1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Limba înţelepţilor dă ştiinţă plăcută, dar gura nesocotiţilor împroaşcă nebunie. -

3 Y ahweh’s eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

Ochii Domnului sînt în orice loc, ei văd pe cei răi şi pe cei buni. -

4 A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but deceit in it crushes the spirit.

Limba dulce este un pom de viaţă, dar limba stricată zdrobeşte sufletul. -

5 A fool despises his father’s correction, but he who heeds reproof shows prudence.

Nesocotitul dispreţuieşte învăţătura tatălui său, dar cine ia seama la mustrare ajunge înţelept. -

6 I n the house of the righteous is much treasure, but the income of the wicked brings trouble.

În casa celui neprihănit este mare belşug, dar în cîştigurile celui rău este turburare. -

7 T he lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so with the heart of fools.

Buzele înţelepţilor samănă ştiinţa, dar inima celor nesocotiţi este stricată. -

8 T he sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

Jertfa celor răi este o scîrbă înaintea Domnului, dar rugăciunea celor fără prihană Îi este plăcută. -

9 T he way of the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh, but he loves him who follows after righteousness.

Calea celui rău este urîtă Domnului, dar El iubeşte pe cel ce umblă după neprihănire. -

10 T here is stern discipline for one who forsakes the way: whoever hates reproof shall die.

Cine părăseşte cărarea este aspru pedepsit, şi cine urăşte mustrarea va muri. -

11 S heol and Abaddon are before Yahweh— how much more then the hearts of the children of men!

Locuinţa morţilor şi Adîncul sînt cunoscute Domnului, cu cît mai mult inimile oamenilor! -

12 A scoffer doesn’t love to be reproved; he will not go to the wise.

Batjocoritorului nu -i place să fie mustrat, de aceea nu se duce la cei înţelepţi. -

13 A glad heart makes a cheerful face; but an aching heart breaks the spirit.

O inimă veselă înseninează faţa; dar cînd inima este tristă, duhul este mîhnit. -

14 T he heart of one who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.

Inima celor pricepuţi caută ştiinţa, dar gura nesocotiţilor găseşte plăcere în nebunie. -

15 A ll the days of the afflicted are wretched, but one who has a cheerful heart enjoys a continual feast.

Toate zilele celui nenorocit sînt rele, dar cel cu inima mulţămită are un ospăţ necurmat. -

16 B etter is little, with the fear of Yahweh, than great treasure with trouble.

Mai bine puţin, cu frică de Domnul, de cît o mare bogăţie, cu turburare! -

17 B etter is a dinner of herbs, where love is, than a fattened calf with hatred.

Mai bine un prînz de verdeţuri, şi dragoste, de cît un bou îngrăşat, şi ură. -

18 A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.

Un om iute la mînie stîrneşte certuri, dar cine este încet la mînie potoleşte neînţelegerile. -

19 T he way of the sluggard is like a thorn patch, but the path of the upright is a highway.

Drumul leneşului este ca un hăţiş de spini, dar cărarea celor fără prihană este netezită. -

20 A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother.

Un fiu înţelept este bucuria tatălui său, dar un om nesocotit dispreţuieşte pe mamă-sa. -

21 F olly is joy to one who is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding keeps his way straight.

Nebunia este o bucurie pentru cel fără minte, dar un om priceput merge pe drumul cel drept. -

22 W here there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established.

Planurile nu izbutesc, cînd lipseşte o adunare care să chibzuiască, dar izbutesc cînd sînt mulţi sfetnici. -

23 J oy comes to a man with the reply of his mouth. How good is a word at the right time!

Omul are bucurie să dea un răspuns cu gura lui, şi ce bună este o vorbă spusă la vreme potrivită! -

24 T he path of life leads upward for the wise, to keep him from going downward to Sheol.

Pentru cel înţelept cărarea vieţii duce în sus, ca să -l abată de la locuinţa morţilor, care este jos. -

25 Y ahweh will uproot the house of the proud, but he will keep the widow’s borders intact.

Domnul surpă casa celor mîndri, dar întăreşte hotarele văduvei. -

26 Y ahweh detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the thoughts of the pure are pleasing.

Gîndurile rele sînt urîte Domnului, dar cuvintele prietenoase sînt curate înaintea Lui. -

27 H e who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.

Cel lacom de cîştig îşi turbură casa, dar cel ce urăşte mita va trăi. -

28 T he heart of the righteous weighs answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes out evil.

Inima celui neprihănit se gîndeşte ce să răspundă, dar gura celor răi împroaşcă răutăţi. -

29 Y ahweh is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

Domnul Se depărtează de cei răi, dar ascultă rugăciunea celor neprihăniţi. -

30 T he light of the eyes rejoices the heart. Good news gives health to the bones.

O privire prietenoasă înveseleşte inima, o veste bună întăreşte oasele. -

31 T he ear that listens to reproof lives, and will be at home among the wise.

Urechea care ia aminte la învăţăturile cari duc la viaţă, locuieşte în mijlocul înţelepţilor. -

32 H e who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who listens to reproof gets understanding.

Cel ce leapădă certarea îşi dispreţuieşte sufletul, dar cel ce ascultă mustrarea capătă pricepere. -

33 T he fear of Yahweh teaches wisdom. Before honor is humility.

Frica de Domnul este şcoala înţelepciunii, şi smerenia merge înaintea slavei. -
