1 C omo está deserta a cidade, antes tão cheia de gente! Como se parece com uma viúva, a que antes era grandiosa entre as nações! A que era a princesa das províncias agora tornou-se uma escrava.

How solitary and lonely sits the city that was full of people! How like a widow has she become! She who was great among the nations and princess among the provinces has become a tributary!

2 C hora amargamente à noite, as lágrimas rolam por seu rosto. De todos os seus amantes nenhum a consola. Todos os seus amigos a traíram; tornaram-se seus inimigos.

She weeps bitterly in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks. Among all her lovers (allies) she has no one to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies.

3 E m aflição e sob trabalhos forçados, Judá foi levado ao exílio. Vive entre as nações sem encontrar repouso. Todos os que a perseguiram a capturaram em meio ao seu desespero.

Judah has gone into exile from the affliction and laborious servitude. She dwells among the nations, but she finds no rest; all her persecutors overtook her amid the straits.

4 O s caminhos para Sião pranteiam, porque ninguém comparece às suas festas fixas. Todas as suas portas estão desertas, seus sacerdotes gemem, suas moças se entristecem, e ela se encontra em angústia profunda.

The roads to Zion mourn, because no one comes to the solemn assembly or the appointed feasts. All her gates are desolate, her priests sigh and groan, her maidens are grieved and vexed, and she herself is in bitterness.

5 S eus adversários são os seus chefes; seus inimigos estão tranqüilos. O Senhor lhe trouxe tristeza por causa dos seus muitos pecados. Seus filhos foram levados ao exílio, prisioneiros dos adversários.

Her adversaries have become the head; her enemies prosper. For the Lord has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions; her young children have gone into captivity before the enemy.

6 T odo o esplendor fugiu da cidade de Sião. Seus líderes são como corças que não encontram pastagem; sem forças fugiram diante do perseguidor.

From the Daughter of Zion all her beauty and majesty have departed. Her princes have become like harts that find no pasture; they have fled without strength before the pursuer.

7 N os dias da sua aflição e do seu desnorteio Jerusalém se lembra de todos os tesouros que lhe pertenciam nos tempos passados. Quando o seu povo caiu nas mãos do inimigo, ninguém veio ajudá-la. Seus inimigos olharam para ela e zombaram da sua queda.

Jerusalem remembers in the days of her affliction, in the days of her wanderings and her bitterness, all the pleasant and precious things that she had from the days of old. When her people fell into and at the hands of the adversary, and there was none to help her, the enemy looked at her, and they mocked at her desolations and downfall.

8 J erusalém cometeu graves pecados; por isso tornou-se impura. Todos os que a honravam agora a desprezam, porque viram a sua nudez; ela mesma geme e se desvia deles.

Jerusalem has grievously sinned; therefore she has become an unclean thing and has been removed. All who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness; yes, she herself groans and sighs and turns away.

9 S ua impureza prende-se às suas saias; ela não esperava que chegaria o seu fim. Sua queda foi surpreendente; ninguém veio consolá-la. “Olha, Senhor, para a minha aflição, pois o inimigo triunfou.”

Her filthiness was in and on her skirts; she did not consider her final end. Therefore she has come down singularly and astonishingly; she has no comforter. O Lord, look at my affliction, for the enemy has magnified himself!

10 O adversário saqueia todos os seus tesouros; ela viu nações pagãs entrarem em seu santuário, sendo que tu as tinhas proibido de participar das tuas assembléias.

The adversary has spread out his hand upon all her precious and desirable things; for she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary — when You commanded that they should not even enter Your congregation.

11 T odo o seu povo se lamenta enquanto vai em busca de pão; e, para sobreviverem, trocam tesouros por comida. “Olha, Senhor, e considera, pois tenho sido desprezada.

All her people groan and sigh, seeking for bread; they have given their desirable and precious things for food to revive their strength and bring back life. See, O Lord, and consider how wretched and lightly esteemed, how vile and abominable, I have become!

