1 N ow in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the month, when the king’s commandment and his decree came near to be put in execution, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to conquer them, (but it was turned out the opposite happened, that the Jews conquered those who hated them),

În luna a douăsprezecea, adică luna Adar, în a treisprezecea zi a lunii, ziua în care avea să se aducă la îndeplinire porunca şi hotărîrea împăratului, şi cînd vrăjmaşii Iudeilor nădăjduiseră să stăpînească peste ei, s'a întîmplat tocmai dimpotrivă, că Iudeii au stăpînit asupra vrăjmaşilor lor.

2 t he Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus, to lay hands on those who wanted to harm them. No one could withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen on all the people.

Iudeii s'au strîns în cetăţile lor, în toate ţinuturile împăratului Ahaşveroş, ca să pună mîna pe ceice căutau să -i peardă. Nimeni n'a putut să le stea împotrivă, căci frica de ei apucase pe toate popoarele!

3 A ll the princes of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and those who did the king’s business helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen on them.

Şi toţi mai marii ţinuturilor, căpeteniile oştirii, dregătorii, slujbaşii împăratului, au sprijinit pe Iudei, din pricina fricei pe care le -o însufla Mardoheu.

4 F or Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces; for the man Mordecai grew greater and greater.

Căci Mardoheu era puternic în casa împăratului, şi faima lui se răspîndea în toate ţinuturile, pentrucă ajungea din ce în ce mai puternic.

5 T he Jews struck all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they wanted to those who hated them.

Iudeii au ucis cu lovituri de sabie pe toţi vrăjmaşii lor, i-au omorît şi i-au prăpădit. Au făcut ce au vrut cu vrăjmaşii lor.

6 I n the citadel of Susa, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.

În capitala Susa, Iudeii au ucis şi au prăpădit cinci sute de oameni,

7 T hey killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,

şi au junghiat pe Parşandata, Dalfon, Aspata,

8 P oratha, Adalia, Aridatha,

Porata, Adalia, Aridata,

9 P armashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha,

Parmaşta, Arizai, Aridai, şi Vaiezata,

10 t he ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jew’s enemy, but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

cei zece fii ai lui Haman, fiul lui Hamedata, vrăjmaşul Iudeilor. Dar n'au pus mîna pe averile lor.

11 O n that day, the number of those who were slain in the citadel of Susa was brought before the king.

În ziua aceea, numărul celor ce fuseseră ucişi în capitala Susa a ajuns la cunoştinţa împăratului.

12 T he king said to Esther the queen, “The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in the citadel of Susa, including the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces! Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your further request? It shall be done.”

Şi împăratul a zis împărătesei Estera:,, Iudeii au ucis şi au prăpădit în capitala Susa cinci sute de oameni şi pe cei zece fii ai lui Haman. Ce vor fi făcut în celelalte ţinuturi ale împăratului?... Care-ţi este cererea? Ea îţi va fi împlinită. Ce mai doreşti? Vei căpăta.``

13 T hen Esther said, “If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according to today’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.”

Estera a răspuns:,, Dacă împăratul găseşte cu cale, să fie îngăduit Iudeilor cari sînt la Susa să facă şi mîne după porunca de azi, şi să spînzure pe lemn pe cei zece fii ai lui Haman.``

14 T he king commanded this to be done. A decree was given out in Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

Şi împăratul a poruncit să se facă aşa. Porunca a fost adusă la cunoştinţa poporului din Susa. Au spînzurat pe cei zece fii ai lui Haman.

15 T he Jews who were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and killed three hundred men in Shushan; but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

Iudeii cari se aflau în Susa s'au strîns din nou în a patrusprezecea zi a lunii Adar, şi au ucis în Susa trei sute de oameni. Dar n'au pus mîna pe averile lor.

16 T he other Jews who were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, defended their lives, had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them; but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

Ceilalţi Iudei din celelalte ţinuturi ale împăratului s'au strîns şi şi-au apărat viaţa. Au căpătat astfel odihnă, scăpînd de vrăjmaşii lor, şi au ucis şaptezeci şi cinci de mii din cei ce le erau vrăjmaşi. Dar n'au pus mîna pe averile lor.

17 T his was done on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of that month they rested and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

Aceste lucruri s'au întîmplat în a treisprezecea zi a lunii Adar. În ziua a patrusprezecea, Iudeii s'au odihnit, şi au făcut din ea o zi de ospăţ şi de bucurie.

