My son, keep my words; lay up within you my commandments and treasure them.

2 O bedeça aos meus mandamentos, e você terá vida; guarde os meus ensinos como a menina dos seus olhos.

Keep my commandments and live, and keep my law and teaching as the apple (the pupil) of your eye.

3 A marre-os aos dedos; escreva-os na tábua do seu coração.

Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 D iga à sabedoria: “Você é minha irmã”, e chame ao entendimento seu parente;

Say to skillful and godly Wisdom, You are my sister, and regard understanding or insight as your intimate friend—

5 e les o manterão afastado da mulher imoral, da mulher leviana com suas palavras sedutoras.

That they may keep you from the loose woman, from the adventuress who flatters with and makes smooth her words.

6 D a janela de minha casa olhei através da grade

For at the window of my house I looked out through my lattice.

7 e vi entre os inexperientes, no meio dos jovens, um rapaz sem juízo.

And among the simple (empty-headed and emptyhearted) ones, I perceived among the youths a young man void of good sense,

8 E le vinha pela rua, próximo à esquina de certa mulher, andando em direção à casa dela.

Sauntering through the street near the corner; and he went the way to her house

9 E ra crepúsculo, o entardecer do dia, chegavam as sombras da noite, crescia a escuridão.

In the twilight, in the evening; night black and dense was falling.

10 A mulher veio então ao seu encontro, vestida como prostituta, cheia de astúcia no coração.

And behold, there met him a woman, dressed as a harlot and sly and cunning of heart.

11 ( Ela é espalhafatosa e provocadora, seus pés nunca param em casa;

She is turbulent and willful; her feet stay not in her house;

12 u ma hora na rua, outra nas praças, em cada esquina fica à espreita.)

Now in the streets, now in the marketplaces, she sets her ambush at every corner.

13 E la agarrou o rapaz, beijou-o e lhe disse descaradamente:

So she caught him and kissed him and with impudent face she said to him,

14 “ Tenho em casa a carne dos sacrifícios de comunhão, que hoje fiz para cumprir os meus votos.

Sacrifices of peace offerings were due from me; this day I paid my vows.

15 P or isso saí para encontrá-lo; vim à sua procura e o encontrei!

So I came forth to meet you; diligently I sought your face, and I have found you.

16 E stendi sobre o meu leito cobertas de linho fino do Egito.

I have spread my couch with rugs and cushions of tapestry, with striped sheets of fine linen of Egypt.

17 P erfumei a minha cama com mirra, aloés e canela.

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 V enha, vamos embriagar-nos de carícias até o amanhecer; gozemos as delícias do amor!

Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; let us console and delight ourselves with love.

19 P ois o meu marido não está em casa; partiu para uma longa viagem.

For the man is not at home; he is gone on a long journey;

20 L evou uma bolsa cheia de prata e não voltará antes da lua cheia”.

He has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the day appointed.

21 C om a sedução das palavras o persuadiu, e o atraiu com o dulçor dos lábios.

With much justifying and enticing argument she persuades him, with the allurements of her lips she leads him and forces him along.

22 I mediatamente ele a seguiu como o boi levado ao matadouro, ou como o cervo que vai cair no laço

Suddenly he follows her reluctantly like an ox moving to the slaughter, like one in fetters going to the correction to a fool or like a dog enticed by food to the muzzle

23 a té que uma flecha lhe atravesse o fígado, ou como o pássaro que salta para dentro do alçapão, sem saber que isso lhe custará a vida.

Till a dart pierces and inflames his vitals; then like a bird fluttering straight into the net, not knowing that it will cost him his life.

24 E ntão, meu filho, ouça-me; dê atenção às minhas palavras.

Listen to me now therefore, O you sons, and be attentive to the words of my mouth.

25 N ão deixe que o seu coração se volte para os caminhos dela, nem se perca em tais veredas.

Let not your heart incline toward her ways, do not stray into her paths.

26 M uitas foram as suas vítimas; os que matou são uma grande multidão.

For she has cast down many wounded; indeed, all her slain are a mighty host.

27 A casa dela é um caminho que desce para a sepultura, para as moradas da morte.

Her house is the way to Sheol (Hades, the place of the dead), going down to the chambers of death.