12 V ocês não se comovem, todos vocês que passam por aqui? Olhem ao redor e vejam se há sofrimento maior do que o que me foi imposto, e que o Senhor trouxe sobre mim no dia em que se acendeu a sua ira.

Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow which was dealt out to me, with which the Lord has afflicted me in the day of His fierce anger!

13 D o alto ele fez cair fogo sobre os meus ossos. Armou uma rede para os meus pés e me derrubou de costas. Deixou-me desolada, e desfalecida o dia todo.

From above He has sent fire into my bones, and it prevailed against them. He has spread a net for my feet; He has turned me back. He has made me hopelessly miserable and faint all the day long.

14 O s meus pecados foram amarrados num jugo; suas mãos os ataram todos juntos, e os colocaram em meu pescoço; o Senhor abateu a minha força. Ele me entregou àqueles que não consigo vencer.

The yoke of my transgressions is bound by His hand; they were twined together; they were set upon my neck. He has made my strength fail and stumble; the Lord has delivered me into the hands of those I am unable to resist or withstand.

15 O Senhor dispersou todos os guerreiros que me apoiavam; convocou um exército contra mim para destruir os meus jovens. O Senhor pisou no seu lagar a virgem, a cidade de Judá.

The Lord has made of no account all my mighty men in the midst of me; He has proclaimed a set time against me to crush my young men. The Lord has trodden as in a winepress the Virgin Daughter of Judah.

16 É por isso que eu choro; as lágrimas inundam os meus olhos. Ninguém está por perto para consolar-me, não há ninguém que restaure o meu espírito. Meus filhos estão desamparados porque o inimigo prevaleceu.”

For these things I weep; my eyes overflow with tears, because a comforter, one who could refresh and restore my soul, is far from me. My children are desolate and perishing, for the enemy has prevailed.

17 S uplicante, Sião estende as mãos, mas não há quem a console. O Senhor decretou que os vizinhos de Jacó se tornem seus adversários; Jerusalém tornou-se coisa imunda entre eles.

Zion stretches forth her hands, but there is no comforter for her. The Lord has commanded concerning and against Jacob that his neighbors should be his adversaries; Jerusalem has become a filthy thing among them.

18 “ O Senhor é justo, mas eu me rebelei contra a sua ordem. Ouçam, todos os povos; olhem para o meu sofrimento. Meus jovens e minhas moças foram para o exílio.

The Lord is righteous (just and in the right); for I have rebelled against His commandment (His word). Hear, I pray you, all you peoples, and look at my sorrow and suffering; my maidens and my young men have gone into captivity.

19 C hamei os meus aliados, mas eles me traíram. Meus sacerdotes e meus líderes pereceram na cidade, enquanto procuravam comida para poderem sobreviver.

I called to my lovers, but they deceived me. My priests and my elders expired in the city while they sought food to save their lives.

20 V eja, Senhor, como estou angustiada! Estou atormentada no íntimo, e no meu coração me perturbo pois tenho sido muito rebelde. Lá fora, a espada a todos consome; dentro, impera a morte.

Behold, O Lord, how distressed I am! My vital parts (emotions) are in tumult and are deeply disturbed; my heart cannot rest and is violently agitated within me, for I have grievously rebelled. Outside the house the sword bereaves, at home there is death!

21 O s meus lamentos têm sido ouvidos, mas não há ninguém que me console. Todos os meus inimigos sabem da minha agonia; eles se alegram com o que fizeste. Quem dera trouxesses o dia que anunciaste para que eles ficassem como eu!

have heard that I sigh and groan, that I have no comforter. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that You have done it. You will bring the day that you have foretold and proclaimed; and they will become like me.

22 Q ue toda a maldade deles seja conhecida diante de ti; faze com eles o que fizeste comigo por causa de todos os meus pecados. Os meus gemidos são muitos e o meu coração desfalece.”

Let all their wickedness come before You; and deal with them as You have dealt with me because of all my transgressions; for my sighs and groans are many and my heart is faint.