18 B ut the Jews who were in Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth and on the fourteenth days of the month; and on the fifteenth day of that month, they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

Cei ce se aflau la Susa, s'au strîns în ziua a treisprezecea şi a patrusprezecea, dar în ziua a cincisprezecea s'au odihnit, şi au făcut din ea o zi de ospăţ şi de bucurie.

19 T herefore the Jews of the villages, who live in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, a good day, and a day of sending presents of food to one another.

De aceea Iudeii dela ţară, cari locuiesc în cetăţi fără ziduri, au făcut din ziua a patrusprezecea a lunii Adar o zi de bucurie, de ospăţ şi de sărbătoare, în care îşi trimet daruri unii altora.

20 M ordecai wrote these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both near and far,

Mardoheu a scris aceste lucruri, şi a trimes scrisori tuturor Iudeilor din toate ţinuturile împăratului Ahaşveroş, de aproape şi din depărtare.

21 t o enjoin them that they should keep the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month Adar yearly,

Le poruncea să prăznuiască în fiecare an ziua a patrusprezecea şi a cincisprezecea a lunii Adar,

22 a s the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending presents of food to one another, and gifts to the needy.

ca zile în cari căpătaseră odihnă, scăpînd de vrajmaşii lor. Le -a poruncit să prăznuiască luna în care întristarea lor se prefăcuse în bucurie şi jalea lor în zi de sărbătoare, şi să facă din aceste zile nişte zile de ospăţ şi de bucurie, cînd să-şi trimeată daruri de mîncare unii altora şi să împartă daruri celor lipsiţi.

23 T he Jews accepted the custom that they had begun, as Mordecai had written to them;

Iudeii s'au îndatorat să facă ceeace şi începuseră să facă şi ce le scrisese Mardoheu.

24 b ecause Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast “Pur”, that is the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;

Căci Haman, fiul lui Hamedata, Agaghitul, vrăjmaşul tuturor Iudeilor, făcuse planul să -i peardă, şi aruncase Pur, adică sorţul, ca să -i omoare şi să -i nimicească.

25 b ut when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

Dar Estera, venind înaintea împăratului, împăratul a poruncit în scris să întoarcă asupra capului lui Haman planul cel rău pe care -l făcuse împotriva Iudeilor, şi să -l spînzure pe lemn, pe el şi pe fiii lui.

26 T herefore they called these days “Purim”, from the word “Pur.” Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come to them,

De aceea zilele acestea s'au numit Purim, dela numirea Pur. Potrivit cu tot cuprinsul acestei scrisori, potrivit cu cele ce văzuseră ei înşişi şi potrivit cu cele ce li se întîmplaseră,

27 t he Jews established, and imposed on themselves, and on their descendants, and on all those who joined themselves to them, so that it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to what was written, and according to its appointed time, every year;

Iudeii au luat pentru ei, pentru sămînţa lor, şi pentru toţi ceice se vor lipi de ei, hotărîrea şi îndatorirea neschimbăcioasă ca să prăznuiască în fiecare an aceste două zile, în felul rînduit, şi la vremea hotărîtă.

28 a nd that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor their memory perish from their offspring,

Zilele acestea trebuiau să fie pomenite şi prăznuite din neam în neam, în fiecare familie, în fiecare ţinut şi în fiecare cetate. Şi zilele acestea Purim nu trebuiau desfiinţate niciodată din mijlocul Iudeilor, nici să se şteargă aducerea aminte de ele printre urmaşii lor.

29 T hen Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority to confirm this second letter of Purim.

Împărăteasa Estera, fata lui Abihail, şi Iudeul Mardoheu au scris stăruitor a doua oară pentruca să întărească scrisoarea privitoare la Purim.

30 H e sent letters to all the Jews, to the hundred twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,

Au trimes scrisori tuturor Iudeilor, în cele o sută douăzeci şi şapte de ţinuturi ale împăratului Ahaşveroş. Ele cuprindeau cuvinte de pace şi de credincioşie,

31 t o confirm these days of Purim in their appointed times, as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had decreed, and as they had imposed upon themselves and their descendants, in the matter of the fastings and their cry.

întărind ţinerea acestor zile Purim, la vremea hotărîtă, cum le rînduiseră Iudeul Mardoheu şi împărăteasa Estera pentru ei, şi cum şi le rînduiseră şi pentru ei înşişi şi pentru sămînţa lor, cu prilejul postului lor şi ţipetelor lor.

32 T he commandment of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.

Porunca Esterei a întărit aşezarea acestei sărbători Purim, şi lucrul acesta a fost scris în carte.
