así reunió Coré a toda la congregación en contra de ellos a la puerta de la tienda de reunión, y la gloria del Señor apareció a toda la congregación. Castigo de Coré, sus compañeros y sus familias

20 T hen the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

Entonces el Señor habló a Moisés y a Aarón, diciendo:

21 “ Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them instantly.”

Apartaos de entre esta congregación, para que yo la destruya en un instante.

22 B ut they fell on their faces and said, “O God, God of the spirits of all flesh, when one man sins, will You be angry with the entire congregation?”

Pero ellos cayeron sobre sus rostros, y dijeron: Oh Dios, Dios de los espíritus de toda carne, cuando un hombre peque, ¿te enojarás con toda la congregación ?

23 T hen the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

Entonces respondió el Señor a Moisés, diciendo:

24 “ Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘ Get back from around the dwellings of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’”

Habla a la congregación, y diles: “Alejaos de los alrededores de las tiendas de Coré, Datán y Abiram.”

25 T hen Moses arose and went to Dathan and Abiram, with the elders of Israel following him,

Entonces se levantó Moisés y fue a Datán y a Abiram, y le seguían los ancianos de Israel,

26 a nd he spoke to the congregation, saying, “ Depart now from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing that belongs to them, or you will be swept away in all their sin.”

y habló a la congregación, diciendo: Apartaos ahora de las tiendas de estos malvados, y no toquéis nada que les pertenezca, no sea que perezcáis con todo su pecado.

27 S o they got back from around the dwellings of Korah, Dathan and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the doorway of their tents, along with their wives and their sons and their little ones.

Se retiraron, pues, de los alrededores de las tiendas de Coré, Datán y Abiram; y Datán y Abiram salieron y se pusieron a la puerta de sus tiendas, junto con sus mujeres, sus hijos y sus pequeños.

28 M oses said, “By this you shall know that the Lord has sent me to do all these deeds; for this is not my doing.

Y Moisés dijo: En esto conoceréis que el Señor me ha enviado para hacer todas estas obras, y que no es iniciativa mía:

29 I f these men die the death of all men or if they suffer the fate of all men, then the Lord has not sent me.

si éstos mueren como mueren todos los hombres o si sufren la suerte de todos los hombres, entonces el Señor no me envió.

30 B ut if the Lord brings about an entirely new thing and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that is theirs, and they descend alive into Sheol, then you will understand that these men have spurned the Lord.”

Pero si el Señor hace algo enteramente nuevo y la tierra abre su boca y los traga con todo lo que les pertenece, y descienden vivos al Seol, entonces sabréis que estos hombres han menospreciado al Señor.

31 A s he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open;

Y aconteció que cuando terminó de hablar todas estas palabras, la tierra debajo de ellos se partió,

32 a nd the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men who belonged to Korah with their possessions.

y la tierra abrió su boca y se los tragó, a ellos y a sus casas y a todos los hombres de Coré con todos sus bienes.

33 S o they and all that belonged to them went down alive to Sheol; and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly.

Ellos y todo lo que les pertenecía descendieron vivos al Seol; y la tierra los cubrió y perecieron de en medio de la asamblea.

34 A ll Israel who were around them fled at their outcry, for they said, “The earth may swallow us up!”

Y todos los israelitas que estaban alrededor de ellos huyeron a sus gritos, pues decían: ¡No sea que la tierra nos trague!

35 F ire also came forth from the Lord and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering the incense.

Salió también fuego del Señor y consumió a los doscientos cincuenta hombres que ofrecían el incienso.

36 T hen the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

Entonces habló el Señor a Moisés, diciendo:

37 “ Say to Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, that he shall take up the censers out of the midst of the blaze, for they are holy; and you scatter the burning coals abroad.

Di a Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, que levante los incensarios de en medio de la hoguera, pues son santos; y esparce allí las brasas.

38 A s for the censers of these men who have sinned at the cost of their lives, let them be made into hammered sheets for a plating of the altar, since they did present them before the Lord and they are holy; and they shall be for a sign to the sons of Israel.”

En cuanto a los incensarios de estos que han pecado a costa de sus vidas, que se hagan de ellos láminas batidas para cubrir el altar, puesto que los presentaron ante el Señor y son santos; y serán por señal a los hijos de Israel.

39 S o Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers which the men who were burned had offered, and they hammered them out as a plating for the altar,

El sacerdote Eleazar tomó los incensarios de bronce que habían presentado los que fueron quemados, y a martillo los hicieron una cubierta para el altar,

40 a s a reminder to the sons of Israel that no layman who is not of the descendants of Aaron should come near to burn incense before the Lord; so that he will not become like Korah and his company—just as the Lord had spoken to him through Moses. Murmuring and Plague

como recordatorio para los hijos de Israel de que ningún laico, que no fuera descendiente de Aarón, debería acercarse a quemar incienso delante del Señor, para que no le sucediera como a Coré y a su grupo, tal como el Señor se lo había dicho por medio de Moisés. Plaga mortal por causa de las quejas del pueblo

41 B ut on the next day all the congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, “You are the ones who have caused the death of the Lord’s people.”

Pero al día siguiente, toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel murmuró contra Moisés y Aarón, diciendo: Vosotros sois los que habéis sido la causa de la muerte del pueblo del Señor.

42 I t came about, however, when the congregation had assembled against Moses and Aaron, that they turned toward the tent of meeting, and behold, the cloud covered it and the glory of the Lord appeared.

Sucedió, sin embargo, que cuando la congregación se había juntado contra Moisés y Aarón, se volvieron hacia la tienda de reunión, y he aquí, la nube la cubría y la gloria del Señor apareció.

43 T hen Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting,

Y Moisés y Aarón fueron al frente de la tienda de reunión,

44 a nd the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

y el Señor habló a Moisés, diciendo:

45 “ Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them instantly.” Then they fell on their faces.

Apartaos de en medio de esta congregación, para que yo la destruya en un instante. Entonces ellos cayeron sobre sus rostros.

46 M oses said to Aaron, “Take your censer and put in it fire from the altar, and lay incense on it; then bring it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone forth from the Lord, the plague has begun!”

Y Moisés le dijo a Aarón: Toma tu incensario y pon en él fuego del altar, y echa incienso en él; tráelo entonces pronto a la congregación y haz expiación por ellos, porque la ira ha salido de parte del Señor. ¡La plaga ha comenzado!

47 T hen Aaron took it as Moses had spoken, and ran into the midst of the assembly, for behold, the plague had begun among the people. So he put on the incense and made atonement for the people.

Aarón lo tomó como Moisés le había dicho, y corrió hacia el medio de la asamblea, pues he aquí que la plaga ya había comenzado entre el pueblo. Y echó el incienso e hizo expiación por el pueblo.

48 H e took his stand between the dead and the living, so that the plague was checked.

Y se colocó entre los muertos y los vivos, y la plaga se detuvo.

49 B ut those who died by the plague were 14, 700, besides those who died on account of Korah.

Y los que murieron a causa de la plaga fueron catorce mil setecientos, sin contar los que murieron por causa de Coré.

50 T hen Aaron returned to Moses at the doorway of the tent of meeting, for the plague had been checked.

Después Aarón regresó a Moisés a la puerta de la tienda de reunión, pues la plaga había sido detenida.
