1 “ Mas agora, Jó, escute as minhas palavras; preste atenção a tudo o que vou dizer.

Be that as it may, Job, I beg of you to hear what I have to say and give heed to all my words.

2 E stou prestes a abrir a boca; minhas palavras estão na ponta da língua.

Behold, here I am with open mouth; here is my tongue talking.

3 M inhas palavras procedem de um coração íntegro; meus lábios falam com sinceridade o que eu sei.

My words shall express the uprightness of my heart, and my lips shall speak what they know with utter sincerity.

4 O Espírito de Deus me fez; o sopro do Todo-poderoso me dá vida.

the Spirit of God that made me, and the breath of the Almighty that gives me life.

5 R esponda-me, então, se puder; prepare-se para enfrentar-me.

Answer me now, if you can; set your words in order before me; take your stand.

6 S ou igual a você diante de Deus; eu também fui feito do barro.

Behold, I am toward God and before Him even as you are; I also am formed out of the clay.

7 P or isso não lhe devo inspirar temor, e a minha mão não há de ser pesada sobre você.

See my terror; I shall not make you afraid, neither shall my pressure be heavy upon you.

8 “ Mas você disse ao meu alcance; eu ouvi bem as palavras:

Surely you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of your words, saying,

9 ‘ Estou limpo e sem pecado; estou puro e sem culpa.

I am clean, without transgression; I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.

10 C ontudo, Deus procurou em mim motivos para inimizade; ele me considera seu inimigo.

But behold, God finds occasions against me and causes of alienation and indifference; He counts me as His enemy.

11 E le acorrenta os meus pés; vigia de perto todos os meus caminhos’.

He puts my feet in the stocks; He watches all my paths.

12 “ Mas eu lhe digo que você não está certo, porquanto Deus é maior do que o homem.

I reply to you, Behold, in this you are not just; God is superior to man.

13 P or que você se queixa a ele de que não responde às palavras dos homens?

Why do you contend against Him? For He does not give account of any of His actions.

14 P ois a verdade é que Deus fala, ora de um modo, ora de outro, mesmo que o homem não o perceba.

For God speaks not only once, but more than once, even though men do not regard it.

15 E m sonho ou em visão durante a noite, quando o sono profundo cai sobre os homens e eles dormem em suas camas,

in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men while slumbering upon the bed,

16 e le pode falar aos ouvidos deles e aterrorizá-los com advertências,

Then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction,

17 p ara previnir o homem das suas más ações e livrá-lo do orgulho,

That He may withdraw man from his purpose and cut off pride from him.

18 p ara preservar da cova a sua alma, e a sua vida da espada.

He holds him back from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

19 O u o homem pode ser castigado no leito de dor, com os seus ossos em constante agonia,

he is chastened with pain upon his bed and with continual strife in his bones or while all his bones are firmly set,

20 s endo levado a achar a comida repulsiva e a detestar na alma sua refeição preferida.

So that his desire makes him loathe food, and even dainty dishes.

21 J á não se vê sua carne, e seus ossos, que não se viam, agora aparecem.

His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out.

22 S ua alma aproxima-se da cova, e sua vida, dos mensageiros da morte.

Yes, his soul draws near to corruption, and his life to the inflicters of death (the destroyers).

23 “ Havendo, porém, um anjo ao seu lado, como mediador dentre mil, que diga ao homem o que é certo a seu respeito,

if there is for the hearer a messenger or an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him,

24 p ara ser-lhe favorável e dizer: ‘Poupa-o de descer à cova; encontrei resgate para ele’,

Then is gracious to him and says, Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found a ransom (a price of redemption, an atonement)!

25 e ntão sua carne se renova voltando a ser como de criança; ele se rejuvenece.

flesh shall be restored; it becomes fresher and more tender than a child’s; he returns to the days of his youth.

26 E le ora a Deus e recebe o seu favor; vê o rosto de Deus e dá gritos de alegria, e Deus lhe restitui a condição de justo.

He prays to God, and He is favorable to him, so that he sees His face with joy; for restores to him his righteousness (his uprightness and right standing with God—with its joys).

27 D epois ele vem aos homens e diz: ‘Pequei e torci o que era certo, mas ele não me deu o que eu merecia.

He looks upon other men or sings out to them, I have sinned and perverted that which was right, and it did not profit me, or He did not requite me!

28 E le resgatou a minha alma, impedindo-a de descer à cova, e viverei para desfrutar a luz’.

has redeemed my life from going down to the pit, and my life shall see the light!

29 “ Deus faz dessas coisas ao homem, duas ou três vezes,

Behold, God does all these things twice, yes, three times, with a man,

30 p ara recuperar sua alma da cova, a fim de que refulja sobre ele a luz da vida.

To bring back his life from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

31 “ Preste atenção, Jó, e escute-me; fique em silêncio, e falarei.

Give heed, O Job, listen to me; hold your peace, and I will speak.

32 S e você tem algo para dizer, responda-me; fale logo, pois quero que você seja absolvido.

If you have anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify you.

33 S e não tem nada para dizer, ouça-me, fique em silêncio, e eu lhe ensinarei a sabedoria”.

If not, listen to me; hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom.
