1 T hen Eliphaz the Temanite answered,

Elifaz din Teman a luat cuvîntul şi a zis:

2 “ Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.

Poate un om să aducă vreun folos lui Dumnezeu? Nu; ci înţeleptul nu-şi foloseşte de cît lui.

3 I s it any pleasure to the Almighty, that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him, that you make your ways perfect?

Dacă eşti fără prihană, are Cel Atotputernic vre un folos? Şi dacă trăieşti fără vină, ce va cîştiga El?

4 I s it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?

Pentru evlavia ta te pedepseşte El oare, şi intră la judecată cu tine?

5 I sn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.

Nu -i mare răutatea ta? Şi fărădelegile tale fără număr?

6 F or you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

Luai fără pricină zăloage dela fraţii tăi, lăsai fără haine pe cei goi.

7 Y ou haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.

Nu dădeai apă omului însetat, nu voiai să dai pîne omului flămînd.

8 B ut as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it.

Ţara era a ta, fiindcă erai mai tare, te aşezai în ea, fiindcă erai cu vază.

9 Y ou have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

Dădeai afară pe văduve cu mînile goale, şi braţele orfanilor le frîngeai.

10 T herefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you,

Pentru aceea eşti înconjurat de curse, şi te -a apucat groaza dintr'o dată.

11 o r darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.

Nu vezi dar acest întunerec, aceste ape multe cari te năpădesc?

12 “ Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are!

Nu este Dumnezeu sus în ceruri? Priveşte vîrful stelelor, ce înalt este!

13 Y ou say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?

Şi tu zici:, Ce ştie Dumnezeu? Poate să judece El prin întunerecul de nori?

14 T hick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’

Îl înfăşoară norii, nu vede nimic, bolta cerească abea dacă o străbate!`

15 W ill you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden,

Ce! vrei s'apuci pe calea străveche, pe care au urmat -o cei nelegiuiţi,

16 w ho were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,

cari au fost luaţi înainte de vreme, şi au ţinut cît ţine un pîrîu care se scurge?

17 w ho said to God, ‘Depart from us;’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’

Ei ziceau lui Dumnezeu:, Pleacă dela noi! Ce ne poate face Cel Atot puternic?`

18 Y et he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

Şi totuş Dumnezeu le umpluse casele de bunătăţi. -Departe de mine sfatul celor răi! -

19 T he righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them,

Cei fără prihană vor fi martori ai căderii lor şi se vor bucura, cel nevinovat va rîde de ei

20 s aying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’

şi va zice:, Iată pe protivnicii noştri nimiciţi! Iată-le bogăţiile arse de foc!`

21 “ Acquaint yourself with him, now, and be at peace. Thereby good shall come to you.

Împrieteneşte-te dar cu Dumnezeu, şi vei avea pace; te vei bucura astfel iarăş de fericire.

22 P lease receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.

Primeşte învăţătură din gura Lui, şi pune-ţi la inimă cuvintele Lui.

23 I f you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.

Vei fi aşezat iarăş la locul tău, dacă te vei întoarce la Cel Atot puternic, dacă depărtezi fărădelegea din cortul tău.

24 L ay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.

Aruncă dar aurul în ţărînă, aruncă aurul din Ofir în prundul pîraielor!

25 T he Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you.

Şi atunci Cel Atot puternic va fi aurul tău, argintul tău, bogăţia ta.

26 F or then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face to God.

Atunci Cel Atot puternic va fi desfătarea ta, şi îţi vei ridica faţa spre Dumnezeu.

27 Y ou shall make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You shall pay your vows.

Îl vei ruga, şi te va asculta, şi îţi vei putea împlini juruinţele.

28 Y ou shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to you. Light shall shine on your ways.

Pe ce vei pune mîna îţi va izbuti, pe cărările tale va străluci lumina.

29 W hen they cast down, you shall say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.

Vină smerirea, tu te vei ruga pentru ridicarea ta: Dumnezeu ajută pe cel cu ochii plecaţi.

30 H e will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he shall be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”

El va izbăvi chiar şi pe cel vinovat, care îşi va datora scăparea curăţiei mînilor tale.``
